Phenomenal interview. I'm starting radiology residency next year and have been thinking a lot about my future career. One major decision is private practice (where volume is king) versus academic. Hearing him talk about the importance of taking your time is now pushing me toward academic.

Would be great if you interviewed some of the younger radiologists. Oldies always have the inferiority complex to other clinical specialities, cause radiology was not as important during their learning years. Radiology now is very different and requires you to know MORE than your other referring departments.

By extension, isn't clinical decision making even easier than imaging diagnosis, will computers take over clinical decision making? you'd only need the skill of surgeons to carry out surgeries that the algorithm deems fit and for maybe a new branch to emerge and take up all procedures that the computer suggests? medicine would go extinct. interventional radiology would survive. and by further extension, only departments actively doing physical work on patients would survive it. if you disagree cause you think clinical decision making is more difficult, think about patterns in blood tests vs imaging patterns for AI? which do you think is easier? if an AI can be trained for imaging diagnosis(which btw does require clinical knowledge to a great degree), you can bet your ass it can be trained for doing most other doctor's jobs. Can you imagine if we add robots to this? I doubt anyone would even have a job.
