If he had been illiterate, he never would have been admitted into Kenwood High School which at that time was one of the top ten schools for academics in Chicago. So you'll get a understanding of what that means, 6 of the top ten high schools in the state of Illinois are Chicago Public Schools.

Some students can use their hands better than their minds, and still be intelligent. My Aunt taught students, who had 'learning disabilities' for 40 years, and she loved them and they loved her!! She said the only difference between her students and the other students was, they only needed love and hugs like the rest of the 'regular' students!!!
