Rachele - Dirty Movies (US, 1983)

12" single on the 80s NYC label SOS (Syndicate of Soul). Aside from this club-ready, sexed-up synth pop by Rachele, SOS gave the world a handful of releases. One of the more curious ones is Mitch Ryder's "Good Gollie Ask Ollie," a 12" maxi-single with a re-imagining of "Good Golly, Miss Molly," a 1966 chart hit for Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. Twenty-one years and four presidents later, Ryder is costumed in military fatigues and skewering Iran-Contra affair protagonists Oliver North and Ronnie Raygun with his lyrics. Great fun for all, except Reagan apologists perhaps. Paul Shaffer and the Letterman Band act as Ryder's backing band and allegedly set this whole gag / statement in motion. Long way of saying, I don't know a hell of a lot about Rachele beyond the fact this song is far more to my tastes and interests than her late-80s major label LP.
