This in situ nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) probe takes the key advantage of NMR spectroscopy - the ability to noninvasively observe real-time chemical changes with high resolution - and carries it over to real, functional battery cells. The resulting analysis protocol is robust, reliable, high-throughput, informative and easy to use. The probe enables the chemical analysis of realistic battery cells by powerful high-field NMR methods for the first time, thus providing a new, powerful, real-time analysis capability to those studying power sources.
