Why is it always racism when Serena got involved? I personally just do not like some tennis players because of their personalities and their behaviour on the court. Such players involve Zverev or Fognini or Kyrgios and it involves also female players like Putintseva or Cornet and also Serena. So my dislike of them has nothing to do with their skin color.

This is so emotional. Serena cried as she arranged her bag . Her sister cried from the stands. I cried watching this clip knowing the background story. True strength lies in forgiveness. It’s one of the most difficult things to do. This is why Nelson Mandela will always be for me the greatest statesman that ever lived and Serena the greatest sportswoman in history. In the course of their duties they did something way more difficult than all their other achievements put together. Let’s all learn from these godly examples.

I was courtside at the US open when Serena played Venus in 2001 and the crowd booed relentlessly. I ended up courtside because so many people didn't show up who bought tickets that they asked us to move down to fill the seats so the it would look good for the cameras. I had paid $125 for a ticket and because of racism I got to see icons perform up close. I can tell you that they hit those balls like rockets. It was amazing. I thank God everyday for that experience, amid the boos from the crowd I was cheering them both, screaming at the top of my lungs. I hope they heard me and I hope my lone little voice made them know that someone was on their side and I still am!

Serena's legacy is the game that's played today. When she arrived on the scene she revolutionized the women's game. She took women's tennis to new heights, she set records that will never be matched. Imagine waking up in the morning & realizing you're the greatest there ever was or will be. She earned it all the hard way--to achieve all this as a Black woman means she had to fight harder than anyone will ever know. Serena is a role model for how to succeed on your own terms.

Joe Ann I’m Caucasian, but I’m not American. But what got me was when the lady said “we just wanna live out loud”. That’s what societies all over the globe have been suffering from and fighting against, whether it be women in general fighting to get their own voices heard, and the inevitable fear the men in power at that time would have had. Or whether it be children speaking out against systematic and institutionalised child abuse and the fear held in the hearts fo the abusers. I think that everyone has a right to “live out loud” as we are all creatures of the lord. In all honesty, I’m not American so will not speak on your experience or even try to understand your position. Just keep on making your life be out loud and know that you have my support, and most likely, the support of many Caucasian women also. ❤️xx

Dear Serena, Thank you for this Video. I am 62 years old, and on May 13, 2019, I graduated with a masters degree, from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My entire two years there I was subjected to racism and bullying. Like you at Indian Wells, I did not understand why. I never expected to have that experience at such a prestigious institution. I could have easily given up and quit. There I was this older woman among so many younger students who made me feel unwelcome. A teacher at the school who had embarrassed me in her class, said in her apology to me, that the school is a White Supremacist Institution. While I did not believe what she said, in my case, it certainly felt that way. All that you and Venus has gone through in the sport of Tennis, a mostly white institution, inspired me throughout my two years as SAIC. I also gain inspiration each time I glance at headings in the media that refer to you, Venus and Mrs.Obama as having animal features. I don't read the articles anymore. I just use those racist headlines to inspire me to continue reaching for my goals at age 62. It is obvious those comments are a reflection of that persons jealousy. You, Venus and Mrs. Obama could not be more beautiful examples of African-American Women, who are beautiful inside and out. external beauty and internal beauty. Thank you and Venus for being so much more than Tennis Super Stars.

I still see the accusation made against them that the only reason they still win is because they're physically much stronger so they can hit the ball harder than any other player, which is just a fallacy seemingly used to invalidate their level of skill and the years spent honing it.

The public was terrible booing at her but Serena has always rejoiced playing the victim card. I would have been angry against any player white or black or whatever race or origin if I payed a ticket to see a match and there are rumors that her/his brother didn´t let me see it. Some players are liked more than others and that isn´t necesarry raccism related, tell that to Djokovic who had to deal with a 99% crowd cheering Federer in last Wimbledon final, or Hingis in the FO 99 final against Steffi, or Kyrgios who has problems with crowd, specially when he´s playing Nadal, yet nobody complains about racism because they know all athletes have to play against the crowd sometimes. Serena is just another player that is not everybody´s like, she´s a great athlete but I think people don´t like her aggressive personality on court and the fact that she had it much easier than other players because of her sister.

@Emcstea Many people thought that Venus threw the semifinal so that Serena could save herself for the final. It is certainly plausible because, after exploding onto the scene in 1999, Serena had a comparatively lacklustre 2000, winning only a pair of Tier II tournaments. Coming into 2001 Indian Wells, Serena had not won a Tier I title since the 1999 US Open and had slipped from 4th to 6th in the rankings. Is it really so hard to believe that the Williams decided that it was not worth having Serena and Venus tire each other out to face the winner of Hingis-Clijsters, and Serena's career needed a boost? In the end, Hingis-Clijsters payed three sets, and a more rested Serena beat Clijsters in a three-set final, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Not to mention that Venus seemed to recover pretty quickly from her injury, she won the tournament the week after Indian Wells. None of this is in any way racist.

Unfortunately, she has been subjected to racism and a lot of negativity through her career from the crowd and the media and the umpires. I am not black, but I believe this is quite disgraceful that someone like her would be subjected to all this undermining. It is just terrible that we judge people according to their skin color or status or race or religion. She is truly an icon.

What had a lot to with Indian Wells were the organizers. Venus Williams was injured during her match in the quarters. She was seen by three doctors who advised her not to play. The tournament was notified immediately but the organizers held off notifying the public until the day just before the schedule semi final to not affect ticket sales of a Williams Williams match. The commentors alleging fixing was slander. The audience perception was a fix all because of greedy organizers. Had Richard Williams and the family gone public after the Doctors reports it never would have happened. The blame for the entire thing rests sorely on the greedy organizers and the slanderous gossip from the sports announcers. Serena was not right to go back in my opinion, it just gave the greedy organizers another chance to use her.
