Karma is the “emergent impulse” , due to the sum total of ones past actions. Your karma is what it means or feels like “to be you”. And your decision making comes out of that. The practise of yoga fixes those emergent impulses , to bring you on a path to Dharma . My simplest explanation for karma , yoga and dharma :)

@Private El We Vishnu a Merry Christmas! 🙏🏻 Krishna or God is absolutely going to be met up with at the end of the material body for everyone, atheist or believer. As far a experiencing "we are not our body", it could be an unsolved challenge, unless one takes the practical approach..... the change of body EVEN IN THIS LIFETIME is pretty obvious. We had an infant body that changed to a youth body, then middle age, etc. But think deeply if we ourselves feel we are not the same person? No, in fact we can remember some of our past body pastimes, traumas, dramas, relationships, and then understand how our tiny soul has activated our body all along. It has been with us. There is no school, college or university in human society to study the soul. We try all our lives to study the material body. That's why we are do conditioned and confused about how to handle higher wisdom. It's a gradual process. Don't worry too much, if you just give it some attention you'll get the mercy. Where attention goes, energy flows. There’s an amazing book about a hypnotherapist who was originally an atheist treating people and when they were under *deep* hypnosis he would tell them to go to the source of their unexplainable pain/depression/etc. and the first time he did this a man (who had a pain in his side and after many tests the doctors told him it was psychological) immediately started describing being bayoneted in a war. The hypnotherapist who was a minor historian asked him to describe what he was wearing, etc. and realized exactly what battle it was (which was hundreds of years ago). This hypnotherapist, who again was atheist this time, didn’t know what to make of this, and tried to ignore it. Some time later with a separate client the same thing happened concerning her depression, except she started describing being with her “soul group” between lives. This hypnotherapist went on to dedicate his life to finding out more about our lives between lives, documenting thousands of separate cases (without leading questions or anything of the sort). The most incredible thing is the continuity in what all of them said. It’s absolutely incredible. For those of you who know how powerful & consistent deep hypnosis is, this is an amazing read. It’s called “Journey of Souls”

Another way of looking at it is that cells has memories. You DNA has remnants of your ancestors You culture is the cultivation of previous lives. And you are a cultivation of your culture Etc etc...

Think of it as travelling to a new continent that is your destination(Dharma). How you get there airplane, car, walking, boat is your journey (Karma).....this is oversimplified version 4.The main goal of hinduism is to escape this cycle of Rebirth-karma-dharma and become one with the Universe (Moksha). @@Max-xl7ei I will try my best to explain it simply but please remember definitions of moksha and Nirvana might change according to which school of thought you follow. That being said 1. When you attain Moksha you become one with Universe as in you become the universe itself(think of it as being omnipresent). Norse mythology has defined it as "Odinforce", an all seeing eye.Dimensions don't matter to you 2. Some people especially ones I follow say Nirvana is first step to Moksha. During Nirvana you detach yourself from the reality and break certain barriers that hold the human consciousness(Hyper Consciousness maybe). People who attain Nirvana are said to have done unnatural things according to myths e.g (Levitation, Impossible healing,Climbing mountains in less than 5 steps). Jesus Christ is said to have achieved Nirvana according to some Indian scholars suggesting by the feats he achieved and so did Buddha.Human emotions and attachments don't matter once you achieved Nirvana but you still are part of the birth-death cycle.

I do agree about the freedom of choice and acceptance of plurality within Hinduism. But what I was pointing to is that the very existence of Buddhism and Jainism (also Sikhism) came about by rejecting Vedas and the excessive focus on rituals and sacrifices that dominated Hindu world. I am reading Gita and Upanishads currently, and it has amazing and profound insights into the nature of reality and humans. Rich philosophical thoughts, indeed. And yes Buddhism and Hinduism do have parallel thoughts, but so do Platonism and many other Philosophies/sets of beliefs that have existed throughout time and space in history. It has to do with the nature of human and human thought and inquiry. It is the very core of Perennial Philosophy so it makes sense why there are similarities. Let me debunk your hypothesis with one simple argument. I make a lot of stupid mistakes and wrong decisions, both knowingly and unknowingly. Clearly I'm not doing things right and if I've lived this same life before then chances are I've not done things right before that's why I'm here again, innit? But I don't experience a deja vu whenever I do something wrong. There are some legitimate scientific theories about why we experience deja vu. Sure they have not certainly concluded that this is it but they are at least closer to reach a valid conclusion than connections with past life's memories and glitch in the matrix kind of mumbo jumbo.

@William White i under stand what you mean, in yoga the deeper we go into practice we reach a stage called ''yoga'' meaning union with nature and ultimately god. what that means is a yoga will see god in every human and even in rocks(IE we are all part of one) etc hence harming or even hurting feelings without just reasons is seen as bad karma. So, theoretically if every one only did with with proper reasons and good in their heart that would be dharma. but people are stuck in their situations to rise above these constrains we would need to sacrifice a lot we cant , at-least we all cant hence we are full of $hit. The aim of yoga is to put dharma and selflessness in people and dissolve their ego.

Vedic Sciences mention 54 dimensions of space, multiverses, time dilation etc. But that's just the science part. It's deeper than that though. Most talks online debate on whether there's determinism or karma. Vedic philosophy says it's both- not mutually exclusive. As an analogy, its like a cow tied to a pole with a rope. The cow is free to do whatever it wants till the limit if the rope, but not outside it. We live inside 2 concentric circles. An inner one where we have free will, and an outer one where our circumstances outside our control limit us - where we're born, poor/rich, country, background etc. The karma in this life decides the outer circle of circumstances in the next

If you fail you will not live the real life what u deserve ( depends ln how u lifed on this one) ... never forget it. I learned about some beliefs about Hinduism is we are - stuck in a cycle of life and death (pain and suffering) as long as we don’t awaken to our true nature. That’s why we are here now - suffering is caused by clinging and ignorance - One of the key thoughts of Hinduism is “atman,” or the belief in soul. This philosophy holds that living creatures have a soul, and they’re all part of the supreme soul. The goal is to achieve “moksha,” or salvation, which ends the cycle of rebirths to become part of the absolute soul.

Shintoism and Hinduism are very similar even most of the Shinto Gods in Japan are actually Hindu Gods with different names. I learned from my spiritual master that before monotheistic religions concept was spread all the religions which seems polytheistic had no concept of religion instead it was a way of life and you could respect and follow each other’s beliefs & all the polytheistic Gods represent something and they’re all energy form of that supreme singular energy. The way energy has a single source but can spread into multiple sources the same way there is one supreme source of energy which manifest into different energy of God. It’s probably too complex to understand for monotheistic believers but, if one uses deep rational logic then this is very true. Lots of love to Hinduism 🕉

These two making a simple luck situation into something completely complex. Some ppl can just sense luck or a great position in life and most can't. It's the right place at the right time. As stated in the begining, of this pod cast, it has to be the right place at the right time.

Then why are some people more ‘lucky’ than others? How would you explain that?

Breaking it down - Karma is what has happened to you, emotions, thoughts, actions throughout your life which shaped your life as it is today and which will shape your life (think about why are you how you are). Samskaras are these points in life like major emotions/points that you remember (like someone bullying you at school or something happened to you or some desired in your life that changed you or that registered in your head which in a way shaped your KARMA. Hinduism and other religion based on these theories talk about reincarnation which is basically you taking birth again to take care of you samskaras. So all the yogis and Sadhus want to get rid of these samskaras or to attain nirvana so they are free of this birth-death cycle.

Why can't reincarnation be just the way life is, why do people assume the soul returns from somewhere to finish some deed or learn something, so what about the animals and insects are they reincarnating? Why is there some reason, why can't it be like planting a tree, once the conditions are right it happens full stop no complicated reason , just two entities of the opp sex having sex and boom it happens a new life is born , go out plant a tree watch it grow and die and plant another if you live long enough ,it's simple if you don't plant that tree it doesn't exist.

No Joe, discipline and persistence doesn't always work. Talk to Rwandans, people with bad birth defects, and anyone who was run over by a car. It is necessary, but not sufficient. Not only that, but one day the ride is over. And we do not have a window to the other side. It takes faith.

Seriously, how do you justify hard work to someone dealt thr worst hand? A starving child in Africa who isnt going to make it past 4, they just needed to work harder?

Thanks to commenters for understanding. :-) Often when I come up against this, the folks I am pointing this out to seem to think I am saying people should be lazy., or that we should just hand out free money to people.. both prospects I am against. What part of "Necessary but not Sufficient" is unclear to those people? Yes, we have to work hard. But hard work is NOT ENOUGH to have supreme success. You have to also have time, place and circumstance on your side. The key is to see what time, place and circumstance you are in, correctly identify opportunity, and then work hard. But some... some are in such depravity, or have such debilitating illness, that no amount of this will help them. And it is for those people I am speaking. Because I am incredibly lucky to have been born in the US, to a working class family, basically healthy, and to never have experienced famine, or genocide, or real brutality in my lifetime.

Pretty sure the sentiment is geared towards the average person living in American society that Joe's lived his life in... I think what limits the average person is fearing wasted effort, devoting so much hard work and time towards something that ultimately is fruitless, as that tends to happen more often than success for a lot of people. If we can see beyond our ourselves and our current position in life, often times the journey, the hard work in itself is the point, and our view of what success is should be viewed as a life well lived rather than an endpoint of having accumulated vast amounts of wealth.

Karma is like chaos theory, your actions are craved on to the universe and impact everyone….also you can view Karma as the exact situation you are in at this very moment. Dharma is cosmic law and order.
