"How long did that take you to learn. 1-2 weeks?" Something about that REALLY irritated me. I'm about ready to hunt this lady down and strangle her. I've been learning to draw for 6 years and I still don't think I'm good enough to start doing commissions. It's really difficult stuff. I'm pretty alright at it, but it's really something if I manage to make something that really looks awesome. It's a skill that takes an incredibly long time to grow. You don't only have to train your eye, but your hands as well. And sometimes your hands just don't do what you want them to do even if you've mastered techniques in your mind.

It’s very scary to showcase your art like that and it’s definitely something people should be paid for. I mean it must hurt to be told you suck at drawing when it’s terrifying to display it in the first place.

You know, if i ever do work up the courage to actually start selling commissions and someone gives me crap by saying "it's not that hard, i could do it", i want to have a sketchbook and a pencil on standby that i could easily whip out in front of them and say, "ok, then prove it" and just see who actually makes an attempt and who walks away. Artists work their asses off to get where they are and they never stop improving. If you can't compensate for their work, then don't waste their time.

I got basic drawing supplies this Spring. The first thing I learned is that a person must put in the hours, just like every other activity they will try. I literally have thousands of hours of crocheting under my belt and still only consider myself to be an advanced beginner. But I have made hundreds of hats for the homeless, so at least what I do has been useful.

Him switching between “entitled dumbass voice” and “decent human being voice” while reading the list of complaints had me confused.

Here's a wild thought: if you can't afford a professionally made cake... just make one yourself. You can buy all of the supplies you need for under $15, including the frosting. As a bonus, it'll probably be more appreciated that you took the time and effort to make it yourself than simply forking over money for a professional one. You don't have to be Gordon Ramsay to bake a cake or Vincent van Gogh to decorate one

I used to work at a grocery store bakery. 9/10 cakes were for birthdays. The only discounts/freebies were a free smash cake for a 1 y/o with purchase of a regular cake.

Ive been drawing my whole life and i still dont know what the fuck im doing in many ways haha. Art isnt a skull that can ever really be mastered in an odd way theres always more to learn and thing to improve. Its kinda amazing in that way and makes it so you never really stop improving. Sure you might stagnate but theres alway more to learn. Sorry for my little tangent i just really love my job so i kinda thought sense you all like art to maybe you might wanna hear my 2 cents. I sold art pieces before quarantine at my school. A girl that was in my class asked me multiple times to draw her, I always told her that if she had 50 pesos (2.50 dollars I think) I would do it, she laughed and then said my art was shit, and the cycle continued. One day we had to do an activity which, to my bad luck I forgot to bring tape, I asked everybody and no one had, I asked that girl and she told me “My mommy doesn’t let me borrow things!”. Idk if it was karma but she was an asshole

On returning from the Bahamas, as we debarked from the shop, I overheard a southern lady speaking with her family and she said, “it was beautiful but there were so many black people”. I almost fell over. The best part was that it wasn’t said with a malicious or prejudiced tone. She was actually incredulous about it. Shake my head.

As soon as the choosing beggar asked if it took 1-2 weeks to learn how to paint like that, I wanted to go off on her. I’m in art school, and while I’m not in the fine arts program, I know people who are, specifically people who do painting classes and the amount of work and time that goes into each piece is huge! If I’m not mistaken, you can’t get a studio space in painting class before first year studies, where one of your classes for a semester is based solely on colour theory, along with other two drawing classes, one that lets you have way more freedom of what you make and the other you are bound to a ruler for perspective! Never insult artists and their work, especially if they’ve attended school for it. We will destroy you with the amount of stuff we had to learn from first year alone regardless if we’re in fine arts or graphic design.

I work a paintball company in New Zealand and about a year ago a lady came in complaining to us about the weather (it was a rainy day) now we don't close if people have booked in to come and play no matter what day it is or what kind of day it is we will still show up and be ready for work, now those of you that have never played paintball, paintballs are built to biodegrade so when they get wet they swell up to a size that is too big for the gun and won't fit down the barrel, basically it'll jam the gun. The lady that complained to me said " you need to do something about this weather" I then replied "I can't change the weather" she then asked me "why not" me... being the smart arse that I am replied "my powers aren't working today" and walked away to get my manager to deal with her.

As a Spanish person myself who lives in Spain, I can confirm it's true, there are many Spanish people in Spain. Outrageous, I know. Also we make lots of Spanish food! Here! In Spain! Could you believe it? Shocking. We should be ashamed.

That person who thought it took the artist 1-2 weeks to learn made me sad. My sister is an artist and has been working on her craft since she was 5 years old. She's currently 23. It isn't easy!
