Alan had all the answers, but not a one question for the esteemed Rabbi. IMHO, he is not a mevakesh. Rather, he relies on his own perceived intellect and thus allows ambiguities to remain ambiguities. He posits that he is very “Jewish” but not a “theologian.” Maimonedes, Rabeinu Shmuel Hanagid, the Rif, Rebbi, R’ Samson Rafael Hirsch, the Maharal, and many others, were intellectual theologians who were faithful adherents to the very end. The seeming dichotomies are most certainly reconcilable with enough studying and introspection.

Rabbi Jacobson - thank you for the interview but why didn't you ID Dersh as a distinguished retired professor of criminal law at Harvard Law School?

Interesting interview. However, tzarat, mistakenly translated as leprosy, was not communicable. The person had to go outside the camp and announce "tamei" to all those around so that it would be known that he or she had committed the aveira of lashon hara. Speaking lashon hara, rechilut, shem ra and other offenses of the tongue separates us and this was the lesson of isolating those stricken with tzarat. (he did reveal that he reads the Kings James version of the "Old Testament"). Sadly, we are repeating this offense quite a bit these days, and separating ourselves even more.

His rabbi as a child was right to say he had the mouth. He is a great lawyer! I deeply respect this man Dershowitz, but he sadly lacks wisdom. He was talking with rabbi YY and sadly had all the answers, but not a single question. He met the Rebbi of blessed memory but didn’t ask a single question. He acknowledges being an angry man but no insight into its damage to his nefesh. 82 is not too old for teshuvah. It’s not too late to change. He suffers from a lack of humility. First step; study, learn and develop a sense of awe of HaShem. May you Alan Dershowitz be blessed with irat HaShem

Rabbi YY Jacobson should also have taken this opportunity to quickly convince Professor Alan Dershowitz to believe in Jewish observance and remove the cynicism from him and oppose the secularism of the Israeli freedom fighters based on the divine Torah!

I’m very curious whose house you go to that has flower pot separating the men and women. I have been Chabad for nearly 20 years and I’ve never seen that! We all sit at the same table together. Usually men on one side of the table and women on the other but not always. And since I spent 30 successful years in the entertainment industry, I’m pretty well-versed in the secular world.

Rabbi Jacobson, you act like a guest in your own home. How do you let Professor Dershowitz speak with such kefirah and not rebut or rebuke him? What do you stand for? I have heard you speak many times and you are never short of insight or inspiration, what exactly do you accomplish by giving him a platform for his anti-mesorah rhetoric? You have a responsibility to present and educate your precious audience with authentic teachings and to answer his questions with the Torah's teachings. Unfortunately, you failed and missed a golden opportunity to stand up and help him deal with his self imposed doubts about G-d. At least say something when he said that Justice Ginsburg of sainted memory only recognized one day of Rosh Hashanah...May we all show love and kindness to our fellow brothers and sisters, but not fool ourselves with a false sense of piety when we fail to call it like it is.

Rabbi Jacobson, I understand that you have to be very nice and polite up your guests, however you can't let them say their piece of kefira and not respond. Yes, Mr Dershowitz, Hashem will punish the skeptics. Yes yes and yes. With proofs throughout our long history. Please don't let a chillul HaShem come from these interviews and if there is even a slight chance of this happening, please skip it for His Sake.
