Now, that's a job done properly. Is the oil cooler still fine to continue another 15years and the various pulleys since you got the engine out? Just asking because I plan on doing the same thing when my car hits 250k km. My car has 195k km, still runs mint, clutch, gearbox selector bushes all in great shape. Oil changes every 4-6 months at least. Rear & front main seals weeping a little. Had the ubiquitous crackpipe leak which I had repaired a couple years ago with aluminium fittings instead of the stock plastic bits. Great work & greetings from Auckland mate.

Thanks for watching 😁 these engines don't really have any oil cooler problems, it'll be an ideal time to do the seals while its out, I renewed the rear main while it accessible on this one. Theres not really anything else common on these that you haven't got covered 👍

It is pretty in depth! I don't think you guys would hang around watching a 8 hour video though 🤣

Is necessarily to take the cam sprocket to do the job?

It's an amazing video. I've noticed u used Elring main seal which comes with that white sleeve. You've taken it off, is it easier to use the sleeve or intall the seal without it? Also, did you put the sealant on the upper timing cover all the way around the coolant gasket? Cheers

Thanks for watching 😁 all the parts used here were Genuine VW, the plastic cente is mostly to keep the seal perfectly round while in packaging. I prefer to fit it without, just so you can see clearer it's going on nicely. And yes I put sealer on all the flat faces 👍

@@SuperRon I'm super nervous when it comes to put the sealant on. I will be doing it in few days. Would you be able to upload 1 video in normal motion and explain of way you doing this task on this engine. I would appreciate. Thanks

These are filmed in timelapse so there isn't normal speed footage. I have done another R32 timing chain video which goes a little more in detail, have you seen it?

Ron do you know if a c20xe is a direct swap in the astra mk3 1.7 diesel, in terms of wiring?

  • @SuperRon

I did put a c20xe in my mk3 1.7d van about 15 years ago but I cant remember if it was plug and play or not. I remember doing a bit of rewiring but not sure if that was because it was out of a mk2 🤔

@@SuperRon my c20xe astra runs on an MS2 and I am looking to transfer my redtop setup to a two door astra but the one I found has a diesel engine in it. Was looking on your old threads on the mk3oc forums and found some photos of a round plug near the battery that you used in your conversion. Not sure if thats where the ecu wires terminate or if they go under the drivers footwell like in the standard petrol mk3..

@@Heisenberg92 I think the engine loom with the ecu is all self contained in itself and the round plug is where it connects to the car for live, earth, rev counter etc. Its been so long you're probably more more familiar for recapping the thread!

@@Heisenberg92 thinking about it yes I think that was the case, the mk3 xe loom connects to the little plugs by the ECU, and the mk2 xe connects by the battery, as does the mk3 diesel, hence why I connected it there

@@SuperRon so in my case i shall extend the ms2 wiring to the diesel main plug next to the battery
