I've been researching this today because I believe that I do have a squirrel that is exhibiting the neurological symptoms of the raccoon roundworm. This is actually quite horrifying! The only way to really get rid of the eggs is to burn them! Otherwise if you touch any kind of raccoon scat you need to touch it with something you can immediately throw away Don't pick it up with your hand if you pick it up with gloves throw the gloves away... Raccoons like to use just like cats they like to use sandboxes. So if you have a child with a sandbox make sure it has a cover so that nothing can get into the sand. Or any sandy area where a child likes to play.

Yes & no..... That happened to our pool & the pool maintenance company wanted to charge us $6,000....So we bought a better pump & filter. Sanitized the hell out of it, vacuumed the floor, used a net. Then covered it for 3days. Must have worked cuz none of us got infected. Although we didn't know for sure if the raccoons passed feces in pool. Theres was a big raccoon family of five that came every night, til I got rid of them & bought a way better pool cover (they ripped the first 3).....but just in case, we cleaned the hell out of it.

when science says "rare" they often mean it's rarely found or diagnosed . apparently more than 50% of adult racoons carry the parasites . the worlds racoon population is growing
