RAF Spitfires salute forces' sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn

Two RAF Spitfire aircraft have flown over Dame Vera Lynn's village of Ditchling at midday ahead of her funeral.
Author Clare Mulley paid tribute to a 'resilient servicewoman' in Dame Vera, commenting on her travel from gig to gig to boost morale among British troops.
She told Sky News the singer made a 'huge impact' on soldiers' spirits when she met and performed for them near the frontline.

The Supermarine Spitfire was a fantastic fighter plane, fast and maneuverable. However, the design and the materials they were constructed from made them very easy to take down once a Luftwaffe pilot could get them in their sights. Now the Hawker Hurricane was less maneuverable, but a much tougher bird.

Greetings from Canada. Interesting that one of the Spitfires featured the invasion stripes. Dame Vera Lynn was with the people of Britain and the Commonwealth through the entire war, not only the Battle of Britain. It is important to remember and be thankful for the Commonwealth since the US only joined the fighting at the end of 1941. Until that time the US was mainly an equipment supplier making money for its industries. Not saying that the US did not make great sacrifices when they finally entered the war in 1942. Churchill appeared thankful for US participation while taking for granted Commonwealth sacrifice.

In a fitting tribute, Dame Vera's body was thrown 'over the white cliffs of Dover', landing next to the sewage outlet pipe where it was united with a huge flotilla of ocean bound turds. Together, they floated out over the horizon, to a chorus of 'we'll meet again', as the sun set forever on the British Empire.

It's a amazing how Adolf, at the moment of victory (apparently) decided to bugger off, attack Russia and commit himself to a war on several fronts. "All" he had to do was stroll into Britain. A draw, my arse! He failed, big time. Realised he couldn't beat the RAF, couldn't beat the RN, but he had a bigger, better run army. The only way was east, once he realised he'd never invade the UK. (He cocked that up as well).
