    I was 9 years old during the summer of ‘98 and it was a summer I’ll never forget. Life goes quick and people come & go but I’ll always cherish that particular summer and the great memories and the time I spent with people that I wish were still around today. The ballgames with my father, playing MLB The Show with cousins, pretending to be Big Mac while playing whiffle ball with my neighborhood friends, and staying up late with my sister in order to steal the TV remote, flip to ESPN, and see who took the homer in lead... These were great times with some great people who shaped my personality for the rest of my life. Say what you want about steroids but these two were a galvanizer for many people. That magical summer brought a lot of joy & optimism to this world and I just want to thank them for being a part of my childhood. This is what sports is about.

    I was 9 as well and this summer made me fall in love with baseball again, for awhile at least, I don't care about the steroid use because everyone was on em. For those too young to remember, these two guys saved baseball. the strike of 1994 and the subsequent cancellation of the World Series, set the stage for the terminal decline of baseball. But Lo and Behold, a few years later these two guys packed the ball parks. They had us watching the evening news (!) to see if either "Went Yard". Both men were class acts, cheering each other on. We were all amazed to see it happen. We all saw Maris in sight. Should Sosa and McGwire be in the Hall?? We will always debate it. But I will say this, we all owe them a debt for saving the game we love.

    I remember this time pretty clearly. I remember the whole Andro thing and how he just said matter of factly that he bought it over the counter and it’s not illegalI. He was right. It wasn’t banned or anything in MLB. This season was special. It was about more than baseball. McGwire paid the ultimate respect to Maris’ family which even brought Roger Maris to the forefront for what he accomplished and what he had to deal with. I mean is Maris the only 2x MVP that’s not in the Hall of Fame? Not counting Bonds. It’s ridiculous. McGwire was humble and Sosa was fun. The entire U.S. was pulling for them. I remember where I was watching it on TV when he broke the record. Even the next year he hit 65 and Sosa hit 63. Even though it was broken by Bonds in 2001 rather impressively, it wasn’t the same. Not the same at all.

    Also, Griffey hit 50+ hr several times, not just one or two lucky seasons. he was always a monster, and he almost always faded late in season due to exhaustion. It was common for Griffey JR. to be at 30 HR at all star time, he just didn't juice so his endurance faded late season and he always faded off.

Until 1961 the league only consisted of 16 teams condensed mostly on the East Coast. So schedule was arguably a little easier as well. Regardless of that, neither of those guys played the field with such energy sacrificing their bodies in the field. Griffey was a 10x gold glove center fielder. Besides Willie Mays, name me another pure home run hitter who also happened to be a 5 tool player almost their whole career? I'll wait... And that is why Jr. was such a special player.

If that's what your saying your as dumb as a bag of fucking rocks, Hank I'm sure took some cortisone shots which is a steroid but it's not a performance enhancing one, Mark McGuire was stacking, when your stacking your sticking a needle in your ass and your also taking them orally, it's a high octane of juice being put into ones body making you so much stronger and alot bigger, dude you are so clueless, sit down and stop making an ass of yourself

  • @paysonfox88

    @paysonfox88

    5 жыл бұрын

    Greg Maddux was a control GOD. Roided or not, you can't hit what you can't see. Now we got only 2 hopes for a natural 60 HR season. Giancarlo Stanton and Joey Gallo. I won't accept people saying Gallo isn't legit. Why? He plays HR derby in every single game. His whole game plan is all or nothing, and his team has accepted that. He's a guy who hits .200 with 40 of 80 hits being HR in 2 different seasons. The only thing keeping him on the field is the fact that he knows the K-zone so well that he walks 100 times too . He might be the first person in MLB history to end his career with more HR than singles. Right now he just hit his 100th HR vs 93 career singles. AKA -- when he hits singles, it's a mistake. If that man ever gets his average up to say .260 or .270 -- that would give him 120 or more hits, and 60+ HR the way he plays. Think of the HR as a 3-point shot in NBA. Before 2010 or so, the 3-pointer wasn't used as a primary weapon. It was only after the Warriors and Rockets put in the work and based their games around it, that the shot was used as a first option in each game., Gallo is going to hit 60 HR legit someday. It's the Rocket's 3pt shot mentality -- he's trained himself to take and make 3 pointers as a first option. He's going up to the plate, not to hit the ball where it's pitched, but to hit the ball into the stands as a first choice.
