Back in the late 80s or early 1990s Texas A&M did a study of people who use radar detectors and found that the use of radar detectors reduces your incidence of accidents by 300%. They found that the average driver, if my memory serves me correct and, has an accident approximately every 247000 miles. They found that people who used radar detectors didn't have an accident but once every 837000, I believe it's. Somewhere pretty close to that number. That is more than a three-fold decrease and accidents. And their conclusions were predicated on the fact that the drivers who used radar detectors were more aware of their surroundings. The other thing that I noticed is that the use of a laser, because it is highly specific, is used in such a way that it does not a lot the police officer to make his own judgment on which car is speeding. He depends on the technology to tell him which car and how fast. It is at least mildly better than having some police officer up in an aircraft and telling another police officer who to pull over, which is by definition collusion. A police officer who signs a citation when he was not a witness to the infraction, is committing a crime. Kind of why they'll pull you over for texting on your cell phone but I've seen police officers drive down the street for three-quarters of a mile or more texting on their cell phone

Radar Trap detectors are illegal in Ontario and most Canadian provinces. . As someone who racks up over 100K+ miles/kilometres every year, carrying equipment, I use a detector. . I mounted my radar detector IN the roof light bar of my Pathfinder which is made of a steel bar covered with decorative plastic. As an electronics communications technician I was easily able to disguise all wiring as OEM style. Worked well - was even good, on straight flat roads up to 3-5 kilometres. . Ontario cops use Radar Detector DETECTORS - which up the Radar Detectors oscillator emissions. On one occasion I was following a York Region traffic vehicle and I could see through his rear window he was furiously playing with his window mounted accessories. Since I was the only nearby vehicle he figured to stop me. . I had a Communications Test Set strapped in my back seat, which was plugged in, so as to keep its accuracy high between service points, along with other test equipment. . I advised the cop that my test equipment triggered all sorts of things like door openers, alarms, etc. He blamed his false alarms on my (legal) equipment and let me go!

This is ridiculous, at 6:21 the ad for the Blinder Extreme Laser Jamming System blocks where the speed would have appeared, the ad continues to stay there for 10 seconds This video shows no proof whatsoever.

I had a jammer in the grill of my peterbilt when I used to drive trucks. Used to do 100 mph in that truck and the cops would be so frustrated because they could never find my radar detector or jammer.

Radar as well as laser travels at the speed of light. The difference is that the detector might see the radar before it sees you because the beam is so wide.

Laser Jamming is not illegal. Radar Jamming is. Reason? laser is light emitting jamming whereby Radar is Frequency based jamming and is outlawed by federal regulation. But Radar Detectors span out huge waves and your Radar Detector will pick it up long befoire the cops get you on Radar. 60-80% of all Police Forces still use radar guns, while more metropolitan (think heavy traffic) police agencies use Lasers. Lasers span out minimal crossectional wavelengths that are usually not effective with detections, if your laser detector goes off your already busted. BUT Laser Jammers actually allow you the chance to slow down before they can bust thru the jammer, though some are so effective they actually block all Laser Attacks. My $.02 worth of Expert Tech Specialty. If you drive less than 7 MPH over the limit you will "ALMOST" never get a ticket. Haven't had a ticket in 14 years. And I do not use jammers or detectors.

my whistler xtr 693SE is starting to give out. had a great 4 year run, so radar roy, im looking for a radar detector, however im on a $150 budget. What are some detectors you would recommend? The one I am currently looking at on ebay is the escort 8500 x50 (black version). I've found them at around $200, a little out of my range. I can get the x50 (regular version) for about $120, but I want to make sure this detector is better than the one I currently have. Whats your take on it? feel free to message me.

Tazzi2010 Right now wouldn't recommend anything in the $150 range unless you want to get a bunch of false alerts from the anti collision systems that are being installed in new cars today that operate on K band

Depends on where you live. Try to Google it for your city/county/state.

I know someone who painted their car in Radar Absorbing Material. "RAM" for short, they eventually caught him by cooking the distance and time it took him to from A to B but he got away with countless speeding violations prior to it.

When I pull over, I never was ask for my insurance. Am 18 now. Does it affect the car insurance or just my driver Lin record.

You only need one laser jammer

In Virginia it's big trouble if ya get caught w/ a Radar Detector in the car. But a friend bought a Radar Detector(detector) & it not only protected you against speeding tickets but it caught their "Radar Detector" Beams & scrambled them so you remained hidden & he swore it worked but IDKnow cuz they'd take your DL for using one if ya got caught?

why is the speed reading for when the jammer is active at 6:26 blocked by the Blinder Extreme Laser Jamming System video caption... can we see a reading that is not blocked... there is a red line behind the caption like all the other readings.

As long as the officer can articulate your speed.

Radar detection is illegal in some state but any kind of jam is illegal in all states plus if cop targets you with lazer abd do not see a reading than there might be a very high chance he will stop you ask if you have any jammer.

Jeez in NSW Australia its 9 points (almost losing your license in one go) and something like $6000 fine

One problem with a laser jammer...if you are getting laserred by a cop and his laser says 0 while he sees the car moving, it's a dead giveaway you're jamming.

Yes, however 95% of all laser is shot to the front. If you want to protect the rear of your vehicle add jammer heads to the rear

They blocked the site of how fast he was going when using the jamming device.. Makes me think that the device doesn't work. Why would they block it out with a text box?

Not necessarily, I've seen some very well taken care of NG 900's and 9-3's that have perfect displays. No they haven't been replacements, before you ask.

As someone who's used a radar detector for quite sometime I feel like people watch this videos and get false information. Contrary to what this video says your eyes and awareness are your best tools to avoid a ticket, taking not to people breaking in unusual places, or traffic being to slow down rapidly. Also, while you do get what you pay for 3:43 "the advances of a good detector is that it will alert you to a police radar gun before they have a chance to clock your car" and 3:55 "this detector isn't constantly driving you crazy with false alerts, it automatically adjust its sensitivity level" aren't 100% accurate. Unless the detector is physic its going to tell you when someone else's car has been clocked (perfect case), or when you have been clocked. If you have spent 300-400 on a radar detector you should also know how to operate it and know when to ignore false readings . I own a Valentine 1 and while we have the ability to use a smart setting you never know when the detector, which is a computer could make a mistake and ignore a radar signal. So its best to listen to every signal and make your own conclusions. Furthermore, regarding lasers, if your state allows laser jammers and the police are unable to read your cars speed their still more than liking going to stop you because they know something is up. But this is just food for thought.

so what about if your car goes past and the jammers are in the front..if they use the laser on the back of the car will it still be jammed? if not it needs to be a all around the car type thing..

They sell them in sets, but the idea is to give you enough time to slow down before you pass the cop.

Jammers do work however you cannot run them constantly there's more to it than meets the eye. Not to mention the fact that there are many other ways to get caught other than laser, radar. I recently got caught when the police were using quarter mile Lines on the Highway.

i went pass this trooper who was hiding on a bridge at 60mph while the speed limit was 45mph. When i went pass that car and look at my rear view mirror. i was like holy shit that was a fucken trooper. Ready for my ticket now. The Trooper didn't stop me because i was not black. I guess that Trooper must have seen worse days than my 15mph over the speed limit.

@ 4:00 those things are no good anymore. Lots of new cars have anti collision warning sensors that completely throw the radar detector buzzing all over the place. And on top of that, cops got smarter and use radar guns equipped with VG2 sniffers. It's primary purpose is to spot speed. But will kick back a distinct tone to alert the officer if the car aimed by lazer has a radar detector. Truck drivers used to have detectors. (illegal in commercial vehicles) so if they catch your speed "not speeding", and hear that tone? They are pulling you over anyways and searching the truck inside out. Fines are sky high. $$$$

I was stopped twice by the York Area Regional Police Department at the Powder Mill Road bridge when I was getting semi trucks to blow the air horns.

you can challenge any ticket in court - calibration issues and dates of repair and calibrations. your tire size can make a huge difference. detectors are not legal in all states! best to have factory dash and rear camera, should record your speed. actually your cell phone can ping you for speed too.

I know someone, won't say who because idk how legal this is but he has a really expensive passport system wired into his car with a little light that blinks on the A pillar and it tells you on the gps screen where the radar is and if it's a cop or a traffic light camera. It's pretty sweet

Austin A most new sta nav's come with the feature. it will tell you speed cameras, traffic cameras and common police gun spots. I know Garmin do one

In Sweden both systems are illegal. Only 'remedy' is to install a 'kill'-switch, that destroys your detector. Press the button if the police spots the equipment and tell the officer that the equipment does not work and that the previous owner had it installed. If you are the only owner just say your neighbor installed it and that it has never worked.

tommy wong depends on state law look it up. I can use were I live but when I cross state line its illegal can't even have it in glove box so technical I'm supposed to put in my trunk. Atleast that's what the officer told me.

@@creedhunter4573 I did not question the the technology used on either. I am familiar with both technologies. It has been 2 years ago so I do not really remember the statement but I believe it was suggested that LIDAR travels at the speed of light and radio frequencies do not. They both travel at approximately the speed of light. The speed of light is given at 186,000 miles per second in a vacuum. The speed through a medium (atmosphere, water, etc.) is slightly less.

What happens if the cop targets your rear license plate with a laser, but only your front license plate is equipped with laser jammers: Wouldn't the cop then be able to get a reading on your speed as you drove pass?
