Raccoon Tenants Living Inside A Shed

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Watch how we humanely removed a family of raccoons from our customer's shed!
We often get asked the question, "why not leave them there?" In this case our customer was concerned having the raccoons live so close to his home. They had taken over his shed preventing him from using any of his stored items in there and was afraid of being bit.
Update: I want to thank everyone for their concern about the baby raccoon we put up the tree. It is nice to see that you care about the animals as much as we do. As we were leaving the baby began to vocalize and we caught a glimpse of the mother raccoon poking her head out from under the neighbors shed. While we didn’t see her go collect the baby I am confident she got him after we left.

Their temperaments vary! I have live traps on my property to catch possums and feral cats. Every now and again I catch a coon. Some will just sit there while you open the door and let them out and some will be jumping at the door scaring the crap out of you while you're trying to get the latch!

I know you know WAY more about raccoons than I do. But I watch all your videos and even though raccoon moms are VERY maternal, there's been a few times the mom didn't come back for her baby/babies. So he did go into trap last night (he was spilling our garbage no matter what can we bought lol) and he also liked to go night swimming every night in our pool around 1am!!!!! So we took him or her and released him into a forest preserve abt 2 miles away. So thank you SO MUCH for ur informative channel!!!!!

I wish you would of went a diffrent route like the fox urine route instead of relocating. I'm only worried because you are unsure of it's sex. What if it was a mama & had her babies in a local den & was just looking for food to feed her KITS. And swim to cool off.. Please if you ever trap again please try flipping trap to check to see if the raccoon has teats or Balls. My heart is just aching just thinking of the possibility the little tiny wee ones might be Waiting For Mama to return. I'm not bashing you in anyway. Im happy you relocated opposed to what other people do (kill em) .. Please try Fox Urine in the future. It really works.. I live in a mobile home with my elderly mother and she had a problem with raccoons so bad that they have ripped out her entire floor boards we tried fox urine and Bam they were gone. Good Luck & God Bless..

@@joanna7538able We didnt see if it was a girl or boy because he wasnt far enough up on his front legs but we cld see it wasnt a nursing racoon. It didnt have any nursing nipples on its belly so we are assuming it was a boy and if it was a girl she wasnt nursing anything. So i assure you there were NO BABIES left behind. We are smarter than that. But thank you for worrying. And NO that raccoon was scared enough I will NOT flip the cage over, he was already freaking out that he was in a cage. We tilted it up to make sure there was no nursing nipples that was fine. My husband and I we all grew up on farms around here so we know what to do and not do. They go and do what they want. So YES we rehomed him. Now if in the future we were to get a nursing mother look at the channel we are writing our comments on....do you think i would EVER take a mother away from her babies to starve to death. No!!!! Also that is illegal in the state of Missouri April thru August to relocate a nursing fm raccoon. So dont worry. We have it under control.

I recently became a raccoon father in late April, the mom went missing and they were in my heater flu that was thankfully not being used, they were approximately 20ish days old, eyes had just opened...I have been teaching them to crawl dad hunt, they can find bugs on their own and I'm following advice given as best I can, but my ultimate goal is to rehab/release them in a local state park that is protected, My question is how can I tell when they are ready?

hey. I think the owner could have just waited a little longer and then the raccoons would have disappeared anyway. You didn't see the mother aggressively or anything like that. Find something too bad. Do not try to talk to the people or explain that they will let the raccoons go and then they will go by themselves. I hope the little baby is doing well and the mother was able to bring it to safety.

These homeowners who keps such a messy shed, didn't even bother cleaning it and...a lovely family of raccoons disturbs them? Furthermore I don't like that you guys make raccoons relocate, I think you should sell to these homeowners boxes as new nests and relocate babies and mother yourself!!

I love raccoons, both wild & urban dwelling. When urban dwelling raccoons are removed from one nest site & the mom gets reunited with the babies (the Box) what if they relocate to someone else's property? It seems that although the original nest site is vacated it then could become someone else's problem. The raccoons move another persons property.

I love raccoons i think they are the most adorable animals ever. I would have let mom stay in the shed with her babies she would have moved on as soon as the babies where old enough to forage with mom around 3 months old and they looked to be about 2 months old. They really wasnt hurting anything ti stay in that shed and they were very safe in their from other animals that prey on raccoons. I have a raccoon that I take care of. She showed up on my back deck as a small baby with no mom around. I would feed the baby and she lives under my shed. She came out every night to get food then goes back under the shed. She's now been at the my house for almost 2 yrs she comes to my sliding glass door every evening looking for her food. Shes very calm gentle she take food from me slowly and gently but i do not pet her, not even as a baby. I just want to keep her as wild as possible. I dont would want her to be to friendly to humans. Because humans pose the biggest danger to raccoons. A friendly raccoon could be see as acting strange and people would think she had rabies. Specially if shes out during the day hours. Most ppl think if they see a raccoon during the day it has rabies and thats not true. The momma raccoons come out during the day to eat and drink and use the bathroom because they are nursing. They need extra water and food to produce milk for their babies. Plus momma raccoons dont like to be to far away from their babies at night. so forging for food is harder for them. So they take advantage of day time to make up the difference. Anyways my little raccoon has babies now she had her babies under my shed she started bring them out to eat with her almost 2 weeks ago she has 4 babies and they are so cute of course I feed them too with mom. This is her second litter the babies last time did not stick around once they were all on their own. So Im guessing these babies will be the same but I do think her last babies still come around from time to time to catch a free dinner lol.... You can normally tell when a raccoon has babies because the moms hair around her backside is messy from laying down a lot and nursing. Mom's also gets a strong musky smell. I wouldnt say stinks but a strong animal musky smell. I can smell the musk through the glass door maybe my nose is just sensitive to that smell. Lol Im not sure where this wild life rescue is located but I was wondering if you know about the Bait Vaccine that some states throw out for raccoons foxes skunks and coyotes? They can grab a packet bite into it and as soon as they bite into the packet they get some of the vaccine and are then vaccinate from rabies and distemper. Im trying to find a way to get my raccoon vaccinated. I worry about her being in the wild. It would break my heart to see her sick with rabies knowing she would have to be put down. This is another reason I do not pet her or get that close to her in case she is sick. I do check on her every night thru the glass door. Im looking for any signs of her being sick from distemper or rabies. Both diseases are deadly to the raccoon. Anyways I want to find a way to vaccinate her. The bait vaccine would be perfect cause i dont think she would like riding in a car to the vet. Plus no vet will see a wild raccoon around here. So if you have any solutions for me to getting her vaccinate please let me know... I do have a lot of wild animals around my place because I live in the country with lots of woods and farms. There are many raccoons skunks foxes and coyotes around my area. If i could get some bait vax I would put baits out all over the wooded area to vaccinate the animals. I think these bait shouls be made available to the public who are willing to help distribute the baits to vaccinate got rabies this would go a long ways to eliminating rabies hopefully forever but at least bring the number way down and hopefully rabies would be totally gone in the near future... Thank you for showing these little guys much kindness and a gentle hand you guys did a wonderful job...
