Roots always seem to get in the way of digging, whether you expect them or not. Once you switch to the Root Slayer you might not even notice them most of the time. The Root Slayer is really a multi-purpose shovel that can eliminate the need for other tools, such as hatchets, pry-bars, and saws, when simply digging around the home. If you’ve ever hit roots while trying to plant a perennial, or been stymied by roots when trying to dig up a shrub, or tried to divide hostas with a spade only to have them slide away from your shovel, you’ll know what we’re talking about. You can use the Root Slayer as your go-to shovel. You can also use it to replace your nursery spade. Think of it as a shovel, root hatchet, and root saw all in one tool.

Great video! I bought the Root Slayer a month ago and like you, I tried to break it. I figured if I did break it, I'd get another and be careful or get my money back. I just couldn't do it. I tried burying it and pulling back. It just pulled up a huge plug of ground!!! I'm a commercial landscaper and this is the best small shovel I've ever used period. I was leary of the package deal, so I just bought the Root Slayer. Now I want the Nomad! I bought their digging fork for less aggressive digging and it too cannot be broken. So glad I found Radius. Holes get dug faster and better than with an 8" auger and engine drill combo!

That’s kinda funny, Charlie. I do a lot of gardening at my Mom’s, including some brush cutting and root digging. She bought a Root Slayer for me to use last year! It certainly does the job, and she asked if I’d like to take it detecting, but it is pretty heavy to carry around all day. I might have to check out the Root Slayer Nomad, though! Thanks!!

Been using one for a year - don't think you can break it. I have levered out 100 pound rocks, pulled apart buried chimney stacks. Sharpen the end with an axe file, the teeth with a triangular file. I have cut through inch plus diameter roots with one blow. Great shovel but wicked heavy to drag around if you have to walk far.

@@Stealthdiggers I agree too! The entire state of New England needs it's own particular type of granite busting, root cutting shovel. Those clay sand diggers in the deep south have no idea what real shovel work is like. ;-)

I have been looking at a similar shovel on Amazon, it's tough to stomach $70 bucks for a Lesche , metal detecting shovel. I've been looking at comparable dual use shovels and this might help me make up my mind. thanks.

Only thing wrong with the larger shovel is there's no stogie holder. Maybe you could think of some kind of indaption contraption to hold it?

FWIW I bought one (June 2020) and the blade cracked after about 20 minutes of (rigorous but not ridiculous) use. Maybe I got a defective unit. I'll try again with a replacement. They have a Lifetime Warranty after all.

I always wondered why the crew never carried a pair of heavy-duty pruning shears or a lopper to deal with all those roots. With that shovel there's no need.

Quite lame. I was going to buy one of these. Glad I saw this first. It seems to do what any decent shovel does. How about showing us the actual slaying of roots dude?

I'm totally confused. First he says, "I took the NOMAD, weighing in at just about 2 pounds." Then he pulls out the second shovel and says, "I'm taking this big bad boy, which is the NOMAD Root Slayer, it's heavy, it's about 5 pounds." So... I went to the Radius Garden site and found the Root Slayer NOMAD weighing 2lbs 7 ozs. But because he named both of his shovels NOMAD, I don't know the name of his second shovel? It can't be the NOMAD Root Slayer because that's the 2 pounder. There's no NOMAD weighing in at 5 pounds on the Radius website that I can locate. (Maybe my eyesight is getting worse?) I am soooo confused! 🤔🤔🤔😶😑
