Happens only when the grrom is hindu. if a hindu girl marries a christian guy, she is forced to convert.

My husband's is from uttrakhand and I am an half Assamese of uttrakhand domicile...so i can relate to this

That's not exactly an Assamese wedding. There are many communities in Assam and we all have different tradition, language, culture, ethnicity..yet we call ourselves Assamese. This could be one of the communities...sorry I don't really know. I guess Budhism and Hinduism or maybe the bride is Catholic. Catholic Christians dress exactly like Hindus and some of their marriage customs are related to Hinduism....Atleast for Kerala Catholics
