Calafiori is an amazing prospect. He carries the ball forward so well for a defender. I can see him becoming a defensive midfielder in the future. Italy aren’t blessed with the stars that they’ve previously had. So it’s a case of doing the best with what we have available. I think Italy need to look at bringing in more pace at the fullback and winger positions for future tournaments, as this is key.

Why do people bitch and complain about their team when they win or tie and move on to the next round? I admit I'm a casual soccer fan, but to me Italy played good defense all game vs Croatia. A win is a win. This isnt boxing where judges determine who deserves to win based on how they performed.

The team got through in spite of him and not because of him. Aside, from Gigi, Bastoni, Calafiori and Barella, every player has been a shadow of themselves. The team looks disjointe, nervous and confused, lacking composure. Spalletti tinkers too much, and his persistence with the likes of Di Lorenzo is baffling. We had a good spell just after going behind, and then the coach destroyed the momentum with all the substitutions and tactical changes.

I guess you didn't watch football in the recent years? The added times in general got much longer to counter time wasting. In this specific case, the 8 minutes were added because 4 min of Var, the Penalty, Croats 2 min long goal celebration celebration, the 7 player changes that happenend extremly slowly (Modrics alone took 2 min), and the breaks caused by the 2 cramps aswell as the many yellow cards, fouls and simulations. I think 8 min was more then fair. The only criticism I can give to the referee is that he stopped the game immediately after Italy scored. Even though the goal happenend at 7:20. So he could have added 40 seconds for a last croatian attack

Spalletti is the problem! This guy couldn’t coach himself out of a wet paper bag. Imagine leaving a guy like Chiesa on the bench and starting DiMarco as a winger. Don’t even get me started on the negative tactics. It felt like they were playing for the draw from the start. Spalletti was so progressive at Napoli and here we are reverting back to boring possession with sideways or backwards passing. Frattesi shouldn’t see the pitch again. He’s useless and looks scared. They should start Zaccagni and Chiesa in a 4-3-3. Doesn’t matter who the striker is because they are all garbage.

Chiesa did you see is injured and can’t do the magic he is capable of because he’s injured bad and still managed to make some nice moves on the pitch. He’s injured do you understand now why he could not play the full game! Put yourself in the fridge and eat something.

He believes he's a lot smarter than he actually is, always swapping and changing tactics, line-ups, questionable substitutions (barring Zaccagni) .... Croatia sat back after taking the lead, and had opportunities to hold onto the ball late into stoppages, but instead gave it away foolishly.
