Rachmaninoff - Preludes in C Sharp Minor & G Minor
Музыка
Probably two of the most famous and beautiful preludes by Rachmaninoff performed by myself in Seoul Arts Center, the biggest concert hall in South Korea with over 2500 seats.
Here you can listen to Rachmaninoff Prelude in G Minor arranged for Piano and Orchestra:
• Rachmaninoff - Prelude...
The Prelude in C sharp minor op. 3 No. 2 became one of Rachmaninoff's most famous compositions. In the autumn of 1898, he made a tour of Western Europe and the United States, with a program that contained the Prelude. Soon after, London publishers brought out several editions with titles such as The Burning of Moscow, The Day of Judgement, and The Moscow Waltz. America followed suit with other titles, such as The Bells of Moscow.[3] It was so popular that it was referred to as "The Prelude" and audiences would demand it as an encore at his performances, shouting "C-sharp!"
The Prelude in G minor op. 23 No. 5 is second in popularity to the famous Prelude in C-sharp Minor. It is a vigorous composition with a wide dynamic range in march style except for the beautifully romantic and lyrical center section. It has been described as a "contrast of stern reality with a central episode of haunting, nostalgic lyricism; its beauty intensified by a second voice echoing the first" (Ashkenazy). Emil Gilels played this prelude at a front in World War II, in support for the Soviet military forces fighting in the war. The narrator says (in Russian): "Gilels is playing at the front, to remind us what the war is worth fighting for: Immortal music!"
Performed by Georgii Cherkin - piano

I would have loved to hear you perform this...I'm more of a singer, I'm a pianist of only the ability to play Bacharach (whom I adore)...but I lack the talent of the classics..
So smooth, light hands, strength & velocity.. was searching for that left Do sharp in the lower octave jump to Ti (near middle Do) octave in the mid part of the Agitato section.
What a fabulous pianist. ,I enjoy hours of listening

Your comment is very correct and clever 🎶
I have listened to a number of different pianists play the first song and your's is the best. Great control and emotion. In my opinion - better than Rubinstein 1950. The second song is also special. Thank you

+Larry Mitchell that's cool.. what a powerful friend... i think my imaginery friend sang more like "i love you, you love me, we're a happy fa-mi-ly" etc... needless to say i am now literally retarded. nah i jest.. but really i grew up hearing this also and it always resonated deeply... not so much as my mother's choice Chopin and Brahms repertoire...

"Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music." Sergei Vassilievitch Rachmaninoff
Liszt was a great composer for big piano works, but Rachmaninoff pours out soul-level feelings with a mournful beauty that, though Russian in sound, can nevertheless be universally understood and appreciated. He's more original than Liszt. Other opinions respected. This is just mine.

Having learned and performed many pieces by both Liszt and Rachmaninoff I have to agree. I find Liszt writes a lot of hallow chords with his obsession of fifths. Liszt is fun to play and Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 is fun to show off in front of street crowds, but Rachmaninoff I find very serious. Beethoven as well. Mozart could write anything, but loved major keys and at times sounds very, "gay."

Absolutely amazing !! In my opinion the best pianist I have ever heard ! There is beauty in all the music he plays! I hope to one day see him play in person
Truly amazing interpretation of Rach's two best preludes. Love it!
This is beautiful through so many ways, starting with the pianist!
Fantastic performance. My two favourites!
Its this kind of music played well that you actually feel the emotions attached to it. Pure Art.
The prelude in C sharp minor 3:50 minutes -- was the first Rachmaninoff piano I ever heard. The somber dignity and simplicity drew into his concertos. Bravo, bravisimo!
We always enjoy your performances. Thanks.
Thank you Georgii for uploading your videos. I listen to it while working. Love it!!
Your performances never disappoint us. ❤❤
Awesome. Thank you, Rachmaninoff for all of your beautiful music.

Amazing, I really love the 2nd piano concert of Rachmaninoff, and the best way it played I heard is yours - and now you uploaded the c# prelude: many thanks!

There are aspects of Kissins performance that I prefer over this one like his ability to be more reserved in the beginning and his overall expression but I do like the full sound and the exploding at the climactic parts.
+Katie B - yes! I remember playing this piece at age 14. What a gem it is!
