Fun fact: Commando cody was the inspiration for commander cody in star wars

Ate this up as a youngster. Brings back a lot of memories.Would act out this serial with my playmates & always an argument on would be Commander Cody. I noticed that the Lone Ranger played a bad guy.

I did the same, but curiously I don't actually remember anything about the show other than its name. I must have been too young.

Those were the days ! When rocket pilots dressed like bus drivers.

I loved Commando Cody when I was a kid. I had a customer that tried to buy the Commando Cody's rocket ship from the prop house that possessed it. Unfortunately, it had been destroyed and thrown in the trash. This happened before the value of props was realized. A horrible loss to Pop Culture!

I liked the show because Commander Cody was obviously more aerodynamic than Superman, or Mighty Mouse.

That's like the controls on Cody's rocket suit: two knobs, UP and DOWN.

A lot more clouds and vegetation than I thought the moon had.

A direct inspiration for Dave Stevens' The Rocketeer.

I used to love watching these episodes on our black & white TV as a kid in the 50s.

"You'd never know we were moving!" "We are, and a lot of miles per minute!" "How much is a lot, boss?" A long pause, and then: "I dunno. A lot."

One of the funniest lines, I have ever heard.

I remember this from my childhood! (Ok, i'm only 40, but when I was a kid, the Rocketeer came out, and my local rental videostore then acquired the old serials of Comando Cody!)

Yep same here. I rented this one. It was two VHS tapes.

Did anyone else notice that the guy with the binoculars spotting for the guy firing the ray gun @ 4:35 is Clayton (The Lone Ranger)Moore?! Man I love this old stuff. Thanks for posting Zip!

I was looking for him after I noticed his name in the beginning credits. HIs voice gave him away before I recognized him.

"...its the only possible answer....atomic activity on the moon, atomic blasts on the earth. The two known facts fit together." "Yes, it adds up." HA!!!

The cluelessness of these bad guys gets me: "You're being well paid to work for us so that we can invade the Earth. Now go!" "Uh, sure, boss...uh, what happens to us after you all invade?" "We'll discuss that when we pay you off."

I’m not happy that the bad guys are betraying their fellow earthlings, but they do look super sharp in their suits!

"What about the chairs, boss?" "What about them?" "Don't you think we should lock the wheels so they don't roll on us? I'd hate to go rolling outta here before we get to the moon." "Gee ... I never thought of that!" "Well, you shoulda. You being the Lone Ranger, you're s'posed to think of everthin', smart guy." "That's Kimo Sabe to you, you uppity Injun." "That's Native American, to you." "Nothin' I hate more than an uppity Injun." "And you wouldn't hafta wear no stoopid mask, you had any confidence. I keep tellin' you, Kimo Sabe, low self-esteem." To carry on his good guy role Clayton Moore should have the roll as rocketman.

Really just over 17 years later and there would be “Earth Men From the Moon” !!

It is fun see to a preview. I was given the VHS tape recently and I have been procrastinating watching it.

Amazing that Ted, in lab scene, wears a buckle raincoat as lab coat lol. And doesn't he sound like Karl Malden? Love this show!

What happens when the Lone Ranger goes bad and starts working for wierdos from the moon with an atomic death ray! Hmm. They got a death ray that can blow up buildings and such.. but along comes Commando with his little .38 and they run for it, abandoning truck, death ray, and all.

My favorite when I was a kid, I really liked it and terribly frighten by the primitive robot that used to attack Cody!!

Commando Cody and his friend just could not fight well, Clayton Moore(The Ranger) just kicked butt.

Another great episode of 'Head Trauma Theater'.

"Hey, boss . . . How come the moon looks just like Earth? And how come the sky's not all . . . You know . . . black? And how come there ain't no . . . You know . . . stars?" "Cuz the prop men don't know their ass from a hole in the ground."

The main villain is Clayton Moore, best known as The Lone Ranger, and the flying scenes very much mimic the style of one of Republic's best serials, "Adventures of Captain Marvel."

This is the very first Commando Cody episode, from January 1952. Strategic targets on Earth are being destroyed by an unknown weapon. Government security head Henderson suspects it's an "atomic ray" originating from the moon. He assigns Commando Cody, scientist and man of action, with a secret flying suit, to investigate.

Spaceships, rocket packs... but the train was pulled by a steam locomotive! ;-)

HA HA its so cool that Commander Cody can fly but still needs a gun to fight the bad guys. No super powers makes it more realistic future cops could fly with jet-packs as well.

Can someone tell me why this was called Radar Men when the word radar was not used once in any episode, nor do we see it being used..?

in the later serial, Cody was played by a different actor and wore a mask. Joan and Ted didn't know who he was.

There was another Commando Cody series before this. They recycled a lot of footage, costumes and props for this one.

It's importtant to shut the radio down as soon as you're finished with it, the tubes will wear out! And of course they need a woman along to cook.

In the sequel Commando Cody Sky Marshall of the Universe, the woman is a trusted team member who actually does things like flying the rocket ship!

lamwen03 No, a new character. In CCSMOTU Cody works for the government, and they insist that he wear a Lone Ranger mask under his helmet and assign him two new assistants. The male assistant is Richard Crane aka Rocky Jones Space Ranger.

So the bad guys have a great fight with Cody and co., then rush out of the room without the atomic ray gun. Hnnn.

Ever since we dropped that pesky atomic bomb, things haven't gone right for Earth.

i mean really? this is what my father used to watch?! the moon men are obvious communists, they tell the hero what their plan is. the moon men missed five to six chances to straight up kill the main character. also civilian targets... yeah any serious invasion force would maybe i dunno attack millitary bases, the suez canal, start WWIII by making the US think it was Russia (or china whatever) destroy as many millitary bases whilst keeping the humans alive (to tax 'em, use 'em as cheap labour ETC)
