Joe Jackson is almost a one-man category to himself. I dare you to nail him down with a style, he has done it all. One of my favorite JJ albums is Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive which is covers of 1940 jump blues. Jump blues was a zoot-suit-jitterbug-big band major pre-cursor to rock and roll. Fun stuff and a blast to listen to!

I'm a huge Elvis Costello fan, from his early days to today. He is so prolific and varied it would take you months to cover it all. OMG So many gems. Thanks JK and Nick 🎵😎👍🍁
Video Killed the Radio Star was the first video on MTV when MTV was playing videos at it's onset.
The Buggles were arguably three-hit wonders as Living In The Plastic Age and Clean, Clean also did well in the charts. The former is their best track in my opinion.
This Joe Jackson song is track 1 on his '79 album I'm The Man. Check out I'm The Man and Look Sharp! both of which are still in his Pop/Punk phase. Super fun stuff and I know you guys love bass, in both albums the bass is pretty much the lead instrument. And good call, Joe Jackson, like many Brit performers of the time has a lot of Ska peppered through their work. I LOVE it!
Trever Horn and Geoff Downs stepped in for The Yes album Drama. It was a great new sound for the band and has actually become one of my favorite Yes albums. You should listen to the full album. Yes, Drama

Great choices! I may have added Rock N Roll Radio by The Ramones!
Thanks, Nick! And to all the listeners who suggested other songs! As you can tell, all these songs were about radio and its influence, for good or bad. It certainly did influence my musical taste growing up. I did almost put Joni Mitchell in there, but I went with The Buggles for the fun of it. Speaking of which, I’m glad that you and Alexia both love Shiny Happy People! There were a few haters in the comments! Personally, I think it’s great when a serious band decides to do a lighter song just for fun. Heck, The Beatles did their share! 😊
Man, I wore out that Joe Jackson album in college!
Oh my goodness wavelength and radio song back to back on a reaction channel I am stupefied love you
Don’t forget Geoff Downes was also in Yes during Drama and is currently part of the band. Also Trevor Horn helped produce 90125 and specifically Owner of a Lonely Heart which is their most famous song unfortunately
Brilliant marathon JK. Every track excellent, and all in my collection bar Van. And I loved that track as well! I'm so glad you picked up on the bass in Joe Jackson's song Nick. The bassist is Graham Maby and he is phenomenal. On all JJ albums he's there, and no matter what style, and Joe's done a few, Graham is brilliant. One of the most under- appreciated bas players around. Great reaction Nick, thanks.
That was fun! Great picks.
The rapper on the R.E.M. track is KRS-1 from a hip hop band called Boogie Down Productions.
Video Killed The Radio Star was 1st recorded by Bruce Wooley & The Camera Club (w/Thomas Dolby on keyboards). I've always preferred Bruce's version. Also check out Costello's SNL performance of Radio Radio, it was a spontaneous decision he made, that got him banned fron SNL for a while.

Definitely "Mohammed's Radio" by Warren Zevon - great song. And "Caravan" is one of my all time favorite Van Morrison songs - lots of radio in the lyrics, just not in the title. "Radio Free Europe" by REM - good song but it's not about music.

"Video Killed the Radio Star" was on the album Adventures in Modern Recording and featured a song called "I Am a Camera", then when Trevor Horn was in the re-constituted version of Yes, their album Drama had a track called "Through The Lens" which is a different take on the same song. I happen to love Drama, it's a really strong album even though it's like a "nearly Yes".
The synthesizer on Wavelength was played by Peter Bardens from the band Camel.
Declan Patrick MacManus OBE (born 25 August 1954),known professionally as Elvis Costello. Early in his career he began to use Costello as his surname after his father’s stage name Day Costello, and then start using the first name Elvis after Elvis Presley.
I only know the Buggles tune. Fun fact: When MTV launched in 1981 the first thing they played was Video Killed The Radio Star. These 2 guys Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes were members of the Yes Drama era and decades later for Fly From Here-Return Trip.
“Radio Free Europe” by R.E.M. (1983) “Rock and Roll Radio” by the Ramones (1980) “Mexican Radio” by Wall of Voodoo (1982)
More radio...!!! Joni Mitchell´s " You Turn Me On I'm a Radio"... I like his one.
Joe Jackson always puts on a great live show and surrounds himself with awesome players. While I love his bouncy radio hits, my favorites are his moody, thoughtful albums, like "Night Music". Give a listen to "The Man Who Wrote Danny Boy". RE The Buggles, I never think of them as one hit wonders, since Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes had increadibly impactful musical careers, and The Buggles were just a small part of that. But it is fun trivia that "Video Killed The Radio Star" was, appropriately, the first music video played on MTV.
Declan McManus is "Elvis Costello's" real name. The EC moniker was an idea his manager came up with. He is on a Bob Dylan level with his songwriting.
Wavelength is a seriously underrated gem in the Van Morrison back catalogue. Veedon Fleece is another

Shakespears Sister - Hello (Turn Your Radio On)
I'm reminded again that Michael Stipe could stand there and sing the Alphabet Song, acapella, and I'd be smiling vacantly, entertained to the marrow in my bones.
One piece of trivia on Video Killed The Radio Star is it was the first song played on MTV, from back when all they did was show music videos.
Elvis Costello was born Declan McManus and changed his name when he became a professional musician. Other radio songs to consider "On My Radio" by The Selector (a joyous ska classic), "Who Listens To The Radio" by Sports (Aussie pub rock), "Mexican Radio" by Wall of Voodoo, "Turn Up Your Radio" by The Master's Apprentices, "This Is Radio Clash" by The Clash... too damn many to choose from!

Love the Wall of Voodoo track!
and the healing has begun by van, you won't be sorry.Hi from cape town.
Wall of Voodoo "I'm on a Mexican Radio" is a fun 1-hit wonder. Autograph "Turn up the radio" is a cheezy 80s glam rocker Rammstein "Radio" is a dark synth and metal fusion ballad, sound both modern and retro -- very interesting video too. Of course RusH "Spirit of Radio" is a classic weird one-off for them. One of my forgotten favorites is John Stewart & Stevie Nicks "Gold"
FYI, Elvis Costello is the stage name of Declan MacManus.
All the songs here are stellar
Radio Song is fine though I would have chosen R.E.M.'s first single, Radio Free Europe. It would have fit with the time period of the others. Good list of songs though. Others could be Doors - The Wasp (Texas Radio) or Joni Mitchell - You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio. Geoff (Jeff) Downes and Trevor Horn were with YES for the album Drama. After the breakup Geoff left with Steve Howe to found Asia. Horn went into producing. In 2008 Geoff rejoined YES where he remains as their current keyboardist.

This was my first album by Van though I ha listen so many songs that’s either my brother owned or on the FM radio stations. Love this and just about everything VANthe MAN did up until around 1980.Joe Jackson was so good with a dance and exciting sound back in his prime.Joe does a classic big band album which is incredible. The 2 members which consisted of The Buggles then joined YES on The Drama album replacing Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman to the shock of YES fans. The album surprisingly had some of their best work with my favorite being Into The Lens.Trevor Horn only sang on one album for YES and then Jon came back for YES’s 90125 album .Geoff Downes took Rick ‘s place and later on replaced Rick and others later in the mid 2000’s again to the present day lineup. Not even on the same plane as Rick! Elvis was the biggest and most talented solo artist of the New Wave sound staring around 1979 on! Many fantastic tunes by Elvis such as Allison, Oliver’s Army, and so many more!
That synth on Van Morrison threw me for a loop. A nice surprise.
Wavelength was my first Van album. The first of many. Van the incredible Man.

Both Buggles albums are well worth a listen. Most people know them from "Video killed..", but there's so much more to them. Trevor Horn would go on to become one of the most prolific producers in the 80s with massive hits from ABC, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Grace Jones, Simple MInds, Pet Shop Boys and Propaganda.
The Buggles' Trevor Horn and Geoffrey Downs went on to reboot Yes on the massively underrated Drama. You HAVE to do Into the Lens!! Trevor Horn then produced 90215 and many other records/artists. Geoffrey Downes founded the super group Asia with Jon Wetton (king Crimson, UK), Carl Palmer (ELP), and Steve Howe (Yes).
Radio is the theme. Not all of these were hits on the radio. Elvis Costello caused some controversy when he switched songs halfway on SNL to start playing this one. It is a protest to the record companies.
