The Box art on Japanese boxed games blows away the American version. I've always wanted Super Street Fighter 2 boxed for super famicom 😊😊

Japanese box art does indeed tend to be awesome. I can really only think of a handful of games where I prefer the NA box art. Turtles in Time and Super Castlevania IV coming to mind.

This is a fantastic Surugaya, far better than the majority of stores I saw in my recent trip to Japan. Excellent video.

16:30 you should check those NES carts to see if they are 5-screw variants. Some of those go for bonkers prices. It’s great to see complete in box is almost the standard in Japan.

Great video. I think it's very interesting format, maybe you can make a retro game hunt, for each system with 50 dollars as budget.

Thanks for this super helpful video. Omiya is on my schedule for next weeks' holiday. I had 4 Hard/Book Offs in the area, but totally missed this Surugaya. Hope you left some bargains on the shelves for those late to the party.

No worries there, I left plenty of games behind. The Hard Offs in the area were also quite nice.

Can't go wrong with TMNT. Turtles in Time and Shredder's Revenge both have some of my all-time favorite soundtracks.

The JRPG discount is always fascinating to me. The price differential between the cost of JRPGs in Japan vs their imported releases in America. That could be a great format for a video, for the cost of one American Chrono Trigger, you could get console generation defining JRPGs like FF4,5,6. Dragon Quest 5&6, and Super Famicom remakes of 1, 2 & 3. For the cost of one American version of Goemon's Great Adventure, you can get the Japanese copy, and every N64 game that regularly goes over 100$ in the west but goes for 270Y at your local Hardoff loose cartridge bin.

Great pickups as usual. I’m thinking of diving into some Sega systems that I’ve never played would you recommend starting with the Saturn or Dreamcast?

  • @MadPanicGaming

Definitely Saturn, it has a much bigger library of games and still some very affordable titles. Dreamcast is awesome but more challenging to collect for.

The spine card will be visible on the outside of the case, but if it's inside the case it'll be indicated on the price sticker.

I've been watching you for a while now because I really enjoy what you do. I JUST noticed the massive disconnect from your intro and name and your actual content. You have a soothing, relaxed voice and attitude and your filming is a nice, slow, peaceful stroll through neighborhoods, Suruga-ya, and Hard Off. But the Channel is Mad Panic Gaming! You have fast, intense music in the intro and someone yelling that "it's crazy!". I dunno, maybe you do it on purpose. Maybe it's just the duality of man. It's not that big of a deal and I'm always gonna watch what you post, I just thought the difference was kinda amusing. If you do decide to lean-in one way or the other, I really enjoy what you're already doing with the chill vibes rather than the wild bit. There was a side quest in Yakuza 0 where some kid gets his video game stolen, but I'm not sure if that's a reference to kids getting mugged for their Dragon Quest IV because 0 takes place in the late 80s and DQIV came out early 90s. I can't remember the name of the stolen game in the quest either. But hey, who knows? Maybe. I know VN/Sims aren't your favorite, but how can you pass up Kanon for ¥300?

I find it helps viewer retention to get people hyped at the start of the video and ease them into the rest of it. As for the name, I changed it this year because I wanted to start incorporating more of my other interests into the content. Metal and Punk music, horror influences, a bit of 90's Mtv and ECW type stuff, still working the kinks out.
