Great video once again Frank. You blow away all the myths I grew up with here in the UK back in the 70’s and I’m looking forward to getting back into the sport in the next year or so and putting your methods into action. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Pete.

Hi do you take the grit away a couple days before basketing or do you keep grit always available?
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
18 күн бұрын
Grit is always available to the race team. I never add fresh grit and minerals after Tuesday because the salt may dehydrate them. Usually I load the race team with fresh grit and minerals on day of return from the race and they have this all week.

You can see my mix here. The birds recover fast. I use a chlorine remover, little honey, Nubiotic Oregano, Roni and very lite vitamin and electrolytes. Water cannot be too concentrated with any of this stuff. Just a little bit. kzread.info/dash/bejne/a4Kq1sOHXa27d6w.html
Hi Frank can you help me my young birds want fly when they drop they are panting much appreciated thanks David
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
Ай бұрын
I do not worry about panting if the wattles are white and eyes are tight. My second bird home at 507 miles flying nearly 11.5 hours came home panting like crazy from the training toss the day before shipping. You would never think she would fly all day a few days later. See this video on panting and you will feel better. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y3WLpa2vabfbYrw.html

I hear alot of fanciers say the birds need to stretch their wings the next day or two, keeping them in for a week, do they not getting stiff muscles or as we call it in South Africa, "muscle bound". Just want to know if that is true or not
@brendanpowell6670
Ай бұрын
Frank doesn’t let them out. I prefer to do it like most do. I don’t think it hurts them at all to get out and stretch there wings. They will only fly if they want too is how I see it. If they don’t leave the loft to fly then there’s your answer. The birds tell you what they want or need.
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
Ай бұрын
It will not hurt them at all to keep them in nine or ten days after a big long flight. They must be fed the barley mix or they will get heavy and blow up like a ballon. Rest will allow the muscle to heal and recover. Couple training tosses and correct feeding and they are ready to fly all day long again. Watch this video. It gives step by step how I prepare and feed for the long distance. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qY2Lk6t6pNuxj7Q.html

Amazing Interesting that they can come back from such a distance I’ve taken my birds out on 15 miles and 30 mile toss and sometimes I lose them I took eight birds out on a 10 mile flight yesterday, and only Four birds return so far… It took them 2 to 3 hours to get back
@kerbyjackson88

Frank can chime in, but it's either the pigeons or the feeding. Some pigeons aren't suited for some terrain, but if you over feed, even good pigeons struggle if they're too fat. Go back and watch Frank's earlier videos and he explains the things that will give you some success.
@JonesRacingPigeons
Ай бұрын
@@kerbyjackson88 OK that makes sense. Thank you.
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
Ай бұрын
Kerby had some good points and could be many reasons why the birds are not returning. Feeding right and having the body nice and buoyant helps them fly effortlessly. You need to go slow adding distance and they should be flying well before you start training.
sir Frank,its okay if i use paddy rice instead of barley?
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

You can use Paddy Rice in place of barley
It would be great to see the birds trapping in from the race
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

Early this year I got some videos with them trapping. They trapped well for the 500 but they flew all day. 436 was in a dive from the wrong direction and landed right on the board. I think she may have made a big loop around a hawk or falcon.

Frank if sending to OLR what do you think is the ideal age for bird to fly the final
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
Ай бұрын
That is tough to say. I feel it is better if the birds are mature so send to the One Lofts when they first start receiving birds. Problem is no one has enough to send to all the races early. I send by the deadline in many cases and still do well. Usually, the pigeons are at least 6 months old before the final race. This was the last week to send to the CA Classic and Royal Cup. Sent my teams today. 6/4/24

Do you give them any protein formula other than the feed
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons

They eat the rich feeds and can take what they want day of return and next day for long distance. Plenty of fat before the long flights. High protein is not great for racing.

@@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons thank you Frank for this answer. I am from Pakistan where racing pigeon sport is making good progress. Here We see alot of fanciers that promote the use of protein based formulas by jose thone and other well known brands. Seeing the great performance by your birds and the feeding regimen you suggest, am I clear in my understanding that good quality pigeons can be flown to 700km without using any protein based formula.
what you share for the feeds and how to train did help me get until the last lap 557.67KM distance Race, my Bird came 7th Place, and that was a big achievement for a 3 years old newbie Fancier, that race has several sea crossing, the 2nd to the last lap was 446.67KM also sea crossing. it was a +100KM jump from the last liberation. i have my Birds weight at a good condition, this next season will be another race for my Hen hopefully her ranking will be good also...
