    Hey Scott. These boats are bringing back to many memories. I used to live in Washington State. Never got to go to a Hydroplane race. But I used to watch a lot of boats on T.V. My favorite driver of the Miss Atlas Van Lines was then Bill Muncie. Of course there were a lot of other drivers with other boats, but I sure miss it. I live in N.C now they unfortunately don't have the boats here. Well that I have heard of. Great video I totally enjoyed it a lot. Thanks

    There are less electric boats than I would have expected. I would love to hear more 'engine tech' but I suppose that is all hush hush. I spotted that massive 17+mm carb right before you mentioned it. Can we assume all these engines have full circle cranks, stuffed cases, top secret porting recipes and high compression? We used to get 20,000 RPM out of air cooled Zenoah engines so I can imagine you make insane power with liquid cooled engines. Thanks for the tour.

    Also on my huge quarter scale boats one is catamaran and other is a hydro plane v shape front like kirks light blue and white boat you showed and I have a water pump in the that is for small ponds or home made fountains from Lowes and I flip a switch to spray water to stop a fire instantly cuse the v shape 1/4 scale like Jeff's Budweiser one is a giant gas powered one and it has it and the other one like kirks has the biggest brushless motor I could fit in it with 2 6s batteries 100c and it has the home made fire suppression system and it has saved that boat twice from burning up. And for my paint jobs I just use rc airplane mono kote and it looks amazing cuse you just cut your stripes with razar knife or number 7 exacto or a scalpel like I do and you just cut out your stripes and shapes for on top of the base colors and I have made some amazing graphics and beautiful boats using it and it lays on nice and flat and is always super glossy cuse it can't orange peel like paint and then I just spray the whole thing in 2k clear coat it's a 2 part clear coat for paint jobs you can get it in a spray can and you pop a ball to activated the hardner in the spray can and just spray even coats just don't get clear and the edges that are tucked inside the boat so you can remove the mono kote and it's so glossy like glass. Also the boat racing league I was in while I lived in cannada as a kid with the quarter scale we had a timing system that tracks your lap times positions laps or race time limit if we are racing like 4-6 minute races like you do in rc car racing it's pretty cool setup it's a pole on a little inflatable and has the wire going across that pole and every time you pass through it reads your transponder its a co and easy portable setup and it's got two giant 20 lbs anchors holding it in place the best you can and it worked well. I have a huge lake size pond in the middle of all my neighbors backyards back up to it and everyone has their own section of lake or pond front on the shore and I set up a portable timing system and tried to do electric boat races 1/10 scale and they called the hoa and cops for endangering the ducks when their fishing line has hurt way more ducks then anything else that they break off into the water and my boats have not injured a single duck cops said it's perfectly legal and hoa said it was ok to race once a week but the old ppl kept calling cops everytime we would race so I just stopped doing it cuse it got an lying but I still run my giant 1/4 scale gas powered 2 stroke weed eater powered boat in it twice or three times every week just to piss them off cuse nothing they can do about it

    Dayum that Miss Bud is sexy! I remember watching Chip fly those boats back in the day when I was a kid. What kind of magnets are you using? Have you tried neodymium AKA rare earth magnets? They're STUPID strong so you can get away with using super tiny ones that don't weigh much, like a 4mm one should be strong enough. Epoxy or super glue them in with a tiny 4mm tab of sheet metal on the mating surface. Just make SURE to hang on to them TIGHT TOO! Don't let them "snap" together or they'll shatter easy, or give you a helluva blood blister if you get in their way! You can find them on the Ama... Zon...

    The engines we use rotate in the opposite direction from the engines in full-size hydroplanes. The prop torque in big boats tends to lift the right sponson, so they turn right to keep it down. In our boats it lifts the left sponson so we turn right to keep it down

  • @M5PerfHydros

    @M5PerfHydros

    2 жыл бұрын

    You think? Crikey Adam, that's nuts! So here's my take on "balancing"... When I build a boat I layout my hardware and then pick the boat up using one finger on each side moving forward/back until I find the balance point. This point should be right in the center of the turn fin or slightly forward, and that's it. I have never checked my prop weight! If it doesn't balance where I want it I move hardware until it does, simple as that.

  • @Adam-ks8rk

    @@M5PerfHydros I'm not weighing the prop but I was told the back of the boat should weigh 1 lb or 3/4 of a pound is that critical? Or everyone has a different way of doing things ?

  • @M5PerfHydros

    @M5PerfHydros

    2 жыл бұрын

    If every boat was of the exact same design with strut depth, strut angle, ride height, break point, attack angle, ride pad width, ride pad length, etc, etc, all exactly the same, then yes I suppose someone's measured and proven strut weight could be trusted 🥴 Again, I believe a boat is ideal if all of those things work together to place the CG right on the center of the turn fin. Think about it... The turn fin is your pivot point, about which the boat rotates in order to turn. If the center mass of weight is ahead of the fin the fin will have to fight to pull the nose into the turn. If the center mass is behind the fin the tail will overreact with inertia. But if the mass is centered on the pivot point the boat will rotate quickly and smoothly and with any luck will almost seem to accelerate through the turn. At least, that's the way I heard it. 🤗

    Life is too short to live like that Vern. Here we're all friends, just hanging out and having a great time. Nobody is uptight or freaked out or so crazy anal that they'd go bezerk over someone touching their boat. You should come race with us sometime....

    I'm a huge hobbies rc racers/ pro if you count me winning a few hundred dollars in the last 2 years of indoor carpet 1/10 scale oval and road course racing and giant RC boat racing in a 1/4 2 stroke offshore style racing boat class when I was in cannada as a kid and 1/10 v hule racing class and won about 5k dollars Canadian racing boats, but when we moved to the Gulf coast of Alabama with tons of water around we don't have a single rc boat racing club or league and we have tons of giant ponds,lakes super wide and huge rivers where the width is lake size that has a slight current sometimes that makes it like a scale version of waves so the boats jump like off shore and tons of other areas of water to race we are surrounded by different types of water and no rc boat racing but I still run my two boats I love taking the huge 1/4 scale to the beach like the gulf of Mexico side or to the flats when I go spec trout fishing and run it in the waves or small surf in the flats when fishing is going bad and it a blast jumping it and flying through the waves and small surf it looks so scale and we could have actuall 1/4 scale off shore racing on the beach and it will look so realistic it's sad, we have rc pylon plane racing and the indoor carpet stuff which is huge here race every weekend the cars and every Thursday night is legends rj speed nights and we switch from road course to oval one week oval next is road course then Sundays on road course weeks we add jumps for indoor carpet off road racing and it's a balst and we been doing that since 2017 when it first opened and car count is so huge they will never close to much money invested by alot of ppl. And the whole carpet track is a rectangle and it's the same size as the snowbirds track so we get to practice for snowbirds rc race every week so when we go to snowbirds we know our oval cars are perfectly dialed in and close for road course cuse it's the 2019 snowbirds track the track owner bought it and everything that was used to make the track he got with it
