r/Maliciouscompliance How I Destroyed My Boss's Terrible Business

r/Maliciouscompliance In today's episode, OP starts a new job at a tech company. The commute is pretty bad and the pay is even worse, but he's desperate for cash. He quickly discovers that his new boss is absolutely terrible at his job, mean, and just plain lazy. The boss eventually tells OP that they're going to significantly cut his salary, which is the last straw. OP sets in motion a series of events that culminates in his boss's business crumbling into dust.

Idk why but the funniest part to me is putting myself in the new guys shoes being excited about my new job and sitting down to read my first company email and it’s this saga about how terrible my new boss is and then he shoves me away from my desk to delete it. Right? Plus that last line shows how truly incompetent they were. You know how much you fucked up to be held PERSONLY liable? That mean from the very beginning, you were so wholly incompetent, you didn't do what was required. Whether that was from laziness, greed, or stupidity doesn't matter. This business was doomed from literally the very beginning.

@@paulineisme this is a an extreme layperson explanation of a complicated legal concept so there might be some stuff missing but the gist is there. When you start a business, you can do it in many ways. Partnerships, incorporation etc. There are a few different ways to protect yourself and/or partners. One of the first things most do is incorporate.(so any business that has LLC or Inc. are incorporated.) You don't have to do so, but it protects you personally. It basically creates a person called " X corporation." This makes it where any problem the business has stays as a business problem. The problem is that there are specific rules you have to follow to keep that protection. If you do/don't do certain things, mess up the paperwork, or choose the wrong type of business type you do something called "pierce the corporate veil" which essentially takes away that protection and makes a person liable for anything the corporation does. You can choose to not do that and most try, but it can easily be messed up if you don't follow certain rules/guidelines. TL, DR: Create a new person by incorporating, do business, mess something up, corporate person's debts, liabilities and crimes a responsible are now the responsibility of a specific person/people.

Op mentioned they were waiting for the perfect opportunity to quit so the fallout would hit the company harder. I can’t help but wonder if they were biding their time for when OP quit because he had all of the documentation, and having the two main people working on the project leave at the same time without training the new guy would’ve hurt the most. I don’t think they ever intended to leave OP with the fallout because he was going to be the one who kickstarted it.

There’s a massive amount of monthly, quarterly, and yearly paperwork that must be maintained and filed with the state government to maintain that protection (meeting notes, budgets, corporate structure documentation, etc). If you fail to maintain the paperwork, the protection ceases and you resume personal liability.

It took 20 minutes to set it up so i can do the actual work. That was the day i learned how that Company shedules Work Orders/Times. Product is sold for amount X. Profit wanted is amount Y. X-Y is the Money willing to spend (Z). And now Z gets divided by Material costs and Work Time costs. You may see the Problem there.

As an engineer you are not obligated to a schedule that you had no input to or which is done by someone competent. I spent years as a test manager and always worked on the schedule. I never worked off a schedule dictated to me. NEVER. Thats why we ended up finishing 30 days ahead of schedule and $400K under budget for a major upgrade on a DOD contract. As a salaried employee, they dont own you. You can challenge their schedule. You just have to be willing to tell them WHY their schedule wont work and walk from the job if they don’t listen. No reason to kill yourself for someone else’s profits.

First one: Well... he says having the code on a computer with no internet access is pure paranoia, but that is actually a normal security tactic... though everyone having an extra computer to do this is a little overboard. Cyber Attacks are continually on the rise and becoming more and more sophisticated as time goes on. In IT security it is usually not "how to stop cyber attacks," though that is still important and you try your best, but "how to mitigate the damage caused by one," because one getting through is inevitable (and more than likely, more than one get's through). That just shows how bad it is right now.

The Story: OP good for him best wishes, but the tears-n-violins story of how it was hard to find a job, car payments, loans, job offer was a long commute (very common) to-n-from your place, etc., well that is what tens of millions of people have done before, are doing and will do until the end of time.

Man I respect the grind from OP, college dropouts have it really tough. I sometimes wonder if university loans being handed out so flippantly are just a tax on the uncertain. (Like how people say the lottery is a tax on the poor/gullible) People will often drop out because they assumed college was necessity and not just one option for their future. Something tells me if OP enlisted and got a job as a tech, or learned at a trade school, or just went into the market self taught, he would have been just fine.

Canada may not have many workers rights, but one we do have is a right to salary. You cannot have income taken away from you for any reason, only things like bonuses. If I get a promotion, and then get demoted, I keep the new higher wage regardless. Circle K fired me years ago because they wouldn't pay me my current wages after demotion for missed time, I had kidney stones. My unemployment hit their insurance HARD. Wrongful termination. They basically paid me 1200$ a month for a full YEAR. I took that time to travel.

If you see rich people giving "advice" on the internet on how to be rich Half the pitch is the "full refund" bit, you need to nail that whatever money is put in, will be given back But, of course, you are not rich, you can't back up that money, and if you are not rich and do such claim, you are rolling dices with your life, your home, everything that you built until now
