Radish Time-Lapse - 68 days | Soil cross section
Ойын-сауық
Radish time lapse with soil cross section. Showing development of radish from germination to flowering. Both - roots and upper parts of plant are shown.
This one didn't went according to plant. Initial plant was to make time lapse of a month or month and a half at most, but one of radishes started to bolt, which changed plan for time and composition. I didn't knew how tall it will get, so final result was a bit of a mess to work with.
It isn't very clear from the video, but the tallest one pushed over the other two while tipping over. If you noticed radishes turning at around 39 and 42 second marks, that is me turning them. I was afraid they might press to hard on glass and wither.
Part of flowering bit didn't make it to the final video. I might make bonus clips for that. So yes, full time lapse is longer than 68 days. In the end, plant was about one meter tall (~3,3 ft).
This was third attempt. First time one radish grew fine with roots along the glass, but roots of other two stopped developing after about four days. During second attempt one of the radishes failed to remove seed coat.
After about 80 days taste of radish bulb was very „sharp“ (much stronger than it is usually) and a bit unpleasant, but that is expected, since it was overgrown.

Wants to produce more I guess, but, if they have the same genes, then we’ll just get more flowers than radishes!

A radish will bolt (go to flower) depending on the temperature of its environment. All plants have a genetic code like us that may have vulnerabilities to various conditions. I assume that radish had a lower tolerance to heat and that this test was done under lights and the environment may have been in the 70+ - 80 F degree environment.
It's interesting to see that the radishes reacted to light which came from the left side. More light means shorter plants and bigger roots. The one on the right probably needed more light so it drooped then decided to flower instead.

Anything for the survival of the species Plants can flower early under pressure I think it's called bolting
@yamanmustafa
4 жыл бұрын
@@haharmageddontv6581 I was going to say the exact same thing. It did indeed bolt because it didn't get enough sunlight. It grew tall to try and reach the sun, taking energy away from the bulb/root.
Legend says the plant is still growing

Don’t radishes usually grow so that the round red part remains underground?

No when people plant them it's recommended not yo plant so deep that the bulb is completely underground

I think it is because to capture a better timelapse of roots, he planted it in between 2 thin transparent glass so there might not enough space underground for it to grow properly.

No, the 'radish root' is in fact a swollen stem appendage, this is why radishes don't fork when a taproot is broken from transplanting like other true 'root crops'.

Beautiful! Pumpkin next? 🌱🎃

More than 2 months!!! I wonder how much effort has been given on making this spectacular video
This is confusing to me since radishes are fast growing. I found one once that was 35 days to harvest and that was the longest I have ever seen most that I grow are 28 day

Oh, sweet radish🙏 It's my favorite ingridient for all my light summer salads! Just imagine this jusy/fresh recipe: cucumbers/tomatoes/purple onion/Italian parsley/dill/radish + salt pepper and virgin sunflower oil - voi la!
Seriously I love your time lapse videos. I'd love to see some more germination videos of many different plant and vegetable species.
