  • @Mark-ut5oq

@@VashTheStampede4K Yea, and he also beat Djokovic in US open 2012. Must be noted that the US open 2012 was very windy, and Novak is notoriously poor in the wind. And in Wimbledon 2013, Novak had just come off a marathon match against Del Potro that deprived him of all energy. In other words, the slam H2H could easily be 10-0 in favor of Djoker, instead of 8-2. By no means am I detracting from Murray’s greatness or “excusing” these Djokovic losses, in fact they were well deserved for Andy. I’m just alluding to the fact that he was better than everyone else, yet still SO far behind the big 3. Quite incredible really that such a gap exists between them.

@@Mark-ut5oq Having said what you said, and to then say that you are not detracting - simply is contradictory. Not clear what you are going for here, yes Murray won those matches but xyz happened so it was not really that great? All those circumstances you pointed out are just part of the sport. There could be numerous times that Novak/Fed/Nadal benefitted the same way. Also, mentioning wind as a mitigating factor in an outdoor sport such as tennis is implausible.

  • @Mark-ut5oq

@@robertingersoll3039 Novak cannot cope with wind well, unlike Nadal who is the best player of all time in windy conditions. Murray deserved to win both of those matches, of course. I’m simply stating that it’s plausible that Novak could have beat Murray in all 10 of their major meetings. Murray only occasionally troubled Djokovic outside of those two grand slam victories for Murray. The AO 2012 and FO 2015 were the only two where Murray stood up to Novak. Even in the French open 2015, Novak was mostly in control despite it going 5. The other 6 matches were pretty much beatdowns in favor of Novak. It’s astounding that despite Murray being a great player, he is THAT far below the big 3.

Stan Wawrinka is probably the most mystifying outside the big 3. In 2014 AO he had to overcome Novak in 5 sets on his favorite surface during the quarters, Number 7 ranked Berdych in the Semi's, and Rafa Nadal in the final. It was for me the ultimate underdog tale.

Novak should've won French open in 2015. He was really lucky that Rafa withdrew from Roland Garros mid-way before the 3rd round. Rafa was playing really high quality after a poor 2015 and AO 2016. He won Monte Carlo and Barcelona, made semis at Caja majica and Foro italico. His match against Novak at Rome open was really frustrating to watch where squandered too many opportunities. You never know but if they had faced each other at Roland Garros again in 2016,Rafa would've given Novak a run for his money. Murray always played great at Madrid, just like Sascha zverev does. He also beat Rafa here in 2015 final. 2016 was an year to remember for Murray

Honestly Nadal was like 60% of his usual best in 2016 (better than his previous 2015 season, but still), but Murray was playing exceptionally well in 2016. He was already playing well in 2015, but in 2016 he went the extra mile by reaching his first (and last) RG final only to lose to Novak (who completed Novak slam and career grand slam), winning another Wimbledon title (after 2013) and another olympic gold medal in singles (after 2012), winning the WTF for the first time, and ending the season as world no.1 for the first time. I think Murray's best performance of his career was in 2012, but 2016 is by far his best season in terms of records.
