I had the same problem with Yz250Fx. The starter MOtor spins but not starting. Saw this video and you are right the timing marks corrected the issue. NOw, my bike is starting sweet.

why does it solve the issue? it goes in the starter clutch gear so when its spinning, its spinning no?

If its not lined up it will still spins but will spin freely and wont start the bike.

I made the video to warn others about the mistake I did. Here is what happened. When bike did not start initially, I took the bike apart and found that One of the two long starter bolt was completely unscrewed from its housing. So It would spin but no start. I put the starter together without aligning the marks. And still run into same issue where, it spin but did not start the bike. I got pissed and ordered new starter. Finally again took the bike apart, put the new starter in, and discovered that marks on old starter were not aligned up. Hence, giving me no start condition. I ended up installing new starter since I had it on me but, all my old original starter needed was proper assembly keeping alignment marks in mind. Hardest part of the job is, removing and installing throttle body hose to its assembly.

@@Saady2s the throttle body is really really har to take it out, the position of the bolts are really crazy haha. Now I'm taking out the starter and just waiting to the now to put it on and pray to solve this problem. The first start always goes well but if the bike take temperature the engine can't turn on, just listen a slow starter engine. With the new I think that the issue will be repaired.

Mine just makes a click sound when I press the start button.

Check the battery voltage, Should be 12.6 volts or up. If it is, start taking it apart and inspect starter. Best wishes!

@@toniod.mitchell1396 Yes especially IF the sound is coming from Rely. But like I said, check the battery first.

I know its been 2 years but to check the relay there is a sketchy trick i learnt. Use a screwdriver and touch both sides of the terminals on the relay. It should bypass the relay and start the bike. If the bike starts it means its a faulty relay. If it dosent, it means its another issue
