Lyrics:
[Intro]
Feel the funk blast
Feel the funk blast
Feel the funk blast
Feel the funk blast
Feel the funk blast
Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, check it out, yo, yo, yo
[Verse 1]
I be walkin' God like a dog, my narrative, fearless
My word war returns to burn like Baldwin home from Paris
Like Steel from a furnace, I was born landless
This is the native son, born of Zapata's guns
Stroll through the shanties and the cities' remains
Same bodies buried hungry but with different last names
These vultures rob everything, leave nothing but chains
Pick a point on the globe, yes, the picture's the same
There's a bank, there's a church, a myth and a hearse
A mall and a loan, a child dead at birth
There's a widow pig parrot, a rebel to tame
A white-hooded judge, a syringe and a vein
And the riot be the rhyme of the unheard
[Pre-Chorus]
What you say, what you say, what you say, what?
What you say, what you say, what you say, what?
What you say, what you say, what you say, what?
What you say, what you say, what you say, what?
[Chorus]
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
[Verse 2]
This ain't subliminal, feel the critical mass approach horizon
The pulse of the condemned, sound off America's demise
The anti-myth rhythm rock shocker, yes, I spit fire
Hope lies in the smoldering rubble of empires
Yes, back through the shanties and the cities' remains
Same bodies buried hungry (Uh-huh), but with different last names (Uh-huh)
Them vultures robbin' everyone, leave nothing but chains
Pick a point here at home, yes, the picture's the same
There's a field full of slaves, some corn and some debt
There's a ditch full of bodies, the check for the rent
There's a tap, the phone, the silence of stone
The numb black screen that be feelin' like home
And the riot be the rhyme of the unheard
[Pre-Chorus]
What you say, what you say, what you say, what?
What you say, what you say, what you say, what?
What you say, what you say, what you say, what?
What you say, what you say, what you say, what?
[Chorus]
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
[Guitar solo]
[Chorus]
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
I'm calm like a bomb
(Ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite, ignite)
[Outro]
There's a mass without roofs, there's a prison to fill
There's a country's soul that reads post no bills
There's a strike and a line of cops outside of the mill
There's a right to obey and there's a right to kill
There's a mass without roofs, there's a prison to fill
There's a country's soul that reads post no bills
There's a strike and a line of cops outside of the mill
'Cause there's a right to obey and there's the right to kill

Probably my favorite part of the album. The tone is so wonderfully throbby, it complements the playing style perfectly. And at this point in his career he had perfected his homemade distortion / multi-amp / multi-wah setup, and it’s so so good on this tune in particular. I flipped when I first heard it.

I'm curious how many people in the audience actually knew what RATM was actually saying? I know when I was 16 in 1993 and saw them at Lollapalooza, I didn't really understand. But now, at 43, I'm very aware and more supportive than ever of their messages. It makes me kinda sad that some of those kids grew up to hate, and to actively be against what RATM stood for. I know a few of them. Sorry, random comment but it's been on my mind. Thanks!

I just think we need him to give us a voice. God knows if we try to speak up or talk about the injustices going on these days, we have to worry about being shot, locked up, or harassed. For some of us, to even admit that you are of Mexican decent is dangerous here in the states. A female of Mexican decent can get yourself beaten and raped. Serious business thanks to the hate of some politicians. It’s a war out there against brown skinned girls. Very ugly.🥺😞🙈Yikes.

Blown....the weight of the message, it’s relevance to the injustices at that time, along with it’s intention of exposure, that song became the broadcast for many of us! I’m just Blown that this message is now prophetic. I’m stunned that it’s message 21 years later is more relevant than ever. 21 years later.... You could write this song for the first time today. Wouldn’t have missed a single breath.

I remember hearing them for the first time when i was like 13, at my cousins birthday party back in Orlando FL in like 92...i was from a small country town and had never experienced music like this...needless to say, everything changed after that
Seeing this link instantly reminded me that I hadn't heard this in a long time, and this live version is perfect. Now, they need to reunite, and drop an album. Or at least a Trump track.
Perfect band and perfect song.

Raging against every machine except the giant corporation that they signed with. And Tom Morello going all Hollywood on a small business coffee shop in Seattle and then getting absolutely schooled by the owner is hilarious. All that being said, most underrated rhythm section. Love the music, but cant take them seriously when it costs $150 or more for for a lawn seat to see them in concert. Viacom against the machine!
