I think year wise 2010 for sure - he won 3/4 of the GSs but specifically for USO i'd say 2013 beats 2010 - makes it even more special that you can argue that 2013 was with prime Djoko (ie post 2011) whereas 2010 was with up and coming Djoko (ie. pre 2011), so the 2013 USO is a sweeter victory.

Nadal was overrated in 2013. He lost to Horacio Zeballos in a clay final, sucked on grass(lost in Wimby round 1 to Darcis), should have lost to Djokovic in RG and USO(got lucky with the net touch call and Nole's choke in USO set 3). Nadal also sucked in the fall of that year---got spanked by Djokovic twice, crushed by Del Potro and David Ferrer. 2013 Nadal had a better overall hardcourt season, but 2010 USO Nadal was perhaps the best Nadal we have ever seen on hardcourts. He was more explosive, had better movement, better serve and his strokes had more bite to them. 2013 USO Nadal dropped a set to Kohlscreiber and arguably should have lost to a subpar Djokovic in the finals. 2010 Nadal won 3 out of 4 slams and swept the entire claycourt season. 2013 Nadal lost in the Monte Carlo final to Nole and nearly lost again to the Serb in the FO semi. He was pretty shaky at the French Open that year. He didn't do jack at the AO either. 2010 Nadal> 2013 Nadal.

In 2015, Djokovic won 3 slams, several masters, won the WTF and statistically had the most ATP points accumulated in the history of the sport. Granted the 2011 season was pretty darn impressive in its own right because of Nadal, Federer and Murray playing at a high level. It comes a close second. 2021 is impressive with the 3 slams and 4 finals, but outside of that, Novak didn't accomplish too much in the tennis season. 2015- mid 2016 Djokovic>2011 Djokovic> Mid 2018 - Mid 2019 Djokovic> 2021 Djokovic>>> then the rest. For Nadal, 2010 Nadal> 2013 Nadal> 2008 Nadal>>> then the rest. Fun fact, 2013 Nadal and 2013 Djokovic went 3-3 vs each other actually. For Federer, you are missing the 2017 season. He won 2 slams, 3 masters and went 4-0 against Nadal that year. It was surely one of his greatest years as well.

The only thing that speaks for 2010 Ist the 3 slams in a row and Wimbledon weighs like 5 other tournaments ( I got you here) 2008 was better than 2010 because all 4 slams semi final Winning 2 the best match ever in Wimbledon against a prime Federer, and playing his best French open arguably. Plus the 32 winning streak on 3 surfaces is the longest in history. So for me I would like to say 2013 because of the nole winnings and the masters (5) plus 2 slams But the Wimbledon first round exit is really really hard to accept. 2008 Than 2013 than 2010. 2017 is not because of the 4 losses against Roger and 2019 because he got f.. 2008: Roland Garros vs Federer (the easiest GS Final ever 6-1 6-3 6-0 I believe) then Wimbledon vs Federer (Greatest Tennis Final ever), he became #1 in the world for the first time and also won Beijing Olympics 2010: Roland Garros (won it easily vs Soderling), won Wimbledon vs Berdych easily as well, recovered #1 and won US Open for the first time 2013: Roland Garros, 91 victories and 10 titles, he also recovered #1 again, and won US Open. Only 2 GS (in comparison with 2008 and 2010) however, I would add that Rafa had Novak and Murray on his top that year, just almost impossible to beat them Really tough, I think 2008 was his best year in terms of history but because of “First time” breaking records. Then, in 2010 he was just phenomenal, but Federer had a terrible level that year so he didn’t have a proper rival. But in 2013 I believe was one of the best Nadal in terms of level on the court, he was just unplayable. I would go for 2010, although I would have loved to see other rivals in better shape that year. It was a shame that Federer wasn’t at his best and Nole hadn’t made his breakthrough Btw, Nadal 2011 should be in there, but I understand that is not since he lost all 5 finals vs Djokovic that year. Rafa could beat anyone but Nole

Comparing these three seasons is really tough as these are unique in their ermm.. unique ways. Here's the thing. In each of those years, there's something different about Rafa that sets it apart from the other two. Let's have a total analysis of all three years. In 2008, he won the most matches in a season of his entire career 82-11(88%) with three masters, 2 GS ( RG just conceding 41 games, Wimbledon beating Prime Fed at his own den), an Olympic gold, a record 32 match winning streak across all surfaces and finishing the year no1 @ 22 years age. Awesome footspeed n retrieving skills, monster forehand and undaunted mental and physical strength were his plus points. Underdeveloped serve and not_so_much_a_weapon backhand held him back from conquering big on HC. In 2010, he had win-loss stat of 71-10 (87%) with 7 overall titles. The apparent mediocrity is lifted when we see the 3 GS wins across all surfaces along with achieving clay Slam, Channel Slam for the 2nd time, completing career GS @24 year age (youngest ever). Won RG without losing a set, won UsO just losing one set in the whole tournament. Amazing footspeed, anticipation, much improved BH with still his trademark fearhand and bombarding serves at important tournaments made him year end no 1 and a man to beat across all surfaces. Also he hit his non clay zenith at UsO '10. In 2013, he made the greatest ever come back season with a W/L record of 75-7 (91%) with 10 titles. Won RG by beating a red-hot Djokovic in an all time classic match, won UsO by beating Prime Djokovic on HC and 5 masters titles (3 HC, 2 Clay), had 27 match winning streak on HC, achieved summer Slam which is a rare feat and dominated the entire field almost whole year to finish as no 1. He notably played very aggressive from the baseline and unloaded FHDTL aka his best shot at will that year, BH was also pretty solid, movement a bit slower than 2008 or 2010 but still very good, serve also a bit degraded but reliable when needed. Overall this was his best year in terms of technicalities n shot selection. Another very important stat : 2013 year end points : 13030 2010 year end points : 12450 2008 year end points : 12060 Now, decide for yourselves. My money would be on 2013 as it was the overall best imo.

Nice analysis, but I will have to disagree. While Nadal had won more tournaments and accumulated more points in 2013, he only won 2 slams compared to 3 in 2010. The Spaniard lost to Djokovic in Monte Carlo and while he won RG, he was very shaky in some of the earlier rounds and easily could have lost to Brands. Several of Rafas tournament wins were 250 clay tournaments and he even lost one final to Horacio Zeballos. Moreover, the Spaniard lost in the first round at Wimbledon to a journeyman named Darcis and did nothing at the AO. No way can you call a season where you lose in a first round at a slam and do not play another better than 2008 and 2010, where he performed great at all 4 slams. Furthermore, let's not forget the fall where Nadal petered out, losing meekly to Djokovic twice, Ferrer and Del Potro. 2008 and 2010>> 2013.

He had come off a HUGE leg/knee injury in 2012 (and most tennis analysts “experts” and Rafa hating fans swore his career was OVER), and he comes back to win 10 titles, 2 Slams, play superbly on hard and clay (AGAIN), and be World #1. Winning the Olympic Gold medal, demolishing Federer in FO (6-3, 6-1, 6-0), dethroning the Federer Wimbledon winning streak at his prime, providing the best finals match in tennis history, winning a grand slam outside the FO for the very first time, and also dethroning Federer's continuous 237 weeks run at No.1 in rankings. He totally got into the head of Federer that year, which paved the way for his first and only AO in 2009, winning Fed in the finals again.

In 2019, that was Djokovics number 1 to lose and he gave it away with some confusing losses that year---twice to Bautista Agut and other players because conflicts outside were impacting his play on the court. The USO 19 injury gave Nadal a free pass as well. 2010 was rightfully deserved.

Only man to win 3 slams in a year on different surfaces. Only man to have 2+ slams on each surface. He missed around 10 slams due to injuries. When you wrap all that up.... Rafa is the GOAT.

@AM No, no, I'm not hating on the other 2. I'm just a Rafa fan saying that he is the GOAT, nothing wrong there. The other 2 have a case for it of course, but I'm posting this so all the Roger and Novak fans who keep trying to dismiss Rafa from the conversation are wrong, there is more to it then Slams and weeks at number 1. But everyone plays to their strengths. I respect the other 2 and I watch all of their matches because it's like watching art at work. They are legends as well, and I actually met Novak and he's a really genuine and nice person. Don't get me wrong. Not a hater by any means just a super Nadal fan 👌

2013 as he had harder competition. Although winning more in 2010 he had soderling in FO final. Berdych in Wimbledon and non peak Djokovic at us open. 2013 at slams and other events he beat everyone. I’d even rank 2008 over 2010 as he had tougher rivals

We think 2008 and 2013 are equally strong. However, in terms of "strong on all surfaces," I consider 2010 to be the strongest. He was one of the strongest players on hard courts back then. With his fast serve and aggressive play back then, he could beat any opponent on any court. It was also the closest year to an ATP Finals title.

Even though Nadal won 3 slams in 2010 he didn’t play that great in the masters 1000 tournaments outside of clay.. didn’t make a single final whereas in 2013 he won 3 masters 1000 tournaments on hardcourts and 2 on clay. Both years he reached the WTF final. It’s a toss up between those 2 years only because of his 1st round exit at Wimbledon in 2013 otherwise he had a better year than in 2010. The argument for 2010 is the Wimbledon title and the serve which only appeared at the US OPEN. As for 2008 I’d put it 3rd because obviously his game wasn’t as developed back then

Tough one, better aggression and Grand slam results 2010 all round. however I reckon his backhand and movement was slightly better in 2008, and his iconic win over Roger at wimbledon Is hard to pass. 2010 by a whisker, Prefer to watch the 2008 matches though.

No offense, if you think you can play exactly like Nadal, you don't understand. Granted I've never seen peak Nadal or him at all in person. People may be able to play in a style that Resembles Nadal... but Nobody but Rafa can be that much of a wall, turning absolute on the run defense into vicious attack, heavy push back topspin, tireless athleticism. Peak Djokovic seems the only one that in his peak can reach/ surpass that level, but of course never had the same tools/ invincibility factor on clay (& always appeared to be a battle, with the result in limbo. Claydal was an unstoppable force). All of the big 3 are goat's at something, but to me if I had to wager heavily & got to pick a surface & a peak player, not a doubt you have to go with peak Nadal on clay. Soderling match was an outlier, sure he got beaten fair & square. Just a bad day/ year for Nadal, as all the other tournament showings in his peak at roland garros show

I agree with the other years, but not 2013. 2010 Nadal> 2013 Nadal.

@kal Ke "He won everything" - Lost to Horacio Zeballos in a clay final - Lost to Djokovic in Monte Carlo - Lost to Darcis in the first round of Wimbledon(lol) - Lost to Del Potro in Shanghai - Lost to Ferrer in Paris - Lost to Djokovic in the World Tour Finals - Did nothing at the Australian Open - Almost lost to Brands at the French Open Was it a very good year? Sure. Was it an all-time great year? Definitely not. He did nothing at the AO and Wimbledon. Compare it to Djokovics 2011, 2015 and Federers 2006-2007. It does not compare to those all-time great years.

2017 should not be overlooked. He was in great shape, won the French without dropping a set, the US for the loss of just two sets, and should've won the Aussie Open (break up in the fifth), and was unlucky to get a dodgy line-call that probably cost him the match in the Wimbledon 4th round against Muller (he'd have faced Cilc in the QF and Querrey in the semi).

2010 Nadal: Roddick-like serve, upgraded forehand, better volleying, overall high confidence, and fresh legs. The start of 2010 was kind of rough, but he got better and better throughout the year. . 2013 Nadal was beast, but the overall results don't compare to his 2010. 2008 Nadal was just a savage.
