DST didnt exist until 1918. Humans can live without it, if an adjustment was needed they can move the clock without moving the schedules. If your shift started at 3, now it starts at 4

Yeah, my cousins actually live in a country without DST. Their shifts start with the sunrise for most jobs, so the time they have to get to work is constantly changing. And they couldn’t wrap their head around the idea of DST because it was such a foreign idea to them.

Daylight savings time isn't really relevant thease days. Back then it allowed to save on candles but now we have LED lighting so work during late hours is no problem. Time change does disrupt peoples inner clock and lowers productivity and can cause accidents, because some person didn't get a good nights sleep due to time change. Edit: Leap year is every 4 years since its almost 365,25 days in a year.

Technically, Daylight Savings Time is only actually used in the United States (except Arizona), Canada (except for a few of their state replacements), a quarter of Australia, New Zealand, UK, Greenland and the European Union. You know who doesn't use it? the other 65+% of the world

Fellow Iowan here, can confirm that the roads are shit most of the time. Every road eventually gets repaired at some point, but never at the same time as the other roads and before you know it, the road is in disrepair again.

DST was set up for farmers to get the maximum amount of daylight during spring/summer. It has nothing to do with keeping the year in balance. It was literally for Farmers, so when they got up at 4am, it was Dawn.

Turns out that's a myth. The farmers were scapegoated. It was soldiers wanting to save on fuel.

Leap years(first observed 45 BC) actively fix the calendar, while DST (first observed 1908) was meant to shift peoples schedules to just maximize daylight and is not necessary for any calendar functions

Exactly. you turn the clock back again after having turned it forward about half a year later.... there's no calendar stability in that. Also most countries use the metric system, Nate.... what in the heck doesn't work on it when it cuts everything into 100 bits rather than 'this is 2.5cm long and we call it an inch.' Only reason America uses the Imperial systems is cuz of Britain back in the day adopting it to unify prior arbitrary measurement formats, such as how a 'foot' was originally a person's footlength, which of course varies depending on the person. Only reason it hasn't gone over to the Metric in america is TWO reasons - Time & Money. There's no functional reasoning beyond that, especially when majority of countries does NOT use that measurement system anymore.

It does make sense, when you realize that DST is just to ensure that most people can shop after work and also drive to/from work without it getting really dark or too bright depending on the season. In an area without DST, the time people have to get to work is constantly changing over the year. I know because I have cousins who have to get up at 6 in the winter and then 7:30 in the summer and thus have to shift around alarms and when they eat dinner or go out, etc. DST is what allows people in places like America to be able to have a work schedule and also a life schedule that doesn’t change because the sun is rising or setting at drastically different times.

As an Arizonian I will say it's great not having to worry about DST, because fuck DST

Not going to lie, chocolate ice-cream is not one I would willingly eat. Strawberry is more subtle while every chocolate cream I had tasted like melted syrup. Its to the point where I prefer strawberry milk over choco and even sometimes normal milk. Flame me for being unpopular but chocolate ice cream and milk is not good to me anymore. I genuinely like strawberry.

I know this is from a year ago, but I need to correct your DST interpretation. No, DST is not what the world runs on. The world runs on UTC, which does not adjust by an hour. It is far from the same as leap years. It was created to try to align the time of day so "morning" is always about the same time, not to adjust for drift over time. It fails at that too, though, and is a nightmare for anything else. If you see DST on your clock somewhere, it's being converted from UTC. If you have a standalone clock that syncs, that's why there's a "DST" switch on it, because it has to correct. The way we track smaller deviations than the leap year accounts for (which is more complicated than "every x years" anyway, because that is also pretty far from right), is through leap seconds, which allow systems to make tiny, constant corrections. Another thing - One way I've heard to describe the difference between the metric system and the imperial system (which neither of those names are the "right" ones anyway, the US uses Customary, not Imperial, and the metric system is an alternate name for the SI system that includes more prefixes of units as standard units, among other things) - is the Imperial system is based on average humans, while the metric system is based in math and the universe. Even the imperial/customary system is currently defined in terms of the metric system. The metric system is far better for most technical applications, and doesn't hurt for most non-technical applications. The primary reason we still use the other system in the US is just that it would be really expensive and time consuming to update all of our important documents. You can find all of these things just by simple searches (honestly I'm surprised at how wrong you are about these even without that), and verify them with only slightly more detailed searches. I recommend doing that, if you haven't at some point after this video was released.

So I think the point of Neopolitan ice cream having the strawberry layer is that the slight tartness of the strawberry is supposed to be relief from the two more sweet flavors. However most 'strawberry' ice creams you get now are mainly artificial strawberry flavor unless you spring for the good brands. As for it being pink, that's because when you mix the white plain ice cream base with the red strawberries... well, you get it. XD If you want a good brand of ice cream that's really creamy "Tillamook" is my favorite and they use real fruit in their fruit flavored ice creams.

I'm sorry, Nate, but I hate vanilla flavor in ANYTHING, especially when I found out the flavor is made from Castoreum, which comes from a gland near a beaver's ANUS!! It's the ingredient that's also on the label of any product that has "natural flavoring." Castoreum has been traditionally used in Sweden for flavoring a variety of schnapps commonly referred to as "Bäverhojt," which means "beaver shout." I swear, if it didn't help honey production in apiaries, I'd say get rid of that stuff. The only reason we use it in food is because it's so cheap, whereas vanilla is one of the top two most expensive spices in the world. The other most expensive one being saffron.
