Racing One of the World's Rarest Cars - A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

With only 36 ever made, this legendary #Ferrari 250 GTO has spent most of her life safe inside garages. But she was made to race and that’s just what she’s gonna do at the #VelocityInvitational, a historic motorsport event that gives these classics some time in the sun and revives the old rivalries. Our man with the cam Larry Chen steps into the paddock with Velocity founder Jeff O’Neill to bask in the glory of this rare bird’s V12 engine, quad exhaust, wire wheels, and period correct Dunlop tire molds. And then he gets to ride in it! Poor Larry was SHOOK.

I met Tom Price in 1989 at one of his Cars Sales special in NorCal. Bought my wife an 89 Mustang convertible for him. Then saw him drive this car several times at what was then Sears Point. He is a proper owner of a 250 GTO.

Larry, this was an AWESOME video. Would love some more of these classic race car series. You nailed it with how it made you feel after you guys got off the track. Those gated shifts were something to admire.. As a huge fan of all forms of your work, this was extremely enjoyable to watch and Jeff was such a rad dude. He's truly passionate about driving and enjoying them. Tom Price is a true sir for letting the people enjoy that car.

I am 47 years old I have been in a number of Ferraris in my time 250 TDF is one of the most memorable automotive related moments i can recall. My Dad owned a 250 GTE for a while. What an incredible opportunity to ride in a GTO. Amazing torque delivery driving around in 3rd gear alone. What a car che Bella. PS its a 3.0 litre not a 2.5.

That’s a perfect mindset . Cars are built for people to enjoy. They’re meant to invoke emotions by being driven, not by being kept in storage. I’ve seen some historic Formula 1 racing at COTA in the past, but I’d love to attend a historic racing event as big as that someday, especially at Laguna Seca! Much love from Texas, y’all!

When it comes to the welds you have to remember they didn’t have liquid cooled square wave TIG, nor the modern gasses we have today. No those welds are most likely done with a torch and filler rod. I didn’t see the “sawing at the wheel” Larry was talking about, looked pretty effortless to me considering her age and tires

To the person creating the videos audio. I would ask that you actually run through this short exercise with your videos. 1. start the video 2. while the music is playing, turn the volume down until you can barely hear it 3. wait for the dialog to come in Did you notice you can't hear the dialog? It is really frustrating to be forced to monitor the volume while watching the videos. Try balancing the audio throughout the video. Imagine you are watching this video late at night and you don't want to wake anyone up. I have the volume just right (volume knob at 6) during the dialog portions. Suddenly, a huge burst of (unbalanced) music erupts. The music is so loud I have to turn the volume down (volume knob at 2). So I don't wake anyone. If the audio is done right one doesn't have t keep the remote in one's hand because parts of the audio blast off like a typical commercials volume. Please review your music and dialog levels and balance the entire video's audio. Thanks!

I appreciate your respect for this car. Most others offer glamour shots and use the word "awesome" in every sentence. You point out some of the lesser things that are actually interesting and important, like the crude-but-functional door hinges, and the nicely-done welds. Remember- the body on this car was hand-hammered into shape, not made on a roller machine. Then they applied filler, and finally paint.

The guys that designed cars like that didn't just think-up the design. They had the experience of dozens of other designers to build on. It's the same for the chassis and body builders. By sheer repetition, they got so good at forming metal, know how to make door hinges that didn't get bent, and worked smoothly ALL THE TIME, and sometimes they got a chance to trey something new that they knew would work, even though it was new. Like a cake makerthat makes edible art out of flour, butter, and eggs, these old guys made very functional ARFFT. These guys didn't need virtual reality or computers with vector graphics, because they KNEW what worked. My $5000 road bike, which weighs 18 LBs, steers with a finger, stops quickly with one finger on a lever, and just GOES.
