People just do not get this and make out that we shouldn’t be slower at doing things than an able-bodied person. I would love to be able to have a chair like yours.

Yes, the way disability makes everything that little bit harder - that's what people don't get

Disability makes everything way harder. People take a shower & leave the house. I need to make sure I have all my meds, food in case of sugar drop, check tires of wheelchair & put air in THEN take shower which takes waaaay longer. Then there is still a longer list to get into the car with chair loaded. It's exhausting. I just don't get everything done that I want to every day.

@@carriecleary9650 I do understand this especially the time needed to process with everything that is why I do not rush. As a student going with bus I do wake as early as possible (5am ) to cover up for everything needed before bus come so it not easy but I do my best

It should be a mandatory class in school to experience how complicated tasks are with a disability.

Nope, someone who does not need a wheelchair does not understand what it takes by sitting on it. What we need is respect: we do things how we do, as anybody else

Those videos are very educational and I really like them! For me as a wheelchair user I actually develop more compassion with myself for how much more harder everything has become. And it’s good for non-disabled people to just see like behind the scenes of the daily life.

Otherwise it could become a projectile 😮

@@Patriot-dew I don't secure mine to be honest... I also put it upside down tho, I don t see it sliding anywhere. Might be wrong and need to start doing it tho...

I use a bungee cord for mine - I couldn't reach the seatbelt on the other side of the car. But it's very much the "projectile" thought. I'm still wondering if I should disable the passenger airbag, to be honest. But the bungee makes me feel better about it staying where it should be if I'm ever in an accident (and I want it protected - don't want to lose my "legs" on top of being in an accident.

Thank you Gem! For showing what it actually means to just “pop to the shops” in a wheelchair ….you forgot the part when you try to find a blue badge bay but someone is abusing it because they need to go to atm/deliver a package/don’t want their cars damaged so want a larger bay ……so you have to either wait for them to come back and move whilst throwing abuse at you for making “them” feel bad/guilty …. or just leave it and go back home 🤭🤣😂🤭

Oh goodie, I have abuse for making selfish idiots feel bad to look forward to. Not had that yet - most either scurry away until I've gone, or adamantly refuse to make eye contact at all.

Actually, for a paraplegic, everything takes 5 to 7x times as long. Bathroom? Dressing? Yup.

I am actually still impressed that you got in the car by yourself took your wheelchair apart by yourself and was about to go. that takes a lot of strength in your arms. Which I don’t have so congratulations.

I can’t transfer in and out of a car and it’s not because I wouldn’t be physically able to. It’s the shape of my wheelchair. It’s also the car door doesn’t open out far enough to get my chair up closer to the seat of the car. I see so many people with neat wheelchairs that don’t take up a lot of space which mine does
