Racing the Rain on My Pole Barn | Engels Coach Shop
I want wing extensions on my pole barn for equipment storage space. I've had the post sets for a couple of years, but need to frame in the walls to prepare for the tin. Overcast and 90% chance of rain, so I'll see how far I can get.
Our place it totally off grid so I have to use a generator to run power tools. Thanks for coming along as I build this place from scratch.

Dave Engels sitting down and relaxing? Think it's the first time I've seen that. Well deserved.

Yes sir Wheathins I like them also.
In all the years I've been following you I think this is the first time I ever saw you sitting down and relaxing. You certainly deserve it.🙂🙂
The smell of fresh rain, the sound of the rain drops from the eaves & a handful of wheat thins. Sounds like a perfect afternoon to me.😃
If weather permits I sit under my extended roof portion and enjoy rain, sun, hummingbirds, coffee and great conversation with friends and family. Best times ever. I my friends have been blessed 🙏 thanks God.
Just a man and his GoPro for company. This looks like a worthwhile project.
I grew up with Dave's parents as my neighbor in Gibson Flats. Always were great people, and nice to let us neighbor kids play in their yard.
Yep, sitting easy, watching a gentle rain. Eating wheat thins - heaven.
Nothing better than being in the dry so close to the outdoors, listening to the rain. Ideal. Regards to you both. Richard 🇬🇧
Everybody needs to just sit and watch it rain. I have fond memories of sitting on the porch at my sitter’s house and watching it raid while I was a kid.
You needed the rain break today anyway Dave. It's looking good and you will sure enjoy the implement shed on both sides of the pole barn, sure helps with the winter storage . Stay safe and keep it peaceful around there. Fred.
I've heard of pigs having wings, but barns too? Oh well, as the rains fall I see Dave sitting there watching raindrops a fallin' and pigs flying by too! Have fun, Dave.
I don't know what it is, but there is something about watching it rain. Cheers to ya, Dave.
Sitting in the dry watching it rain outside is one of lifes luxuries and even nicer when it is a shared experience, thank you.
"just gonna watch it rain"... sometimes Nature says it's breaktime.. :)
Nothing like a good rain to soothe your sole.
The closing shot and comment is priceless. " I'm just gonna sit here and eat wheat thins, and watch the rain" That is awesome. Thank you both for this video.
LOOKED LIKE A NICE RELAXING DAY DAVE. ALWAYS CALMING TO THE SOUL FOR DAYS YOU CAN GET SOMETHING DONE AND END WITH A RELAXING PITTER PATTER ON THE METAL ROOF.
Sitting and listening to a steady gentle rain is one of the joys of life. Glad to see you enjoying it, Dave.
Dave, it will be nice to have the barn completed so you can keep everything out of the weather and make it last longer. Plus, it will make that area look nice and tidy so people will know you care about being neat and take care of the items that need to be out of the rain and show. Blessings to you.
Glad you got the tractor going after finding it was a simple coil problem. It still does a majority of what new tractors do...I'd agree with keeping it in running shape. Has it been 5 years since the Borax Wagons? Whoa nellie....time flys ! They just had their Mule Days in Bishop ! Rain is good...
Good rain for the pastures. Nice day to eat Wheatthings and relax. Great job. God Bless you and Mrs. Engels.
Send the rain to Pennsylvania Please we are Very Dry!!

I've always found that if you setup your equipment and work area to account for rain, or wind or whatever, the weather will be perfect just to spite the effort you put in. And, if it does rain, or blow, you're already setup to work around it
I love these videos Mr Dave, I am so glad you had the idea to expand your channel!
Sometimes there's not much you can do other than pull up a chair and watch and listen to it rain. A well-deserved break.
Wings! you say... that's a Red Bull que if ever I've heard one... ^~^ Quick note: to keep the dust from blowing up at yourself from the chop saw, I tape an old shirt sleeve (by the cuff) around the exit chute, and it works a treat at knocking down the saw dust.
There is just something very nice about the sound of a gentle rain on a tin roof. Great way to build walls, will keep this way in mind when I need to build some.
Wish I was there , looks really nice . Dave have a great relaxing afternoon,.
Such a satisfying video. Maybe you already know that the word for rain hitting the warm dry ground is petrichor. I could almost smell it through the phone. Lovely.
Here in the South we call those "hip sheds" but I certainly hope whatever you call them they turn out to be exactly what you expected them to be...
Nice work as always brother, appreciate the tag-along! ✌🇦🇺
An enforced rain break, sometimes frustrating, sometimes just absolutely fine.
Alays enjoy following along on your projects, Great video
Can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon!
You got quite a bit done before the rain got there. It will be nice to see it when it's completed.
some times your plans get changed for you. good to have alternative activities.
*Thank you for all sharing. As usual I enjoy every minute of your work.*
Sittin' down there in the doorway, fer a minute there pardner I thought you was a whittlin' waitin fer the 11 o'clock stage t' 'rive.

Don't confuse issues; I am older. When I was in 8th grade, the socialist government tested our IQ. My parents were told I should go, at best, to vocational school and become a carpenter (my grade at the test was 98%). I became a photographer, then a computer scientist but always loved carpentry and machining. You, sir are not only a gifted craftsman but a rare teacher. My children do not find much interest in physical creativity, but my granddaughter does. Thank you for your growing library of crafts instructions. The day is coming when they will be searched eagerly for the knowledge they contain.
Best thing about being careful is being careful.
The old wood stove. Hiding in the wild!
An Inch worm can travel a mile. and he does it an inch at a time. looks like you gained a few inches on this one Dave well done. and enjoy those Wheat thins. and the sound of Rain on the roof. well Deserved thanks for sharing. ECF
A nice Spring day in Eastern Montana.
Howdy D & D!! We have been getting plenty of hail in Rapid City.. The ground was white yesterday but the sun was out an hour later and it was 73°... Go figure. But not worrying about fire... and the grass needs water, too! Enjoyed the video, thank you both!!

We had a nice half inch of rain on Sat. Other than that it hasn't amonted to much for awhile.
Ten green bottles hanging on the wall, and if one green bottle should accidently fall, there'd be nine green bottles hanging on the wall.. Nine green bottles .... That's the vesrsion I know LOL!
That green grass vs dry brown is a beautiful site!!
I remember that song, I'm still wondering if anybody ever sang the whole thing.

We did once on a school bus trip. Got all the way to the last bottle of beer and then started over when the bus driver yelled, "Sing something else! PLEASE!" 😀
That’s livin’, my friend.
Dave, your casual talking parts is good.
Hi Dave Is that your old workshop stove you have stored out there. Very relaxing for a working man to sit in the doorway watching the rain. Thanks for all your videos.
I love to set and watch the rain. Especially if it's storming.
Once again thanks for the video.
We got two inches in an hour Friday night, quite the rain event for Montana!

This would be the first time I’ve seen Dave sitting down relaxing. Well done
Dave, I just had a barn built by Amish, they had a weed eater motor on their chop saw to run it. Also, they had back packs with weed eater motors to do drilling and screwing the siding on, they worked pretty slick!

That’s interesting. Loud too, though. Years ago I read about an Amish cabinet shop that had converted all their equipment to hydraulic motors.

@@bboomer7th I hauled a locomotive boiler to an Amish guy near Cleveland that rebuilds them,he had welders, air compressors, hydraulic units run on a line shaft. Overhead crane run on air, lathes, mills run on hydraulics, all run on a Cat engine. He captured the heat from the motor to heat the shop, and gas lights. It was really something to see!
At least you didn't have to saw them by hand.
This was fun to watch.
Great work, and relaxing wow, Regards Doug.
lol send some of that steady rain here. All we had was 5 minutes of sprinkles and then 90% humidity ugh. it was weird, for the past week and a half everyone around us has gotten rain and storms, while it was a hole in the clouds right over the top of us. strangest thing I ever saw
I have thought about it and about 100 miles north of where you are we have only had one week this year with out moisture in one form or another! It's been a very wet year fir Montana!
Ehi! E' la prima volta che vedo Dave SEDUTO!!!
Oh man. Wheat Thins. I was just thinking about Wheat Thins and I ate the last of them a few days ago. Well. Enjoy!
Nice job , better job sitting and having a snack , listening to the rain , smelling the air after the rain . Nice little veranda to sit on too . Grand job 👍🇬🇧
With so many extras you should put a piece vertical between center of rails. Scary, watching you sit on a rail and watching it bend.
GREAT WORK
Sometimes you can only do what the weather allows. Maybe a little nap is in order.
Hi Dave!!
My father, two brothers and I built a pole barn for our horses in Glendive, Montana back in 1963. Dad and one of my brothers is no longer with us, but the pole barn we built sixty ago is still there.
So relaxing watching someone else working. Looking forward to the next time!
I love Wheat Thins.
Makes me think of Wheat Thins.
Yikes, 5 years since the Borax build!!!
Always a pleasure watching you work.
thanks for sharing
Have fun.
Thanks Dave
So relaxing watching you.
those battery powered nail guns worth looking at.
YES, Wheat Thins. 👍
I see your Milwaukee miter saw has the same braking problem as all of the Milwaukee saws I have ever owned. Usually new brushes fix this problem. Usually.

Clean the commutator; clears it right up. You have the right idea with the brushes (they will make the commutator cleaner during break-in) but they're not the root of the issue.
As exciting as ur paint drying..
Nothing wrong with just sitting knife stick u get my point.
Enjoy
Um dia maravilhosamente produtivo, atingiu as suas espectativas. Parabéns.

Rebuilt the inside of my house. Old hard birch and walnut hand hewn studs. Nail gun? Didn't work. Deck screws did.
3:39 I was wondering if you were gonna set up stops for mass production.
Always using a blacksmith hammer - even for wood work
Great to see you doing nothing for once Dave😅 Only the Mother Nature can stop you have fun
Wheat Thins are great. Triscuit ain't bad either
The good life
Wheat Thins? I always took you for a Lay's Barbeque Potato Chip kind of guy.
Send the rain to Welker Farms.
