Rabbi YY Jacobson: How Did the Rebbe Revolutionize Judaism?

In this episode of the 18Forty Podcast, we talk to renowned Chabad speaker Rabbi YY Jacobson about Chassidus, Chabad, and the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
In honor the Rebbe’s 30th yahrtzeit, YY Jacobson helps us explore the purpose of Creation, our role in the world, and how the soul of the universe relates to the soul of the human being. In this episode we discuss:
-What is Hasidic thought, and what differentiates it from Kabbalah?
-How did Jewish emancipation and integration lead to Jews turning inward and focusing on the soul and God’s Presence in the world?
-What was the Rebbe’s understanding of messianism and Zionism, and what might it mean for how we live our lives?
Tune in to hear a conversation about how the Rebbe brought oneness to the Jewish People during some of our most turbulent times.
Rabbi YY Jacobson, founder and dean of TheYeshiva.net, is a popular teacher of Chabad Chassidus. Having been an “oral scribe” of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Jacobson was a close follower of the Rebbe in the last stages of the Rebbe’s life. Rabbi Jacobson has additionally been the editor-in-chief of The Algemeiner Journal and the spiritual leader of Congregation Bais Shmuel.

Rabbi JJ. I think as a fundamental foundational understanding of what chassidic philosophy is. The bases what ChaBaD is about. It’s understanding mindset of what’s it’s all about. Honestly you can continue and should continue this topic/subject. It’s so important. Thank you so much for this.

I very much enjoyed the beginning of the podcast. Great questions! I particularly liked the question about why Chasidis started when it did if it is so fundamental.

I once jokingly commented at shul that Israel already had a constitution - it's called Torah. Nobody agreed but I still think I had a point.

1:00:00 While the Shulchan Arukh may be incredible for preventing charismatic people from liberalizing judaism, I think there are very little safe guards to prevent judaism from becoming more extreme. Unfortunately, I feel that this is a growing reality that often scares me. Additionally, the Shulchan Arukh does not focus on how we treat people which is more important and fundamental in authentic jewish practice.

I have been a Shliach of the Rebbe for 48 years. After hearing and watching so many interviews, it becomes painful hearing the interviewer, the one being interviewed, and reading the comments. The essence, main point that is necessary to discuss, is not brought up, but is ignored totally. This should stop immediately for the sake of klal Yisrael. Shabbat Shalom

I for one think this is an incredible interview. It is above and beyond what I can expect from most Roshei Yeshivah and Rabanim the world over. Rabbi Jacobson is a Gadol. A true Gadol. I am curious as to what is it that you found missing in this discussion and what you would like him to discuss

The answer is that having a clear vision of what it is we are working toward makes all the difference in the quality of our work and the effort we invest in it. Hashem wants us to serve Him in an inspired way; He wants our vision, our goals to be His vision His goals. Ideally, Hashem wants us to dream about what He dreams about; this is why He shares with us His dream for the Moshiach. Learn, discuss the Moshiach and the Redemption. We will then be able to form a clear picture in our mind of what the world is really meant to be and how we can make this dream a reality. The last miftzah we hear was to ' M'kabel p'nei Moshiach Tzidkeinu b'poel Mamash'. Just be a m'kabel. Hatzlachah Rabbah. Sorry it took me a while to answer, I was in the hospital.
