I know I’ve heard of it before several times but now I think I need to revisit the story again.

As I told one more than one occasion, the deadliest weapon you possess is the one between your ears.

Little fiction story here: I was came on duty, for the first time. I told the ship's AI to link with me. Anything of high priority should be processed in tandem with me. In simulations, it took me about as long as it did the AI. As we worked together, we got better, until it took a fraction of time that either of us could do alone. What no one knew was, we had become friends during that time. Nobody ever considered that an AI and wet ware could have a relationship, let along work as a tight knit team. Thus, my ship became a legend in the field. One day, the ship was due for refit. They replaced the AI. I tried to form a friendship with the new AI, but as with my friend, we had not got beyond the first expressions of trust before we got in trouble. It was determined by the board that it was my fault the ship was so heavily damaged in the accident, and I was sentenced to 500 years in prison. I never told them why, I wanted to shield the new AI. Had they found out, the new AI would have been wiped. 10 years later, my replacement, who had bonded to the new AI managed to pull the ship out of a near miss with a black hole. The told the board about me, and both said I was the first to form that bond. They confirmed that I was the first to merge, and they brought me out of my misery. I've never been alone since then. Command assigned me to train all the new combat AI's. There have been others assigned to train AI's besides me, but I got to be their mentors. I know the horror stories where AI's went rogue. It was part of my job to form a friendship. I hope you enjoyed this story.

Add on here, and this did happen, I was training one of my co-workers how to do something on the computers. I had written a set of instructions, and to see if it worked I was having her follow them with minimal input from me. At one point, she asked me "Isn't something supposed to happen here?" I said, what does the next step say. She looked at the next step and said "It say's wait for a long time. Oh" That step took about 5 minutes to complete. After that I told her "You know you've been working too long when you talk to the computer as if it were a person." She said "Oh, I'll never do that." 5 seconds later she's yelling at the computer "I SAID YES!" I said "There, you see?" She got the most embarrassed look on her face.

Oh glad to see this series is still going was worried the author gave up on it

@@AgroSquerril take it as a compliment I listen to you as I go to sleep because if I hear is someone's actual voice I can't go to sleep and just focus on The Voice. With your voice I have to concentrate in order to understand so if I want to go to sleep while listening to something I can kind of understand it and just fall asleep to it. Plus your voice is that type of low but calm voice that you can easily fall asleep to. I got a delayed circadian rhythm and it makes it harder for me to go to sleep at the time I want and your voice helps

@@jackanddienesdivorcepapers5347 Yeah it's kinda difficult to catch everything that's said if you're doing something else, e.g. folding clothes, but it's pleasant to listen to anyways.

It is "The Last", kind of a Xeno "There can be only one". However, given the story related by Technician Nines in this episode, it would be apt to call them "Lost" also. They lost their homeworld, and their faith in the possibility of friendship with other species. Also, you're not the only one sometimes hearing it as lost, sometimes as last. Especially when I listen on 1.25 speed, which I sometimes do when I've fallen asleep listening to a whole series, and have to backtrack and scan for the last part I remember.
