    At a much, much smaller scale, sure. When's the last time you heard Kid Rock being asked to do anything by a politician? Think back to when Hilary thought she had a shot. How many celebrities came out to support her on all sorts of media? This whataboutism doesn't really work in your favor, especially when things are so clearly lopsided toward the left in this celebrity worship bullshit.

    I stay outside of political tribalism, so I don't have a dog in the fight. That said, there is will be "bias" one way or another in certain mediums or social circles. As I say, the reason you don't see many conservative in the arts is the same reason you don't see many liberal truck drivers or oil rig workers. Studies increasingly indicate people tend toward a "liberal" or "conservative" thought process by nature -- in other words, differences in brain function. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with either -- we need both, and ideally, they compliment one another. We need liberal minds to drive things forward, and conservative minds to keep them stable. But, sadly, contemporary society has politicized this, and split us into political tribes. Those are my thoughts.

    "That said, there is will be "bias" one way or another in certain mediums or social circles."LOL. Yes, and the "bias" lib media prevents or twists what the right says or does. No matter what they do/say, the media labels it racist, homophobic, misogynistic etc, even when it clearly isn't. It's just a quick and easy way for the libs to silence those who think or act differently than themselves. But please don't think it's "one way or another" with both sides.

    I saw REM in Serbia, they start the anti American rant and people were quiet. He voted for Clinton, the president that bombed Serbia, Clinton sided with NATO and bombed a city full of civilians. Then has the audacity to offer an apology for a president that he voted for. Michael Stipe doesn't like any politics that he can't dictate. Way before Trump,way before Obama. He protest for the sake of looking involved. Great band but I personally don't pay to hear the people talk bullshit politics. He hates any administration that he doesn't agree with. It's important to remember that (for the time being) the pace of progress in the Western world has been temporarily slowed and occasionally retarded by numerous movements that seek to promote exclusivity and prejudice. There have been many struggles across Europe and the UK which are similar in quality and property. One step forward, two steps back, is slightly better than three steps back (one step back.)

    I agree with much of their frustration and anger but they are out of touch. The working class does not like the far progressive left and the Democrats have really married that faction of the Party. Its unfortunate but I think Trump can get reelected based on most people I talk to liberal and conservative

    Now, been a fan of their IRS material, n Green, and Time... it felt like they were getting better and better. Although ATFP sounded like a different REM, for sure that album was ICONIC, but it was somewhat like...the Cure does REM or vice versa...for the time of its release, it was perfect and deep. For the long haul however. Green, Document, Pageant and even Fables has had more listenability, "classic", root of the band, even grunge factor. You can respect their maturity to "swim fwd like a shark" being true to themselves, but for AFTP to live up to its title " FOR the People"....maybe they could had swapped those deleted tracks for the handful of other tracks...IDK...They lost something by the time Monster was released, maybe those particular songs could had saved album sells...maybe. Unless they were included on other future albums, which by time HiFi was released....it no longer mattered. Interest was lost. Hearing they had other unreleased material in that timeframe makes you wonder...just who and what "people" was "Automatic" really for? Loved the album, but started missing that late 80's REM sound which if applied to the 90s, could had left a more delible mark. Unless, those were the very songs released on Monster. One fan's humble opinion.

The system is fixed and has been for 242 years now. How on Earth would it be that all but one of the President's are related to each other if the system isn't fixed? The odds are simply way to out there for this to be a coincidence.

    It amazes me how many people in here claim to be fans, yet seem so surprised by REM's political stance. If you know anything about this band at all, you'd know they'd never support a spiteful, narcissistic man-baby like Trump. Perhaps those of you upset by this revelation and in need of musicians whose politics match yours should go and watch some Ted Nugent videos instead.

  • @johnmac91

    @johnmac91

    I'm slightly right of center but was a big fan of REM. Conversely, I'm not a fan of Ted Nugent simply because I don't like his music. Generally speaking I try not to consider an artist's political leanings. This is mainly for pragmatic reasons. I mean realistically, since most of Hollywood and the music industry is liberal, so for me to boycott their work would mean never listening to music or going to the movies again. The only time it bothers me is when the artist lets the political nonsense overshadow their music (or film, etc.). For example, if I'm paying $100 or more for a concert ticket, I want to listen to music - i don't want to hear the musicians lecturing me from the stage. that's one thing i love about Willie Nelson. I love his music, and make it a point to go see him whenever he comes to Boston, and one thing I'll say is that even though he is a liberal, in the dozens of times I've seen him in concert, I have never heard him interject his politics into his show.

    Why don't people ever have any actual criticism of President Trump? It's always vague remarks like "spiteful manbaby" which don't really say anything about his stance or policies. Consider this: **rimshot** Lowest black unemployment in history Lowest Latino unemployment in history Lowest Asian unemployment in history Lowest female unemployment in 65 years Lowest overall unemployment in 17 years Highest consumer confidence in 18 years Climbing GDP Highest stock market in history Got The US out of TPP Got the US out of PCA Renegotiated NAFTA for America's benefit Demanding (and getting) other countries pay their fair share for America's contribution to their national defense Denuclearization of North Korea as verified by inspections SPACE FORCE V.A. Despite the guy being savage (and I believe unlawful, but the impeachment is here to decide on it) there is a big trend, and not only in the US with SJW and excess thereof. But the democrats are not better, we must not take the world too naively. That being said I love REM I respecy their opinions and agree because these are reasonable opinions respectfully expressed I have nothing against any sexual orientation. SJWs, feminists and so on must grow in their mind and really be more reasonable as well the must speak up, say hi, yes I am homosexual if they want, no problem, but not say that every word we say is oppressing.
