Her voice is simply one of the best of the 20th century American musical theater. Stunning.

She has that amazing, incomparable blend of vocal, technical perfection and precision that nevertheless does not come across as plastic or lifeless. Instead, she's a brilliant interpreter, conveying emotion perfectly appropriate to any material, a true actress, musician, vocalist par excellence.

She is musical theater royalty. Though the woman currently singing it on Broadway is wonderful, Miss Cook shows how to act the song as well as sing it.

My Aunt Myrna, dead these 15 years, took me to see "She Loves Me" in May of 1963, when l was 12. l fell in love with Barbara Cook that night, and now, at 66, am still in love. She announced her retirement a week or so ago; she is 89 now, and not well. But she will always be young to me.❤

God bless her. And how wonderful that you were able to see her live. And, in a book show, which she felt was her greatest talent. I am so envious. She was a real treasure, and I am so sorry we lost her a couple of years ago. Thank God for KZread.

Barbara died on August 8 2017 at 89.

Actually, it was her last dessert, like 2 days before she passed away on Tuesday. This is according to someone who was there in her last hours. And then when the funeral home took her away, her son & the friends went to Joe Allen's for dinner, and had Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert!! How about that?

Sorry to point out that she messed up a few lines. She knew the song too well! She reversed "As strange as it may seem, it's all a kind of dream" and she said "Somehow it all reminds me of Dr. Jekyll..." when it's "Somehow he will remind me".
