This video was three minutes of my life I will never regret. I’ve been reading the same few lines in my textbook for the past hour, and it didn’t make sense. This video made everything clear. Thank you so much!

The reason I watched this video is that it was 10yrs old and I think people of that time will explain to me much better than today's teacher.😊

so since we get a net rotation = zero, that's explains why the racemic compounds are optically inactive. Thanks for those amazing videos :)

That is correct. They undo what each did. This paradigm is created by polarity. You need a crack or imperfection in the reflection to grow.

So to clarify, in a racemic mixture you need to have two different enantiomers (R and S). Can a racemic mixture consist of the same compound but with two chiral centers that have opposite rotation?

wouldn't it be random though? i mean, this mixture would not rotate light, but only if , in the direction of a passing photon, there is an even ammount of "left-handed" and "right-handed" enantiomers but what if a single additional molecule is at the end of the pathway, opposite from the previous one, wouldn't that end up rotating the light so if your pathway is something like LRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLR nothing happens, but if it's LRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL the light gets polarized, as if a single L molecule existed, and all the previous alternating LR cycle ment nothing i imagine over a large volume of mixure, it wold produce light of both polarizations
