R. Vaishali scores 5 wins in a row and finishes joint second in her first Candidates
Спорт
It was the first Candidates appearance for R. Vaishali as she came to Toronto. She started slowly and after 9 rounds was in the last position with 2.5/9. Little did she know what was in store for her. She scored 5.0/5 and finished joint 2nd with 7.5/14 at the Candidates. We interview Vaishali to understand what really changed that helped her to beat Salimova, Goryachkina, Muzychuk, Lei Tingjie and Lagno!

Both Vaishali and Humpy's powerful comeback to 2'nd place was awesome to witness. As an Indian this is very overwhelming.
Vaishali reminds me of Gukesh from 1-2 years ago. Super strong, capable of beating anyone on his day, stringing together big win streaks, but also having many unexpected losses. Looking at Gukesh's performance in Chennai GM and of course Candidates, it seems like he has found the fine balance between going for the kill when the opportunity arises but also knowing when to be solid. Let's hope Vaishali can also find this balance soon and then I believe she will be a monstrously strong, unstoppable player. Overall great performance from her finishing joint 2nd in her first Candidates

I followed Vaishali's amazing results. She has major chess talent and she has a strong mind. Her example inspires me to do better at overcoming adversity-- an important skill for both chess and real life. Vaishali's five consecutive wins may be the record in a Candidates Tournament. One footnote. I recall Bobby Fischer winning 12 consecutive in the 1971 Candidates Matches.

The format was completely different in the 1971 tournament. I think they're focusing on the current format.
Congrats to India on such a strong showing all around in the candidates.
Vaishali did not even take a second before acknowledging Humpi's and Harika's contributions ❤❤❤❤

God level comeback by vaishali 🚩💯🔥
Brother and sister not only extremely talented , their mental strength also sets them apart
Love the brother sister relationship. Great guys
Amazing comeback by Vaishali. Vaishali and Pragg both have very creative game that is the reason when they win they destroy the opposition mentally . This also the reason due to there style of taking there game beyond boundary they suffer loss. I enjoy there game very much..
She had that pressure of winning After loosing 4 games she lost that pressure because anyway she can't win it Now she just played Pressure is what makes us loose our presence of mind We should never think of results, we just have to be focused on what we are doing right now
Five in row. That's like grand slam in chess. Well done Vaishali❤❤❤❤❤
THis is a huge achievement. very clear best future
It was probably nerves which made her struggle in initial rounds..
It was an amazing come back of sorts by Vaishali. Way to go

Damn she's beautiful
excellent comeback vaishali
in one or two game she was losing but stayed resilient and won. there is a lot we can learn from her performance.
Attagirl! 🎉
I would like to say Pragg OP first before Vaishali OP because one more win and he was in contention, we trust him more than anything!!!
I hope to see her in the open section soon.
This known as real meaning of comeback after losing straight 4 games to winning straight 5 games...
Crazy result
I ❤ Deshmukh

Usually when there are no tiebreaks for first place, SB score is used to break ties for 2nd place. Based on that Humpy finished second.

That's what is the reason to overhype. She lost 4 in a row and then she made a comeback and won 5 in a row. That does require a different kind of mental strength. Not everyone can do it.
