Was that back when you had to go to the physical station to do r&d? I can't remember if it was that or the section 31 base. I had and still have not crafted a single thing in r&d. I always level them up but never am willing to find the materials fo it.

I remember that, I was never able to craft the set myself, but I wanted it so bad that I ground out the EC to buy it on the exchange, lol I still have it on my main toon :) that was a long time ago ha ha ha

Yup, still using aegis on my og toon. Also you can slot 3 research items per school per day...

something you didn't mention, or i didn't hear at least :P, you can run 3 of the same school level up tasks at the same time, if you have the slots open for it, to level up one school really fast - 18k xp with the 3, 23k with the fleet op, per day. And it can crit for a bouns 1k xp, so maybe 26k xp per day if you get lucky ^^

Stu mentioned doing one of each school's basic research assignment each day, but early on you need to get some schools up a few levels to unlock more slots so you can do more assignments simultaneously. I think you can get five slots that way, then if you want a sixth one you have to buy it from a Fleet Research Lab. So early on I run as many of one school as I can so I can unlock more slots sooner.

You can get a Duty Officer for each of the schools at the K-13 Fleet Holding as well if you don't want to rely on luck, or spending a bunch of EC.

There's another DOFF assignment in that same room on the Fleet Lab. Req's 4 DOFFs (pref. the Krenim researchers from the starboard laboratory). 20hr process and gives you between 2k-6k research XP pool.

Man I’m glad I farmed this game for 4 years Made Gamma/Deltal/temporal toons 4 each Just did dailies for each till level 65 Maxed out account bank space Maxed out 3 main toon banks and 30 ship slots each Maxed out 1 main toon completely working on endeavors, cause I literally just found it 😂 this game has a lot of content!

I stopped once I got to 15 in every school, but you have motivated me to grind them all on further...

Thanks a lot for making these videos, ive been playing STO for a few months now and getting more into it and more eager to learn about the actual game and these videos are absolutely marathon worthy! Still lots to learn, but you are helping a lot!

After getting into STO after several years of pausing, I can honstly say I feel lucky to have gotten to a full AEGIS set back when R&D was only doing a hand full of tasks.

There is a battery in the Kits and Modules school: Large Kit Overbooster. It gives +25 to Kit Performance for 10 seconds and instantly reduce your Kit Module recharge times by 25% when activated. Not a bad battery for helping your ground builds, especially since we have a 5th device slot thanks to that new Elite Captain token. Those R&D batteries don't unlock until level 10 so you couldn't see them. Also, there's actually two things on the Fleet Research lab to help boost your R&D xp grind. In that same room there's a doff mission contact, completing that mission will grant bonus R&D xp that'll apply to any school. This mission takes 20 hours to complete, but if you're going to be doing the bonus research project, might as well get the extra xp from the doff mission too.

FYI: If you're wanting to create a Temporal Recruit to get the R&D Doff, do it soon because the event will be ending this Thursday (Oct. 7th). Also, remember that it's only a Temporal Recruit if it's created during this event and progresses far enough to reach the 25th Century and collect the device from Philip Crey standing outside Quinn's office.

@@thomaswijgerse723 Temporal agent ends 10-7-21 Takes about an hour to get your toon from past time line to present game day time, then you have to talk to guy outside of admirals office on earth space dock he just stands there waiting.

I managed to get a friend to play STO , he loves destiny and games like that. He told me this game gives him a headache as there is so much to-do! :) Told him I have been playing for 6 or more years and I still dont know everything in STO :) thanks for your channel .

Love to see the build you done on the excelsior. Me got the t5 version and love to do a build on it

Excellent video and something that everybody should be doing. Just an FYI, the Kits and Modules trait is a must have for Ground.

Great video MC Stu, I love that I'm still learning stuff about STO even after playing for 11 years.

You can also buy discipline specific Duty Officers if your in a fleet. K13 and your fleet starbase can sell you most anything you need if they are sufficiently leveled.

For making a ground Kit or items that go into it, you can get the ones you need once you've leveled the K-13 station appropriately.

I made my Aegis set back when you had to craft in memory alpha. only recently got back into the game, everythings way more concentrated but way more confusing XD

Just made an mkii secondary deflector at very rare, and put 4 Phoenix upgrades into it. Finished with an epic MkXIII. Totally worth it. Science skill is at level 10.

MC Stu thanks again for the video and assistance you do with these. The Temporal recruit lv 1 R&D achievment doesn't account unlock that DOFF for the Aegis DOFF. The Temporal Recruit and Delta Recruit gets the same DOFF that Ferengi Gumare. The Gamma recruit gets the Jem Hadar but again, not account unlocked. Only those recruit characters get them. The crafted Aegis gear is on the exchange, but I am fairly sure the DOFs for Aegis crafting is not gonna show there. 🤔 unless I misunderstood, with that based on that Wiki you were on the 3 officers available for Aegis crafting one is a rare shot through the the under performing Officers duty assignment plus 5k Dil of course.

Confirmed, Gumarre (the Ferengi Aegis developer) is available to Temporal recruits. I had claimed him but didn't notice he was an Aegis DOff until you mentioned it. I know what he'll be doing tomorrow! Slight correction about the Bonus Research project on each school. The basic project grants 6000 Research XP on completion; the 1000 XP you mentioned at 14:20 is a bonus for a critical success on that project. (Later on when you were talking about the Fleet Research assignment you gave the correct number.) I got in the habit of grinding all my captains up to level 15 in all schools just for the traits originally, but they've been really handy for outfitting new characters too. Any of my level 65 captains have a 100% chance to build Very Rare Mk II weapons or gear, which anyone who has finished the tutorial can use. Then a handful of Phoenix upgrade tokens (one per item) will let them keep improving those up to Mk X to XII as they level up. I've had a lot more success at low levels doing that than relying on the mixed bag of drops and mission rewards that my previous characters used.

I’d say that unless you want the Aegis visual, just go do Midnight 4 times for a full space set totally free (Sol set is an excellent set to use on any career and build until you can make reputation gear, especially if you do not have access to the revolutionary set) Sol set or Revolutionary will also keep you flying through advanced TFO’s, in general Sol set is really good for survivability and it was my go to gear until Revolutionary came around. If you’re doing any energy weapon based build then definitely start with beam school and slot 3 per day to get to level 10 to unlock the energy amplifier crafting as making them yourself will save so much time (and EC) and then just work on any of the schools to get to 10 and eventually 15 on them, and focus on the schools that are most relevant for your build and play style. Personally on my DPSer, I made sure to get beams to 10 to make amplifiers to me and a good friend, and I worked on getting science to 15 to unlock the trait for when I put the toon on an EPG build (I’m making one, just haven’t flown it yet because Vaadwaur Jugg is too much fun) and now I’m currently working on getting cannons to 15 as I am a cannon build after all. I only just started the toon in August so it honestly doesn’t take too long to get the schools up there if you just slot things every day. At times when I’m not crafting amplifiers or Deuterium surplus, I have 3 of the main school and two of another slotted to really maximize the grind. I have an older character who’s at lvl 20 of several R&D schools, so in other words maxed out on the current cap. Ironically I’m not a crafter other than manuals and batteries (and I’m strongly opposed to having to have special officers to craft items and don’t like that it uses a significant amount of Dil and way too much time) very very rarely I might craft a particle emission plasma torpedo, an Omni directional beam or a TR rifle, but yeah, I’m not really a crafter other than manuals and batteries. Friends know they can always ask me if needing a manual as I can make most by now on one character or another

The reward unlock at R&D level 15, if you continue to level them to max level 20 you get improved chance of getting better quality items.

That is a damn fine looking Excelsior variant.

When it comes to the skill training crafting, not all of them are even available to craft. - Meaning, if you look at what is available in the bridge officer skills list, there are many which have either never been available or were available at one time and were phased out. Some can be acquired from lock boxes or certain mission rewards though. It is where you can, once you've unlocked the specialty classes, create training manuals to train the bridge officers - That will be one manual per bridge officer so choose wisely. - in any (and all if you choose) the specialty traits. However, you'll only be able to have one of them on any one bridge officer active at a time (in addition to the base class of that bridge officer).

I miss Memory Alpha. It had a cool look. I don't miss the old crafting system. It was a PitA... but you could craft combat Horta. Still have one on my main.

You can still craft one. Replay the episode "Mine Enemy" and get the schematic and then there is a Duty Officer (DOFF) mission for it. :}

I have a few of. Those orange plans you needed to craft stuff with. I believe one is a delta and another a Horta ... Now they just decorate that old toon inventory lol

My go to for all new captains: Transfer 200k dilithium to new captain, Join Fleet, donate dil to projects (make sure to use a fleet credit boost 1st!), warp to K13, go to vendor in back room who sells DOffs, buy all the blue ones. Each one has a specialization for each school so I can craft from any of the schools at level 15.

For crafters, I just normally buy the Kobali engineer Corps Duty officer packs of the exchange, Bit random what ones you get but it can save a bit of time looking for them, And at 2-4mil EC not that expensive.

on my main im 15 in all and beams at 17 and rising ... but i havent really used R&D to craft yet.... just went for the lvl ups all the time for the future i never used (or saw) the batteries... but that 20%+ sounds good so i will be crafting them from now on. and i will go have a good look at officer training as well... btw i hear about fleet items all the time.. .but where do i find that ;)

the Best things for me in R&D: - Aegis-Shield for the Looks - 360° Beam Weapoon of your Choice - Heavy Wide Cannons - Manouverability-Console, that with the Perk ResAll does give you the Resistance of a Neutronium Hull Console, buit with tthe Added High numbers in turnrate (great if yoiu have a scimitar-Like Gunboat, that just doesn't turn as fast as you want it to) - Some special Kit-Modules, like for my Engineers, Passively healinmg you and every Teammate within 5 Kilometers - evcen on the Biggest Ground-Maps, you're usually always within that range.

The thing I wonder about can we craft hyposprays for ground fights and personal shields and suits for our crew?

In both Xbox and PC , I have one Captain who is my dedicated crafter. In the case of the Xbox version its my Jem Hadar because most of the crafting skills are bumped to at least ten.

Ah, I'm not doing this. Haha - need to watch this later!

What tier level does your fleet research base need to be to enable that officer with the R&D missions? And, also, to enable a toon to grab extra space/ground/research/ship traits?

Thanks forgot about the Science trait, my not so sad, now, SCI-wizard needs it. I craft gear for myself, other stuff to sell. One thing about crafting gear, I crafted 3 Exotic Particle Field Exciters, using Fleet DOFFs, (1 grn, 1 blu, 1 prp), all with 2 +50 catalysts. On a SCI toon, level 20 SCI R&D. All 3 results were identical. So, IDK, what that says about hunting DOFFs & getting catalysts, oh well.

When it comes to crafting Exotic Particle Field Exciters, the outcome is completely random. The quality of DOFF or Catalyst doesn't mean anything, or affect quality level . I can't post screen clips here. Its nice to know. I'll save my catalysts for when I try this experiment out on weaps.

End of video stuff is for pc only right?

Still feel overwhelmed.. lol ! So much shit to wrap your mind around, I don't know what items to throw away and what to keep. I'm a minimalist so I know common etc.. can be discarded but if I currently have a purple item equipped to my ship, should I just toss the other purple items I have ? How do I know which items are truly better since "values do not reflect skills or other modifiers" ???

One of the reasons why I'll do the Fleet Research assignments is because you'll get a lot of dil, ec, and a VR material that can be used to create VR upgrades. I still use those upgrades once in a while because they tend to have a better quality upgrade chance than the Phoenix ones.

I dont think I've ever made anything before in sto, I always do the 6000 exp ones, I only have 3 at 15 so far

What are the items for that blue effect?

Really the only reason worth doing it is for the space traits and the batteries. You can get some energy credits for crafted items when sold on exchange. Don't expect anything amazing for doing this for almost a year or more as seriously that's how long it will take to get to lvl 20.

The trait shows up in your captain's list of available traits in the Traits tab, and you have to choose to slot it just like any other trait. The trait name isn't always obviously related to the R&D school that granted it. For example, getting Cannons to 15 grants the trait "Deft Cannoneer," which if you slot it gives you an inertia and turn rate boost when using Cannon abilities. (Handy for escort and raider captains.)

When the crafting system revamp first came out for the first month you could do the R&D daily research in as many slots as you had for the first month before they went to once per type then 3 per type. I maxed out my energy credits selling the upgrade within 4 month. and I sill have so many omni over beams it is not even funny

You didn't claim the rewards for that special R&D assignment at the lab. It starts the 20hr cool down once you claim the reward, if you don't claim the reward until the following day, the assignment won't be available again until yet the next following day.

One thing that really gets on my nerves is an intelligent person saying um so much. Please realize that you're doing this it's very annoying

You can get common R&D DOFF's from a standard Personnel Officer (Submit -> scroll to the bottom-> Get R&D)

Regarding batteries, if I am running a DEW build, then Beams first. If I am running an Exotic, then Science first. I actually slot these into my 'spam' bar so that they activate just before my weapon enhancement. I craft a lot of these. On a regular day I'll craft a couple of stacks. On an aimless day, it's not uncommon for me to fill my Inventory and Account Bank with stacks upon stacks of batteries and Deuterium Surplus. Batteries I mostly use are Energy Amplifier, Exotic Particle Flood, Hull Patch and the Kit ones. I have pne character the is running the Projectile weapons batteries. On characters that have unlocked Reactive Armor Catalysts, I use those instead of Hull Patch.

I used to be able to make decent EC selling superior crafted upgrades, now I can't because pheonix's are clearly better. But between all my character I have a little over 30, each one has 20th level in at least 3 different schools, so I could make more at a time, Haven't tried with the experimentals yet though. But, the R&D stuff isn't nowhere near as good as the rep stuff and stuff you get from lockboxes, except the exotic particle field exciter whether it's EPG or EPS

I'm a frigging idiot apparently. I cannot figure discord out at all so I can take advantage of buying the pink shields & ships to go with it. Can anyone enlighten me on how to go about getting into this giveaway? Is it a purchase like it originally was or is this a contest/raffle thing I have to sign up for? I've only been playing for about 3 weeks now. Playing on xbox which probably isn't helping. But I still find this system incredibly confusing. There is a LOT to this game. Reminds me of trying to play WOW last year after not playing since WOTLK. Had no idea what the hell was going on lol

There is accolades you get for reaching level 20.

This is just one of the aspects about MMOs I dislike is the extreme amount of time that you have to pour into in order to make decent progress. I get the idea behind it is to keep customers for years but sometimes alot of people don't have the time to dedicate to these types of grinds. I have plenty of time but I had a friend whom I've known since high school that I got into this game but his wife recently gave birth to their first kid. Now he barely has time for anything and he can't dedicate all the time in the world needed to get this stuff leveled up. I have other friends who were discouraged by this system and now I basically play STO alone because of it. I honestly wish these MMOs would stop forcing people to dedicate half their lives to some small tasks that in the end have a huge affect on the game.

I don't really know why I'm watching this. I never overlook this system. I'm kind of salty towards it, however. The crafting is only relevant once you have multiple alts with multiple schools and then roll a new character with a specific build in mind. Because, if you start this on your first, brand new Lieutenant - the crafting skill you require for something useful at that level takes twenty hours to attain. In those twenty hours, you're likely beyond the level you are abtle to craft for. So you end up levelling *way* faster than you're attaining R&D levels. So it's useless on your first character until waaay later. You *might* craft a battery here and there, but in the end - you're grinding for R&D xp,then you're saving up the materials [ which come pretty much automatically nowadays, granted] - and then STILL have the Dilithium cost. Son of a Mogh! I already worked for this. Just , for once, just let me hae the thing! Same goes for Rep gear. Getting something up to level 5 isn't hard, but it's a lot of clicking, on the same button over and over aas you watch your meters run out... And then when I can finally get something I want, I need to BUY it. Knock it off, game. I have multiple characters that can single-handedly build the whol Aegis set. But, the dil cost is annoying, so I buy it off the exchange if I want one.

At level 20 you literally cannot craft anything of lower quality than "very rare" purple. Of ANY level. To say, drop into your account bank! :) Btw, unable to accept your discord invite. :( It won't let me.

People who make these guides are all about "the builds im makeing" and here we are, us who have never played, who is looking for an explanation about the simplest of things about how the game even works, because the fucking game is just "click this, kill this, take this, repeat" and we have no fucking clue what we are finding, picking up, getting as rewards, what they are used for, what to sell, and what to keep...

@@MCStu Even when its on sale its still well over $100.00 for a ten year old game that you still have to pay $20-$30 bucks for a new ship. You do get 500 zen per month but at that rate it takes 6 months to buy a 3k zen ship. Not worth it.
