This tutorial is the first of a new series of tutorials catered towards beginner students who have never played the piano before or are just starting out. In this lesson, we'll start with the introduction of the track covering the following sections:
0:00 - Example of what you'll be learning
1:13 - Introduction
2:13 - Basic concepts
6:25 - 3:2 polyrhythm
8:49 - Left hand shape
10:43 - Shapes in both hands
18:17 - Combining shapes with polyrhythm
25:30 - Sustain pedal
27:24 - Example of the intro again
If you're interested in learning some theory, I recommend checking out musictheory.net (in particular their Exercises section), which I've been using for over a decade and still use to this day.
This is the exercise I recommend in the tutorial to help you learn the white keys if you’re unfamiliar with them: www.musictheory.net/exercises... I’d suggest learning the keys by rote and avoid counting up from a reference note every time. This is a common mistake.
Finished your homework? Part 2 awaits you: • Radiohead - Daydreamin...

Please, please, please make a tutorial of Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. It is one of my favourite songs and it is quite a good one! Love your covers.

I actually found the synesthesia tutorial to be incredibly helpful! It was the first piece I learned on piano, so I'd say I can doubly vouch for the synesthesia tutorial as it made it as easy as possible for a beginner. Hope you find it helpful :)
Great!! Can you make a tutorial of "EVERYTHING IN ITS RIGHT PLACE" please? Thank you!

Yes, we need this! :) Thank you... and of course I want Videotape (the solo basement version)... and without the syncopation ;)
I like piano a lot but don't know how to read music nor have a piano or ever played one. This is by far one the best ways I've ever seen to teach in my life and I know this is about piano but the way you explained it so comprehensive and simple with no BS is incredible. Thank you!

Never played the piano nor any other musical instrument. My wrists and back of hands are aching, but determined to continue and play this tune. Thanks for the tutorial.
❤️❤️❤️
Yes please I needed this!
Someone seems to have a lot of time in their hands! (lucky us!). I guess it's hard to teach students at a physical music school with the whole corona thing going on. I hope everything is going well for you. Your videos actually encouraged me to buy a digital piano and I bought your songbook as well, but it's really hard to play a standard size piano with such tiny dinosaur hands like mine :( I will never stop trying though!

RHAddict Yeah, we moved all of our lessons online really early, way ahead of the government’s recommendations. Ended up saving the business, which was very fortunate. I had a one-way ticket to Berlin booked for this week to play some shows in Europe this year, but that’s clearly not happening. As a result, I’ve had more time on my hands to hit the channel harder and work on some more original content. Silver lining I guess..
Thanks so much Josh! I play by ear lots of bad habit and quirks, I started actual piano lessons two months ago and you taught me more useful stuff in just half an hour. I adore your covers. Much appreciated mate 👏

I just got my first piano today, and after about two hours i got all this locked down ! I cant wait for the rest, thanks for those very clear explanations ! If i wasnt 7000miles away from you (and there wasnt an ongoing global pandemic) I'd join your classes ! The little advice about the genral form of the fingers and advice about "finding" chords is something i havent seen said that simply, yet it seems essential and made me understand the principle in a few hours, and will be on my mind as i progress, thanks for thinking about complete noobs that are self-teaching ! i'll be sure to buy your book once i level up (and dust up my very ancient music reading abilities)
