Pro tip, You can devote Valentine's day to watch movies/a series/play a game/etc that you love. I take valentine's day as an excuse to watch the extended edition of the lotr trilogy. Told my family that that's what I love and that I'd appreciate it if I wasn't bothered since I have a tight schedule, and they agree not to bother me too much. So, yeah, I found a loophole to enjoy and look forward to valentine's day despite being aroace.

massive amounts of wealth were and still are being extracted, and african development (especially in particular areas like former french colonies) are made dependent and have their development limited in part by neocolonial practices. but you are right depending on what we're talking about. the era of colonialism in the 1880s was marked by incredibly unprofitable colonies being gobbled up just for prestige, but many colonies could be profitable on their own, or were apart of a broader imperial system.. think of britain collecting colonies like egypt, south africa, east africa, malaya, etc. to secure their access to India.
