Rachel Blanchard, from her early beginnings to Clueless

Here is a short editing which combines some file footage with the excerpt from an interview of Rachel Blanchard in which she sums the start of her career up, and tells in a few words how she was hired for the TV series Clueless.
In the FLARE Magazine February 2001 issue, she said:
"I was about five years old and in a junk store with my mom at our cottage in Northern Ontario. The owner of The Littlest Hobo was there and they were looking for a little girl for the show. He gave my mom the name of an agent and, eventually, I talked her into letting me meet with them. It was my first role.
Clueless was the first thing that brought me to the States. I sent an audition tape and they flew me down for a screen test and then it just kind of happened."

I am very happy anyway that Joey was able to live his adventures for two seasons, surrounded by endearing characters interpreted by an excellent cast. And very happy that Rachel had the chance to work with Matt on an episode. She has a great sense of comedy, as evidenced by her performance in Call Me Fitz. It's a shame her role of Joelle didn't become a recurring character on the show.

I totally agree! I find the way she approached her role made the character of Cher more complementary to Dionne (Stacey Dash's role) than the way Alicia Silverstone played Cher in the movie version (even though Alicia was awesome anyway and is such a talented actress).

@@rachelblanchardfilmography yes Alicia’s is much more harsher. I seen the movie first and loved it and was like why isn’t it the same actress but the way Rachel played her and I guess the tv show writers just made the character so much better and more to what Cher is suppose to be like. She isn’t a mean girl and I seen an interview that Alicia took inspiration from a mean girl she knew.

Yes, I completely agree with you. Cher played by Rachel is much more in the spirit of empathy. Do you know the French romantic comedy film named "Amélie"? This film dates from 2001. The main actress, Audrey Tautou, plays the title role, a young girl named Amélie, who does not always have confidence in herself and who tries to help everyone, sometimes forgetting to help herself. I find that the way Rachel plays Cher has similarities with the character of Amélie. Cher by Rachel is sweet, sometimes naive, sometimes a little disconnected from reality, but always very caring and eager to make people happy. I didn't know Alicia was inspired by a real mean person. You teach me something!
