It's not us you need to be blaming. It's our corrupt government that seeks at every path to divide us. If we ever come together we will be a force to be feared and the government will learn its place: servants to the citizens, not their masters.

@@GetOnTheFloor82 thank you so much. This is snowballing. Desmond Robinson's sister just died of Covid. Ripped the bandages off everything. I was his white roommate, Kelli was his sister. She didn't approve of our living arrangements. She told me she didn't like me living with her brother. She died, I was invited to funeral arrangements. I didn't know what to do. Kelli didn't like me. I had no feelings about her except sadness that she hated me being her brother's roommate because I am white. I know different people feel differently about who is appropriate to attend funeral services. Kelli didn't like me. I felt so sad about her death. That family losing another? Awful. I chose not to attend her zoom service, because I thought it was disrespectful. Other white friends of mine reported tears, sobbing over Kelli"s death. I really don't know what to think. I am truly looking inward to see if my own unconscious thoughts might be racist. I am perplexed, unutterably sad and confused. I know I will continue to examine myself and root out any awfulness. Right now I am wrestling with why I didn't like Kelli. Was it because she was awful to me? She was. How much because she was grating? She was. Was her being black part of it? Yes. I am thinking and feeling very thoroughly about all of it. I know if Skip were alive he would help me through this, my beloved Skip. My good friend. My benefactor.

Fifty years ago I came so close to ending my life. My parents told me over and over how much they hated me. I was ten at the time, and so very alone. And one day a person became a friend. Some one valued me, and that got me through. Thirty five years ago I got help for the rage that was planted in me, and while it was a long journey, I found peace. And I never doubt the value of a friend.

There is a tremendous need in all societies for people who can repress their emotions in the moment of action and chaos, when all those who cannot are overcome. We ask men to repress their pain, their anger, their fear, their hurt in the face of suffering, and I think sometimes that women forget (or never really considered) that these habits are not a light switch to be flicked on and off as it suits others. A few people can open and shut on command; most if us have predispositions in one direction or the other, reinforced by habit and group need.

This album came out a few months after my mother committed suicide, when I was fifteen. It was just the two of us, so the trauma was... all encompassing. You are right, you never know when the smile or frown you give someone will turn the tide for them one way or the other. We must be the good we want to see in the world. Having emotions is human. Showing them is healthy. Working through grief, sadness, depression, it’s possible. When you see yourself getting too close to the end, get help. Please, please reach out. Be visible, and find a way to work through it. 💗

I'm a 61 year old stroke survivor and I can relate. With the pieces of my memories that are now gone, I fell into depression. A year after the stroke, I had the opportunity to move to rural Tennessee, where my dad used to live. A lot of memories are coming back, but some never will. To help keep me here on earth, I got a dog. He's my responsibility and he's saved me a few time from the dark reaches of reality. Loved your reaction. Keep them coming.

I knew you'd cry at this one, real men cry. You're a wonderful, kind sensitive soul. As I always say, a smile can save a life, I'm living testimony. A stranger, an African man, when I lived in Cape Town, smiled at me one day, I was on the brink of taking my own life. That stopped me, I thought he saw something to smile at in me, maybe I'm not as worthless as I imagined I was. This song was always on the radio, after my second parent passed, my mam in 1995, I was home alone a lot, when this would come on, I felt it was mam talking to me, advising me to hang on, this too shall pass, what I was feeling was normal. I'm extremely sensitive, as are you, in fact, I feel that you're an empath and healer too, as I have been told I am by several of both. Maybe your calling, is to react to songs on here, that are universal. If I had watched you react to this, when I was grieving, it would have comforted me. You are helping many souls already. God bless your work, and wisdom at such a young age ❤

Yes, you are totally right though, holding feelings inside, it does have a negative effect on the human body itself. You’ve got to hand it to Michael Stipe, he read about the teenage suicide rate and wanted to do something about it. Many songwriters might have the same sentiments but very few could write, what is arguably one of THE songs that makes the listener reach inside of themself and conduit their own emotions and expose their feelings.

"Man up" is one of the stupidest things anyone ever said. It's like telling someone with depression to "snap out of it". Utterly pointless, completely unhelpful and possibly dangerous. Showing your feelings is the pressure valve we all need sometimes, don't ever, ever be afraid to be yourself. That's the sign of a real man, not all the macho bullshit we're fed on. Well done for being the man you are, not the one others expect. Much love.

It's not stupid. It's basically a simplified explanation of stoicism. " Keep swimming", " keep moving", " man up". The nature of man is to overcome things. The harsh reality is not everyone can make it in life. We live in the easiest time in human history.

Sometimes one hurts, but they dont have time to cry , man, woman and child and if youre black, yes, there are times we have to stay strong. So you dont just throw away that wisdom, but know when you do or dont have to, " man up." Dont let others persuade you that your ancestors wisdom is no longer necessary.

This came out in 1993 and when I listen to it, I just think about all the people who've listened to it and cried and felt pain since then. It comforts me on my dark days and reminds me that even though I might feel alone, I'm not.

I was watching reactions videos. Can’t sleep. And I stumbled on yours. I’ve been in a dark place lately and I’m 47, I grew up with REM. But seeing your reaction, feeling your pain, sharing your pain, gave me hope that I can open myself and let go of mine. Thank you. Thank you.

I hope you've found your way, my friend. Just remember, we're all in this together and you are never truly alone. There are random internet people who will help lift you up when you fall.

Hi Carlos, I feel your pain even though I don’t know your situation. I am in my 50’s and feel like I have made all the wrong choices in life even though it was the plan that I was supposed to follow. Had to work night shift jobs to go to college and then study all my free time. Never was able to have time to get married or have kids. So I am at a spot where I totally screwed everything up and all alone. I will make it through and I believe you will too. Hang in there and talk to someone about what you are going through. God Bless.

I know this song. Your reaction made me cry. Never let go of your heart. Feel life to it's fullest. Men should never hold back their feelings. Be proud, I'm proud of you and I don't even know you.

Mate you're an absolute legend. Men get a lot of stick for crying when in reality we have feelings just as much as everyone else. Gotta subscribe to a real one, much love brother

My dad was the rare man who cry in public and not give AF. I didn't know for a long time that he was the exception. Men who skow emotions, all of them are real men.

This was the best and most sincere reaction I’ve ever seen. I applaud you and your courage to discuss suicidal ideations and admit your emotional reaction to this beautiful and somber song. You are a real man and do not let anyone tell you differently. Compassion and understand are sorely needed these days. Thank you. This the first time I’ve subscribed to someone after seeing just one reaction video (actually I subscribed during the reaction).
