RD shall always remain a genius. He has his own class and we can not compare his talent with any other music director that's the reason RD has left a big void that head not been filled by anybody else. The freshness and soulfulness of music is scarce to find.

So far I can recall that the same tune of a Bengali duet song was used by TC RDB in the film "Hiralal Pannalal" perhaps released in 1980, picturised on Zeenat Aman and and veteran Prem Nath, sung by Hemant Kumar at the fag end of his musical career. It was the only song of Hemant Kumar under RDB.

Wow, thrilled to learn about these experiments from the genius R.D. Burman (Pancham da). And, thanks for sharing it with us.

There were so many innovative sounds created by Pancham, to mention a few: Rubbing of sandpaper to imitate a running steam engine in “Hoga tumse pyaara kaun” from ZAMAANEY KO DIKHAANA HAI. Dipping of the school gong into water after hitting it: In “Ye din toe aata hai ik din jawani mein” from MAHAAN etc. Only Pancham could’ve thought of using the actual sound of a firing gun in the other song from MAHAAN, “Pyaar mein dil pe maar de goli”. Another sound used by a Pancham in many background sequences of suspense or otherwise was the sound of a hurriedly pulled chain of a chain pulley assembly, probably inspiring the famous chanting for josh, “Chain pulley ki main pulley ki chain” in SATTE PE SATTA. Also the Pedal Matka used in many songs. That eerie music created by a rotating metal instrument with lots of steel rods of different lengths and thickness, welded on a wheel hub. This was played a few times Gabbar Singh appeared onscreen in SHOLAY. That made a huge impact when Gabbar comes to murder Thakur’s family in the scene when Thakur’s grandson (Master Alankaar ?) stares at Gabbar near the empty moving swing. There are just innumerable improvisations and sounds used by Pancham which perhaps many of us cannot fully account for in a long time. Thankyou for this thoughtful compilation. Truly appreciate your efforts and also the efforts of many viewers all of whom have the greatest respect for the wonderful Master RDB who didn’t live long enough like God’s favourite children. Me and a lot of my closest friends came together in life pulled together by the songs of Pancham that we love to this day and will do forever !! One more thing: Today I was reminded of “Tum kitney din baad miley” from THE GREAT GAMBLER.. in this song, after every line that Asha sings, there’s this beautiful sound, it seems like something was devised out of beads on a string and pulled out of a bottle in small stretches. What A Scenes About Making Music ❤️GOAT Legend Pancham Da ❤️🔥

The chord is not mistake but called accidental chord (like major/minor 7th chords). It is normal for musicians to add chords that fits in to the raga. Somebody (non musical guy) translated "accidental chord" as mistake chord. Regards

He has way more original material than he does of songs that were inspired from other songs. He has great taste in sounds and had a great ear. He knew how to make great music and put these little sounds in then to make us enjoy them even more.

Thanks for this. Though Pancham always traded in world music, his gems are in pure Hindustani, like Raina Beeti Jaye, Ghar Aja Gheer Ayee, Naam Gum Jayega, Jane Kya Bat Hai, Biti Na Bitayee Raina, Is Mod Se Jaate Hai, and many more. In a way he was a Pandit of Hindustani Sangeet along with all the rest in the world.

Bottle music is famous in mehbooba mehbooba, team member ke back peh drums jaise beat bajana, use of flanger in guitar in many songs like hum tumse mile from rocky. Use of arabian flutes in yama yama and other songs was fab. He was simply a maverick genius, who experiemented away from the actual rules of music. His classical pieces in amar prem, aandhi, and few more just showed how deep he was in classical too, but then again, both his parents, mom and dad were great classical musicians. Truly a Gift of God for us, and a Godfather of b.wood music!

Sachin Mukhedkar There were so many innovative sounds created by Pancham, to mention a few: Rubbing of sandpaper to imitate a running steam engine in “Hoga tumse pyaara kaun” from ZAMAANEY KO DIKHAANA HAI. Dipping of the school gong into water after hitting it: In “Ye din toe aata hai ik din jawani mein” from MAHAAN etc. Only Pancham could’ve thought of using the actual sound of a firing gun in the other song from MAHAAN, “Pyaar mein dil pe maar de goli”. Another sound used by a Pancham in many background sequences of suspense or otherwise was the sound of a hurriedly pulled chain of a chain pulley assembly, probably inspiring the famous chanting for josh, “Chain pulley ki main pulley ki chain” in SATTE PE SATTA. Also the Pedal Matka used in many songs. That eerie music created by a rotating metal instrument with lots of steel rods of different lengths and thickness, welded on a wheel hub. This was played a few times Gabbar Singh appeared onscreen in SHOLAY. That made a huge impact when Gabbar comes to murder Thakur’s family in the scene when Thakur’s grandson (Master Alankaar ?) stares at Gabbar near the empty moving swing. There are just innumerable improvisations and sounds used by Pancham which perhaps many of us cannot fully account for in a long time. Thankyou for this thoughtful compilation. Truly appreciate your efforts and also the efforts of many viewers all of whom have the greatest respect for the wonderful Master RDB who didn’t live long enough like God’s favourite children. Me and a lot of my closest friends came together in life pulled together by the songs of Pancham that we love to this day and will do forever !!

Once he was inspired by the drained sound of the starter motor if the battery went down. He used it in used it in Hum Kisis Se Kam Nahin in the song Yeh Ladka Hai Allah. But it was not the dying engine sound but played on the instruments. He was mad and magical.
