This song , this wonderful truthful song....... came back into my life at the right moment. I was feeling so down. so alone, so alone. Then it came on the radio while driving from my 14 year old son's grave. I felt that no one understood the pain I'd been living for 5 years. It helped me cry hard and deep. Something I needed. Alas, Mr. Jones, as a long-term bachelor, still, I am my only child, so I cannot possibly relate to the unspeakable grief of a father losing a son. Condolences. I lost my baby sister in 2014, ALS,took her too soon. Diagnosed on her bdaay 6/16/14& passed on my hubby's b-day, 10/2/2014. It still hurts.

Saw a comment from some time ago from Gene Bradley, probably not related. Thank you for your service, was drafted in 65, but I did not go to Vietam. I was was assigned to to France/ Germany corridor until 1967. One of the few things that kept all of us together was our faith, family, health, friends, and music. At my age I am greatfull to be alive and be able to still enjoy the sounds of silence by S&G and Distrubed. Never was into REM, but stumbled onto Everybody Hurts. To everyone out there, you can take the time to smell the roses, but you should take time to Listen to the Lyrics.

It's hard, yes. Personally, I find that avoiding the news (radio, TV, online, newspapers etc) helps significantly. I'm grieving the loss of my son. Everything else is an irrelevant, first world problem that I don't need or have to know about. I simply get on with my own life and realise that anything depressing that's happening on a wider scale doesn't actually affect me or is related to my life at all. Sending a hug 🤗

This song tugs at my heart no matter how many times I hear it. The lyrics, the vocals, the message all beautifully executed. Sometimes, the best way to send a message is through music. I sent this song to a young man who has been having challenges with suicide. He never heard the song as he was way too young when it came out. He let me know he did listen and he liked it. I think the song has made a difference in the lives of many. Thank you R.E.M.

We all have a God who helps us Hold on he is right in front of us with his hands and arms wide open i have been through a divorce the deat of a wife the dearhs of 2 girl friends due to my own stupidity over a year in jail and a crap load of probation not to mention losing my Dad while i was in jail could not attend services because it was out of stata and they were making sure i did a full year in jail since getting out of jail i have lost my Mom and a girl friend with in 6 months of each other who became great friends when i was in jail my girl friebd who was here in Tennesses was my middle man when i was in Jail as my Mom was uo in Northern Ny State since there passing my Lady Friend left me her house and a vehicle (,99 Forerunner )My Lady friend could have kicked me out to the curb while in jail as. Many have done since getting arrested While in jail i had 2 choices run to God or run away i choose to run to him actually he came and rescued me i was the one sheep in 99 he came and rescued pulled me out if a pit headed straight to hell the line has been drawn people beieve in God or suffer the consequences of Hell complete darkness and seperation from God like Jesus said every Knee will bow

I feel like I heard this on a movie not sure though what movie

It was 20 years ago this day in the evening. My father had just sat down to have his evening tea. The radio had started narrating news of the day when suddenly a loud gun shot was head. Hardly 100 meters from where he sitting. From his account the gunshot was simultaneously followed by a cry - "Mme wee!" That was the last call made by my young brother. He called his mother (Mme in Setswana). My father new immediately that his last born son had taken his life using the family 30.06 rifle. The pain! He walked straight to the scene where found found the lifeless body of his son. The pain! He had watch over the body for over four hours for the police to arrive to the scene - some 80 km southwest of Orapa town, Botswana. The pain! It doesn't go away. I am now 60, my father is 83. My youngest brother would be 41 last month. Whoever has thoughts of taking their life - please "hold on", as R.E.M says.
