Kiryu’s VA singing style is always smooth and soft when comes to sentimental songs, there will be other different styles and levels of emotions if those songs are sung by other VAs

shinada gives such a tounge-in-cheek, goofy-stoicness that makes his version of this song truly memorable

I miss Shinada, I wish RGG studio would bring him back, his part in 5 was my favorite and it kinda sucks how shoehorned his role in the finale was. Just give him a better combat style lol

I really liked his combat style. It's very scrappy and unrefined, yet powerful, which is very much a reflection of Shinada as a character.

Honestly I don't know how people complained about Shinada's fighting style. The weapon side of him is cool but I love his grappler moveset. Being able to just grab at virtually anytime and fuck over a blocking enemy just feels great, especially after Yakuza 3. And all the re-grab stuff he does makes him able to touch of death opponents very well.

Personally I think they wrapped tanimura and shinadas story up pretty well and I feel like akiyama shouldn't have been a playable character in 5 cause he doesn't do all that much but help Haruka a bit. I liked him in 6 because he wasn't integral to the story but he was still there to lend kiryu a hand.

Shinada's version sounds like he was asked to annunciate each syllable extremely anally, and he's being half-sarcastic with the delivery.

This is technically and objectively the best version of the song. Anyone with a bit of musical training can tell he is singing it rock-style. Subjectively, u may prefer other versions, that is fine but I am not discussing individual preference.

Your opinion on this is absolutely subjective too. In response to your comment on "musical training", I have taken classical singing training for years and disagree with your assessment that this is "objectively" the best. I agree that this version is better than Kiryu's, but giving any of the versions an "objective" victory is high-minded and elitist. If anything, I take multiple issues with his style of singing: - During the chorus, his staccato-like singing is obviously used to give velocity to the notes, but he overuses it and the singing sounds disjointed. I'd normally say this is subjective, but if you insist on making this an objective technical overview, his overuse of staccato negatively contributes to the song's chorus, breaking the flow. Staccato is an effect used for emphasis, and emphasis is completely lost when it's used everywhere. "Objectively" speaking. - His vibrato, as a result of his forceful singing, is sometimes wildly out of control. "Baby" at 1:11 drifts an entire semitone sharp at points and does not hit its intended C4 very well. Another bad example at 1:44 on the "eh" vowel going a full semitone sharp and the "woah" a few seconds later aims for A3 but the vibrato is so uncontrolled it reaches up to C4. - Really odd and inexplicable vowel choices. While generally his vowels are fine, leaning towards edge-heavy, there are some really strange moments such as 3:29 where.. what is he even singing? Why did he choose that vowel? I don't disagree that it's a solid rendition of the song. He sings it in a fairly convincing rock style and gets a lot of things right. However, don't employ a false and pretentious shield of objectivity to protect it from criticism, or give your opinion more importance or value - and certainly don't take down other versions in the process. Some elements of singing are objective, but they are mere factors in overall enjoyment of a vocal performance; do not act arrogant and more "correct" than others because you believe you are a more astute or intelligent listener. In singing, the technicalities are a factor, not an answer.

@@themriron2391 You're misrepresenting my arguments (strawman fallacy). I didnt say Shinada's version is perfect and beyond criticism. Any piece of art or music can and should be criticized. But it stands as fact from a technical perspective - he is a better singer than the other 2 guys. And since there are only 3 versions of this song, Shinada's the best so far. You also agree that he sings better than Kiryu, so you've partially agreed with my assesment. The rest are fans who are not comfortable n feel attacked by objective opinion & evaluation. But I'm someone who cries the emperor has no clothes rather than to say things to make ppl feel nice.
