This does what R-Type final 2 does, they chose flare and stead of sticking to what made these games so good.

That video intro was on point. I was actually in doubt if i would get this game or psyvariar delta and the lack of tate mode to use my flip grip was the decision factor. Cool review.

​​@@shinbakihanma2749GameCube was pretty good Nintendo DS 3DS and Gameboy Advance GameCube had good shoot em ups Chaos Field Castle Of Shikigami 2 Ikaruga Radio Allergy Nintendo DS had some good ones too Nanostray 1 and 2 3DS didn't have many but they did have Metroid Samus Returns Gameboy Advance had pretty good ones Gradius Galaxies Iridion Iridion 3D R-Type 3 and good homebrews

I wanted to play through this a few times before I heard your opinion on it, and all of my major sticking points are the exact ones you mentioned here. Reasonably fun for a few runs but these annoyances won’t keep me coming back.

Actually ended up getting a copy of Danmaku Unlimited 3 off ebay. Super happy with it.

Like always: A good review. I realy love the style though. All that stuff around the gameplay itself, like the live plot of your score, compared to you best score and so one, is something I would LOVE to see in more games. The radar and other stuff, even though it is mostly useless, adds to that style. Also, even though the story might be bad and the voice acting is not the best I appreciate the english dub - reading stuff while playing is nearly impossible, and a story / some chat during the level adds to the "immersion" that there is a story - or a reason - to shoot down all those ships :D The online functionality (cheer system) sounds a bit strange though...but props for trying to include some kind of online "multiplayer" if you want to call it that. No tate is a shame but I can live with that.

BTW man, your Japanese appears to be pretty darn good!

Great review man! Got physical copies of Raiden V, Caladrius Blaze and Psyvariar Delta a few days ago. :) Was really surprised to see that Psyvariar had foil cover and I ordered it from Play-Asia.

@@stephanemontbrizon7303 which game or which cover? Foil obviously looks better. As for the game, I've yet to play any of them but I think I'll enjoy Caladrius the most. I like the art style (same artist as in Devil Survivor and Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth) as well as the setting. :)

I got this as part of the Raiden anniversary collection and played RV for 15 minutes. How as a developer you don’t see and fix the bullet visibility issue is beyond me. Why not change the bullet colour so it contrasts the background? As is, it feels like looking for hay-coloured needles in a haystack.

At first, i was very excited to play this game since i absolutely loved the arcades games as a kid. I love some of the new additions and all, but the more i played, the more it's flaws became more and more annoying. To me, bullet visibility is it's main flaw, because you often die to bullshit you didnt see and not from a pattern you failed to avoid or learn. This makes me sad because the issues the game have could easily be fixed in a patch, but they still remains here, sadly.

Just picked this game up yesterday actually. Pretty much 100% agree with all criticisms discussed here, especially how it pales in comparison to Caladrius in the variety and gameplay department. Raiden does feel like a very different game to many other shmups though; the movement, the patterns, the speed. So at least it's a nice change of pace.

This game is getting really EXPENSIVE right now.

Beautiful graphically definitely stays to the formula. I prefer 4 over 5.

Couldn't they have just put in some commonsense things like your highest weapon level can't be more than your lowest weapon level plus 2, and you have a button to switch weapons in any way?

I grew up on and loved Raiden in the arcades, but good god is the weapon upgrade system archaic and dated. With all the modern shmups available now, this game is hard to play imo other than to scratch the nostalgic itch, so I'd honestly rather play the originals over this modern remake.

Actually think 7/10 is flattering for this game. The story is intrusive and annoying - Raiden deserves better. The bullet colours being hard to see is unforgiveable for a game with a rich heritage. Also, the game could have been much improved with an Arcade Mode. Physically not a cheap game anymore - one to pass on imo. Raiden 4 is easy to obbtain and is leagues ahead. This is a 4/10 game in my book.

I heard this one wasn't great, but I got it for, like, $2... I want my $2 back. The main issue I had with it was bullet visibility. Like, holy shit.

Perhaps all the bells and whistles are supposed to draw casual gamers into the game. If it works and grows the genre that’s great. Aside from that what we have here is the worst Raiden I know (missed out on R3) - by a mile

You just saved me 9 bucks (it's on sale)

For me it was to late 🙁 this can only be played on a TV is you use the Switch. Luckily I got the Vasara collection for a dollar 😀

@@FuZZbaLLbee ;D. i spent about 100€ last week on shmups 🤣, for switch ps4 and pc. skyforce reloaded, esp.ra.de.psi, gunbird 2 raiden V,ghosblade HD, Mushihimesama, deathsmiles... think i got a decent starting selection now.

@@FuZZbaLLbee how could i forget that 4 buck steal danmaku unlimitded 3 xD. got no flip grip though.. cant stand the joycons etc. I got myself an mayflash f300 arcade stick and having a blast. i just lean the switch against some books or whatever and plug in directly (usb-c), or docked on my big tv (here, yokai mode is more than enough). How is sine mora EX? that demo didnt realy "click", but its 2,49 on steam atm..
