I thought it had become a policy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation to only take requests from the dying kids in question, with a signed consensus from both the child and their legal guardian, and report every obvious sign of entitlement to authorities. There has to be a zero tolerance for this kind of emotional manipulation.

@@Catholic_Warrior I feel like just as much as it could be corrupt like that there could be just as many people manipulating. There are cases where people manipulate their children to lie or manipulate the workers into believing their kids are acting out for attention Nothing about either is good, but a lot of kids are saved from abusive situation because of the good part of CPS

I work in Film/TV and one of the shows I worked on a while back was pretty popular with Make a Wish kids. As part of my job, I got to be the one to take the families to set and introduce them to the actors. It was one of the most gratifying and joyful things I’ve ever had the privilege of doing. The cast and crew treated the families like royalty - they sat in directors chairs, got signed scripts, pictures and swag..one kid even got to blow something up. I miss that job…

This really pisses me off how these entitled parents treat disabled children. It makes me see red. I worry these kind of parents are gonna end up raising children that don't have any empathy or compassion for other people. It also drives me nuts to hear about people who try to take advantage of a dying child to get what they want. It is their wish Not their family's wish! My nephew got his wish when he was little and he got better and wanted to raise money for other kids wishes and I was more than happy to help. I worked my behind off making sure we raised a lot. Unfortunately, his cancer came back and he died the following year but he was so happy that he helped other kids get their wish and I was so grateful that I was able to help him do that.

My daughter wanted to ride a horse and meet Elsa. So she is getting to do both. I know however if her wish was different and all she wanted was maybe a new dress or a trip to the beach (these are her likes) then it's her choice I should have no say in what her wish should be. Not sure how it works in other countries, but my local theater informs people to text a certain number in case someone is causing a disturbance before the movie starts. Who else agrees that taking responsibility for one’s actions should be basic 101 stuff? Because I want to make it a law that parents must pass a self-responsibility check and have the concept of being wrong in their system, otherwise they must be banned from parenting in the grounds of narcissism and delusions. For non parents, if they choose to act like monsters and savages who start problems and pretend they’re justified, they will be beaten with a stick as discipline, until they’ve been thoroughly straightened out. I’m joking out of bitterness, of course, I just wish people would do the easy thing and admit fault, it would stop SO many fights before they start!

unfortunately, it's going to keep getting worse and worse with time. Social media has done a real number on our society. When people get called out -- they don't question whether they're right or wrong, or take ownership. Instead they block and censor who called them out, and then seek validation from others. Which only reinforces toxic behaviors. Add in the twist that they'll probably end up more socially isolated, because internet groupies are not the same thing as intimate friends, and you'll see a lot more unhinged people lashing out. This is the kind of stuff that leads to gated communities.

@@JimBonsey We've literally gone up a billion in 10 years, that's scary to think about. Too many people bringing too many more people into the world when we don't have the resources to sustain them and there are plenty of abandoned children in temporary foster homes and adopting houses... At this rate, we definitely need to cull the birth rate. Whether it be by laws requiring parents to take parenting tests or limiting how many people are born per family. There are plenty of people out there who don't plan to have kids at all, which is actually a good thing on the birth rate side. I think we need to make it a standing thing that people are more inclined to adopt before having one of their own. They may just find the adopted child is enough.

I just got done watching one of your other videos that involved another Make A Wish kid who sadly passed away. She really wanted to meet RDJ but sadly her parents pressured her into going on a cruise instead. These stories really make my blood boil, especially since OPs parents basically said they don’t care whether they die or not and to “think of their sister”. As somebody who used to work in Disney, I can’t help but think now whether the Make A Wish kids that I’ve seen there genuinely wanted to go there or were pressured by a family member. Either way though I hope they still were able to have a good time. Make A Wish really needs to come up with a better system, maybe contacting the kids directly and making sure the parents or other family members do not have any involvement with their decision. Because guess what? It’s not about them and never will be, it’s about the child!

I wasn't annoyed at the baby crying (it was understandable, babies cry and if there's a super loud noise, it's going to scare the baby), but I was more annoyed at the mom for just standing there through the loud scenes and her trying to focus on the movie through the cries. Though, the thing was she DID eventually leave. Either it was someone telling her something (or telling the usher to tell her) or she started to feel guilty for the stress she was putting on her baby and vamoosed!

I was super excited when the original Jurassic Park was re-released in 3-D because I felt like that movie was always meant to be in 3-D. A mother had brought her three boys with her to see the movie, and I thought, “Does she NOT know what movie this is?”, but I didn’t say anything. Everything actually went pretty good until the scene when the T-Rex screamed and started trying to eat the helpless kids in the Jeep. Then the youngest kid, who was about four, screamed in absolute terror and climbed onto his mother’s head. I laughed a little at first because it looked like when Abu panics and jumps on Aladdin in the old animated Aladdin movie. I mean, the kid was literally wrapped around mom’s head with his arms over her eyes and his legs wrapped around her neck. My amusement gave way to anger though because the kid was OBVIOUSLY terrified. She was going to traumatize him. Most of the scary parts are so loud that the kid’s screaming didn’t bother me. I was just pissed off that someone did that to their child. Hope the kid peed on her.

Years ago, my husband and I lived in Cambridge, MA. We went to a Mexican restaurant before going to the movies. The restaurant was wicked busy and we finally got our seats. The waitress brought chips and salsa and then took our order. About 2 min later, the person next to us said, “hey-could I have a chip?” We told her to just ask the waitress and she’d bring more. They kept asking and then grabbed our basket. The waitress saw this, brought us a new basket of chips and said something quietly to the other table. Our food arrived and it looked great…too great, I guess. The other table started asking us for chicken, tortillas, cheese…they would not leave us alone. The waitress came over and told them to stop and if they wanted more food to order it. Otherwise, pay up and leave. We tried to ignore them and they left about 5 min later. They stiffed the waitress. Our meals were totally comped so we left a HUGE tip. To this day, whenever we are at a Mexican restaurant with chips and salsa, one of us will say, “hey…can I have a chip?”

I feel for you lol. When the movie Sausage Party came out, me and some of my buddies went to watch it. During the previews and woman comes in with like 4 or 5 kids around 6-10 maybe. My experience wasn't ruined per se, but I was dumbfounded by that woman's decision to bring kids to that movie

As someone born with a terminal illness. My family acted the exact same way. My mother tried to get me to make my wish for some random tropical place. But I was dead set on meeting the Ninja turtles(this was back in the 90s). My mother and brothers used that as hate against me for years. And to top that. 4 years ago. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I was supposed to die. My mother bought a truck in my name and didn’t pay for it for two years, hoping I would die, and the insurance would pay for it. And my little brother actually took my cancer and pretended it was his own. He shaved his head. Got medical leave from work. Had people hold fundraisers for him, and more. When I found out. I told every single person I know. My little brother called me a selfish piece of shit and my my mother said “who cares. You’re going to die. You owe him. It’s the least you could do” WHILE IM CURRENTLY PLANNING MY FUNERAL BECAUSE NOT A SINGLE DOCTOR THOUGHT I WOULD SURVIVE. It got even worse. I shared that whole story on Reddit entitled parents some time ago too, in fuller detail.

The pizza theft one made me retch. Unvaccinated, unmasked and you just walk up to put your [I am betting unwashed] hands on someone elses' food? But then "It's not stealing! It's SHARING!!" No, lady, it's sharing if it's offered, it's stealing when it's taken. The disabled child story, I had to pause the video and walk away for a moment to take a breath. I really hate when people toss the r-word around. It's been tossed at me multiple times, across childhood and adulthood. And the poor girl was just physically disabled, she could understand every word. [probably smarter than the mother too] Malicious compliance, mwah. Insert chef kiss here. Ugh, another Make-A-Wish theft by the parent. I think they should have some kind of policy where the agents ask the kid directly what it is THEY want. As for the baby in the movie story, yeah, my own entitled mother pulled that, with me. I want to say it was a theaater re-run of Return of the Jedi, because I wasn't born yet when it first came out. But she was getting looks from other people well before the movie even started. To my credit, baby me didn't make a single sound the entire movie. But man, makes me cringe whenever I think about it.

I’m happy that the last story described that the movie would be to LOUD for the baby, not to scary which makes sense since a baby wouldn’t understand what would happen or that the movie even is scary. If the movie did HAVE those things the baby is scared of like vacuums or a its dad shaving his beard then it would probably be scared,

Also like. You can always get refunds if you can't make it to a movie if you bought your tickets in advance. Theaters usually are accommodating to these things cause health conditions, and other emergencies exist. Shoot, I think it should be against policy to bring in any kid under the age of 7 (where they can tolerate loud sounds, and comprehend movies better) and be strict about the ratings until you hit being around 15 years old if you're accompanied by an adult for r rated movies. Grocery stores I get. Being your crotch goblin there. But in a place where they are supposed to be quiet. No, not at all. Cause they can't communicate at all, outside of screams and cries.

As a movie theater employee, the stories that take place in theaters are very relatable. Several times we've needed to get the manager because people were making a ruckus. And kids are just ridiculous. They likely won't remember and the messes they make are just ridiculous.

That first story had my blood boiling. I grew up in a time and place where the r-word was still somewhat socially okay to use as a casual insult amongst people you knew and I grew up with people using it in casual conversation (like calling your friend it when they did something dumb or, for example, I was in maths class in middle school and we were doing some geometry related artwork for a display for the school's open day and someone cut a paper shape wrong so it was a little wonky, and their response was "oh well, this one's gonna have to be a bit r*tarded I guess"). That was just the casual side, there were also those who used it to intentionally insult other people, some who were actually disabled. I have, myself, used it in casual sentences with middle school friends because I didn't really know what it meant, and also English isn't my first language so I would pick up on pretty much anything my classmates would say, thinking they were acceptible slang words. When someone very helpfully explained it to me and why it's not an okay thing to say, I stopped using it immediately and always feel like a terrible human being when I think about how casually I used such language back then. I'm in my 20s now and to this day I still know people in real life who are my age who think calling someone the r-word is fine and think people are just sensitive or "trying too hard to be politically correct". It sickens me that people will still throw it around like it's nothing, even when they know what it means and how hurtful it can be, LET ALONE AN ACTUAL FREAKING PARENT WHO IS ENCOURAGING IT IN HER IMPRESSIONABLE CHILDREN.

That first story reminded me of something from my childhood. In around 4th grade a new family moved into town about a block from where I lived (and right across the street from my best friend). He was a year younger than me and he was a thief. He didn't go for valuable, he'd just steal whatever he could get his hands on. Random things like a whet stone, a sprinkler, a 1-month old kitten, food, a book, a chair, etc. And his mom used to urge him on and tell him he wasn't stealing enough. It was absolutely nuts. I can't count the number of times I'd have to walk into his house and take back something he'd stolen from us while his mom just glared daggers at you for taking it back.

Here they tend to be rated 15 or 18 so they’re not getting in anyway. No cinema is going to want the huge fine for letting in anyone underage, though obviously everyone tries it at least once lol. I only did once and my friend’s mum bought us the tickets (I was a very young looking 14 year old, hell I just turned 35 and still get IDd for alcohol).

It's a small thing but the fact that OP in the second story chose the name "Joy" for her little sister makes me smile. It suggests that she loves her sister and thinks very well of her. It's easy for older siblings who take care of younger siblings to grow a bit resentful but this obviously isn't the case here.

The "wish thieves" story should be posted under "R/ThatHappened" I don't believe a word of that story... From the make a wish contacting THEM (I'm pretty sure you have to contact them, they don't get lists of sick kids), the doctors thought I was going to die from "brain damage" and now I'm healthy and successful hmmm... to the "they all told me they hated me and wished I would die"... Nah, written by a tween who wants attention. Yes, crappy parents can pressure their kids to choose something they want/more valuable and so on,e I've read several stories like that, but this one is just so unbelievable...

Two stories Re:small children and movies. 1) A friend of mine, Aaron, went to see a movie with his boyfriend. Someone has brought a young baby with them. The child started crying about halfway through and the mother wouldn't leave with the baby. Finally during a quiet point, baby still screaming, Aaron pipes up with "either take the baby out or I will eat it." Shocked the mother left, with child. No clapping, just stunned horror. 2) My friend Jenn loves horror movies. When the Exorcist was rereleased she got tickets to see it. As the movie starts getting scary, she hears a very small voice say, "Mommy, I'm scared." Jenn had two smalls herself and was shocked that someone would bring, what looked like, a 4 y/o to see The Exorcist. Que demon manifestation and child screaming and crying in terror. Jenn immediately left to get an usher and said that there was child abuse occuring in the theater. The woman actually refused to leave, to the point that the manager had the movie stopped and security remove her. I don't understand why people take small children to movie theaters for showings that aren't geared towards kids. We are so paranoid about our kiddo bothering others we only take her to drive-ins.
