A great interview with a great pilot. I am sure Nick won't remember me, but I had the very great pleasure of playing him at snooker many times in the Officers Mess at Thumrait, Oman in '81/82, when I spent time out there as a young engineer. I have to say he was a better pilot than snooker player, and it still gives me great pleasure 30 odd years later, to look through my photos of Nick's regular flights across the pan, literally at head height, wheels up and allegedly, stick forward, to push the Jaguar down into the ground effect. Great to hear from you Nick, you are looking good! Rick Eggleston

I appreciate the comment so thank you. He is a really funny bloke and a nice chap which I have had the pleasure to have spent some time with. I will pass on the message to him Rick which I'm sure he will appreciate.
Found on an ejection history site: *"I believe Nick Ireland also ejected from a Jaguar in Oman. Worth checking out. Been flying with Nick Ireland - another lunatic. Magic! Would fly with him again tomorrow. Once, at 90ft and 550 knots, he asked me if I wanted to take control. "What? This low?" I said. "This isn't low", he replied "I'll show you low" - and promptly descended to 25ft."*

Nick flew with 8 Squadron Thumrait, Strapped him in on many occasions.
Seems a great character very entertaining chat...and obiously had a great career flying some fantastic aircraft.
Nick Ireland is a top man: I flew with him at Woodvale 23 years ago - and he hasn't changed a bit: amazing.

Lovely bloke!
Nice old fella. Great interview as always, Good catch. A well cooked calves liver with onions and the trimmings.... Shit.. Somebody take this nice fella for a 28 day aged Ribeye with ‘the trimmings’ and change his mind.

I’ll stick with calves liver and add bacon.
Lovely man,RIP
I would love to hear a Frenchy talk about the various Dassault platforms, especially the Mirage F1. Even better, a Brit who flew Dassaults.
